Mark-in-Stoke 488 Report post Posted March 12, 2016 Well tonight went out for a drive and straight away noticed a knocking/banging metallic sound, had a look around and couldn't see anything, drove it over a slightly bumpy road and the noise was worse, any ideas what to try a look at and check just in case i've forgot something. The last time it was driven was this morning and it was silent.

Mark-in-Stoke 488 Report post Posted March 12, 2016 Rich it's more of a knock when going over lumps n bumps, heavy metallic knock, sounds like something on the suspension really, but worth a check anyway.
Keethos 842 Report post Posted March 12, 2016 Drop links, top mounts, the rotating discs to preload the spring on the struts.....Can't think of what else.... 1 Mark-in-Stoke reacted to this

rob275 1817 Report post Posted March 12, 2016 Few people have had this issue with loose top mounts, definitely worth a check 1 Mark-in-Stoke reacted to this
Mark-in-Stoke 488 Report post Posted March 12, 2016 Rob, this is a strange one! One minute it was OK next minute I had a Jamaican steel band in my car
Lauren 2259 Report post Posted March 13, 2016 Top mounts as Keith said, also the bolts for camber adjustment. I would say if it's making a right racket it must be prettty loose somewhere. Check torque on strut to hub bolts and all that stuff. Basically anywhere there is a bolt. 1 Mark-in-Stoke reacted to this

Mark-in-Stoke 488 Report post Posted March 13, 2016 All fixed now, I checked the top mounts first and everything seemed OK, the top nut was firm but when a socket went on it it moved quite freely, tightened this nut up and went for a drive, no more noise, if the top mounts didn't keep been mentioned I think I would of not rechecked it again. Thanks all 4 Lauren, Mike, Keethos and 1 other reacted to this
