Kodename47 446 Report post Posted September 24, 2015 150 miles a day. Bigger the better and Diesel is an option.I did a search for cars with tax of less than £100, so these have been thrown up:VW PassatAudi A3 (Mrs has one, not sure I want 2 on the driveway)Ford Focus & Mondeo (Only the 1.6TDCi in that tax bracket, been told to avoid).Honda Insight/Civic IMAVolvoV50
smudge 1020 Report post Posted September 24, 2015 As on the *other* forum, my Mondeo ST TDCI was one of my favourite carsIt'll run forever if you look after it, comfy, nice to drive, easily 50mpg+ and looks good tooCan pick them up for peanuts these days and reliability is just as good as the
rob275 1817 Report post Posted September 25, 2015 I was going to suggest the A3 but as you have one i'd suggest a Focus.
Cal 3 Report post Posted September 25, 2015 I'd personally lower the budget from 5k and get an early 2000 e46 or VW TDI (ok the e46 had horrendous cooling problems)Buy a car that's already depreciated and if it breaks just buy another. rinse and repeat.I had a MK4 Golf TDI. (non PD version!!!)Had it for 3 years did about 160K worth of hard miles in it (i was young so i drove it above 4k rpm everywhere like a tit.)It retired it at 220Kish with original turbo, clutch and gearbox still in tact)!!!!Still have the the old girl, in the barnnot sure why.... Nicebiscuit 655 Report post Posted September 25, 2015 Saab 9-5. Cheap as chips. Wafty. Reliable. And lovely seats (get the heated leather ones)Or if you don't fancy that, a Volvo but it'll cost more. Can't beat a Swede for motorway munching. And don't worry too much about tax. Minor cost in the grand scheme of things...I'd choose more based on a brand you know can get reliably and cheaply serviced locally. So I'd go for Ford, Saab or Toyota but that's purely cause of who I'd trust locally! Ztox 230 Report post Posted September 25, 2015 (edited) +1 for Ford, I'd probably get a diesel Focus if it was me. *edit* "I'd probably get a diesel", wtf is happening to me?! Edited September 25, 2015 by Ztox
Tareim 343 Report post Posted September 25, 2015 I would be tempted by a petrol hybrid, I've done the diesel route and got that out of my system, diesel smells horrible and they don't sound great 2 chillismoke and Lauren reacted to this
Test Drives Unlimited 278 Report post Posted September 26, 2015 Before I bought the GT my other car as well as the R3 was a Honda Jazz Hybrid HX-T which I can highly recommend as it would do 600 miles to the tank and return 58+mpg Sent from my Archos 53 Platinum using Tapatalk

Nicebiscuit 655 Report post Posted October 10, 2015 I like the Jazz. It's a neat design. They should have crammed something pokier under the bonnet though. Would have made a great hot hatch as a type R...

Nicebiscuit 655 Report post Posted October 11, 2015 Love it! If you dig around on YouTube there's a rally spec Jazz as well, with fat arches and 2.0 mugen power. Also ace.
