MartinT 514 Report post Posted November 27, 2020 Has the formulation for Rain-X changed in recent years? I remember it was superb for treating the windscreen to make water just run off. Having bought a new bottle after many years, I cannot get it to stop smearing no matter how much I clean the glass and buff it afterwards. Something has changed! 1 Notaricer reacted to this
willclarke 50 Report post Posted November 28, 2020 I've noticed the same, and it smears with the windscreen wipers so bad it actually makes visibility worse, resorted to using it only on the sides and back window and more conventional cleaner on the front! I've gone out again today, applied some more and buffed the hell out of it. The next rain will tell whether it worked. Otherwise, I'll have to try to get it off. will300 812 Report post Posted November 29, 2020 For what it's worth, here's a couple of alternatives coatings from G-Techniq & Gyeon Firstly clean the glass with a good glass cleaners, ideally you want to use a glass polish like G-Techniq G4 Glass Polish: https://www.gtechniq.co.uk/shop/auto/glass-metal/g4-nanotech-glass-polish/ Coating - Quick Application: G-Techniq G5 Water Repellent for Glass: https://www.gtechniq.co.uk/shop/auto/glass-metal/g5-water-repellent-coating-for-glass-and-perspex/ Gyeon Quickview: https://gyeonquartz.com/product/quickview/ Coating - Advanced: G-Techniq G1 ClearVision: https://www.gtechniq.co.uk/shop/auto/glass-metal/g1-clearvision-smart-glass/ Gyeon View: https://gyeonquartz.com/product/view-2/ 1 MartinT reacted to this
Gregski 5 Report post Posted November 29, 2020 I will add my experience. Since I'm Polish and been to my country few times with gt86 and then BRZ, I use one of those https://www.alenatura.pl/pl/tanczace-kropelki-act-natural-czyste-szyby.html , last for 6 weeks of Scottish fall weather, and I have used it for years. It's 40 PLN so around 10 GBP, and I have 3 cars and all of them benefit from the bottle (250ml will last you for a year or two depending on the usage). Not saying its better or worse than g-techniq but just adding some alternatives. Usage is pretty simple: wash the windscreen with hot water and washing up liquid, dry it with a towel. Then apply the chemical on windscreen, use a soft cloth to make an even coverage and after 2 minutes - polish it to clear. rain runs away at 35 mph. 1 MartinT reacted to this
