barberjay 2 Report post Posted February 8, 2021 Hello all I have been lurking in the background for a little while and picked up my 86 back in september. I have always been a car enthusiast (mainly vw stuff) and then had quite a few years away from any car related social life after having bambino. So I decided it was high time to treat myself and I had been spying the 86 for years and was finally in a position to get one and it sure isnt disappointing. so I've had the car for about 5 months now and progress is a little slower than what I'd like but I've tinkered a little bit until we are allowed out of lockdown and I can start earning again. I'll post what bits I've done so far.
barberjay 2 Report post Posted February 8, 2021 So this was the car when I picked it up. 2013 pearl white TRD 49,000 on the clock full service history all the recalls had been carried out prior to my purchase.
barberjay 2 Report post Posted February 8, 2021 as you can see there was a couple of mods by the previous owner but nothing had been done performance wise just the vinyl and the rear spoiler. so I picked her up and it was lashing it down 🙃 so I waited till the shy uk sunshine reared its head and set to work getting those vinyls off the side before during (before getting to work removing left over adhesive and gunk) after all nice and clear looking 10 times cleaner I really wasnt a fan of the vinyl at all like the second it stopped raining it was off 😅 1 Stutopia reacted to this
barberjay 2 Report post Posted February 8, 2021 got hold of some black badges 👌 before during, once I'd debadged and cleaned it all up I ended up never fitting the black gt86 and toyota badge underneath the liscence plate but just popped the black emblem on instead. after

barberjay 2 Report post Posted February 8, 2021 brought the headlights back to life a little bit using some good old Colgate. before during after it's all pretty boring stuff at the moment but I promise it will get ever so slightly more interesting

barberjay 2 Report post Posted February 17, 2021 TRD wheels back from powdercoating, the temptation to go bronze was real but settled on satin black which is tonnes better than the diamond cut, konig hypergramms will be my bronze wheel of choice come summertime hopefully. Conscript 45 Report post Posted February 17, 2021 Did the Colgate on the headlights work long term? My drivers side light has the same milky look that yours had. I keep meaning to buy a restoration kit, but if forgotten about the toothpaste trick. What do you do, just polish it in with a cloth, allow to dry then buff off? Oddly, my passenger side is fine. Also, car looking great in general, big up the pearl white gang

Also, car looking great in general, big up the pearl white gang they still seem pretty good a few months afterwards. is it as good as a proper headlight restoration kit probably not but it's a damn sight cheaper and still makes them look a tonne better and yeah I just treated it like paint polish pop it on little circles round and round for quite a while letting the toothpaste very gently buff the lens then just clean it off 👌
