Club Events for the rest of 2019

Hope you all had a great summer and it was really good to see many of you at shows, track days and social events.😁 Just thinking what events we may want to do/ organise for the rest of the year. We have Fuel Coffee House meet tomorrow and Yakushi Show next weekend, but here are few more potential events to think of: Sunday, Sep 29th: Jap Show Finale at Santa Pod http://www.japshowfinale.co.uk/index.php?fbclid=IwAR00_SHI-kwCFC88Rz-a8RPVhc0Vu_FJVUBs32uFqJbZ_jxQK9KiTaMxGYk Sunday, Oct 6th: TRAX at Silverstone http://www.traxshows.co.uk/trax-silverstone-home (I know many people don't like TRAX 🙄) Sunday, Oct 6th: German vs Jap Bfast Meet at Ockham Bites Saturday, Oct 12th: Action Day Finale at Castle Combe https://castlecombecircuit.co.uk/shows/action-day-finale (we don't usually have many people interested in Castle Combe events) I am also doing track days at Thruxton on Monday Sep 30th and Silverstone on Saturday Nov 16th if anyone would like to join (both with Opentrack) Club track day at Bedford last year was popular, we can do it again, good for those who want to try track days for the 1st time (although check your noise level). May be wet (and cold) but its getting reasonably inexpensive. Would be great to hear wishes and suggestions!😎

Update 27/08/19 - Bedford Trackday Another trackday at Bedford, this was pretty much the same as the one on the 22nd July, with 30°c heat. I was trying to find a good tyre pressure balance to limit the amount of sliding after an extended period. It felt like I only really got one good sessions at about 3:30 in the afternoon, when everyone had left and the track was basically empty (driving standards were abit hit and miss during the day). Still I was impressed with how the tyres held up and the amount of grip they provide. I was concerned when looking for a more track focused tyre that it might over tyre the car, for my level of driving. However after a couple of days I'm now happy with the balance and control provided by the tyre. It's definitely a good purchase for someone looking for a dual duty tyre with a more track focused bias. In general driving they a comfortable, quiet and I've had no issues driving in the rain with them. Unfortunately the day wasn't completely without issue, when going for fuel during the lunch break I noticed the car sounded alot louder than normal, on returning back to the circuit and checking the car over I found that the exhaust had cracked and was blowing quite badly 😟 knowing that I still had the afternoon and another trackday two days later, I decided to just carry on (more later). Here's a couple of photo's from the trackday: (I didn't kill the cone, honest)

Update - 22/07/19 - Bedford Autodrome testing the AD08RS I finally got to test out the all new Yokohama AD08RS tyres at Bedford Autodrome, I fitted them to the car a week before the trackday. They are noticeably more grippy than the Michelin PS4 and surprising a lot quiter. Also the car feels alot lighter, this however could be down the lighter 949 Racing wheels as it's been a while since I last used them. On track the tyres have lots of grip (you can hear me LOL at the grip in the video) with a good balance and durability seems very good considering the tempature was a relatively hot 30°c. They did start to slide a bit after about 5 laps, which meant coming in to the pits and lowing the tire pressues, which helped. I was running them at 30psi hot. Here's a couple of pit lane photo's and a onboard video:

I was speaking to a trader a couple of weeks ago about a number of things, including supercharging. He then informed me that Cosworth only have 8 supercharger kits left available in the UK. When I go FI it'll most likely be the Harrop (there are a number of reasons why I prefer it over the Cosworth), for those that are interested your are looking at just under £6k fully fitted and mapped (including new engine oil) for the Harrop from Abbey.

Its a proportional thing. The Cosworth Kit runs +15C over ambient on track. The cooling system is specified for 380hp, hence being so low iat. The smaller pulley adds 0.1bar boost, raising it to 0.6Bar of boost. ~20hp. Its so small that you are hard pressed to see the difference in intake temps. Running 380hp would mean 1bar boost and +30C intake temps, roughly doubling them over the normal stage 2 setup. On the whine, since adding the smaller pulley mine has a subtle whine. With the normal pulley that comes with the kit, it wasn't noticeable for me even with stock exhaust. The Edlebrock and Harrop spin slower and unlikely to whine. On the issue of rods. Even the few rods the guys at Cosworth tested would work at cylinder pressures that would be approaching 350hp, but then they used their data from OEMs to set the 280hp point to allow for manufacturing tolerance. In essence if you tested a large number of rods from multiple batches, you would get a normal distribution around the mean strength. The way you set the power, is such that the probability of one failing is within acceptable limits. e.g. had they set it at 320hp, they might have found 1 in 10 cars eventually would fail. Unacceptable and dial it back until the probability of failure is lower. On top of that, if they ran the car at the max pressure the rods could take and somehow it develops knock bye bye rods. So setting it at 280hp gives headroom taking into account all the variables in manufacture and possible failure modes when installing or tuning the kit. This is why OEMs make stock rods that a typically capable of much more than stock power... typically. A dodgy Friday afternoon batch with a massive crack inside might not handle 190hp... So yes you can take a gamble and run 350hp but there are plenty of blown FA20s on less power than that on the ft86club.
