For anyone thats interested thought i'd update this, Went to turbomonkeys in Boston, Lincs (on will300's recommendation). They couldn't replicate the issue (always the way when you show someone isnt it!) - so i agreed they change the oil which came out a grey colour and replaced a gasket which was likely leaking. Box felt better after this running around back roads.. But then a week or so later after sitting on the motorway for about 30mins in 6th on the way to see Mike @ TD for a super-res install, coming off the slip road and crunch, same thing! Felt like it half came out of gear, stuck somewhere between neutral and 5th/6th, grinding/gear spinning noise to match. Struggled to get into neutral as was coasting up to the stop line. Once into neutral, it felt like there was no springs on the box so the lever would just sit wherever i left it! Fished around for 1st gear and pulled up to let Mike @ TD know i wasn't going to make it. After a few minutes regained some positive feel to the level and limped home on the backroads using gears 1-5. So back at Turbo Monkeys, again couldn't replicate the issue (fenny single carriageway roads over there!) but thought it sounded like the gearbox was overheating when on longer trips in 6th. They had a replacement gearbox there (the reason i went to them in the first place), so they went ahead and swapped the box over from a 2016 car, including replacing the rear prop shaft seal too. Needless to say the replacement is absolutely fine, and whilst they were at it got rid of the hideous front numberplate brick so looks better now too! Would definitely recommend turbomonkeys. Their first attempt to fix was under my instruction and basically didnt want to screw me over recommending a new box if i didnt need it right away (we still dont know what the issue was with my last box - they're going to strip it down eventually). They work on a lot of our cars and subarus. I'm sure you've seen their 1uz v8 swaps, very impressive! If i get an update from them on what the issue was i'll post it up on here Cheers for all your inputs

Follow-up! Tapered bolts are for the injector ecu, standard bolts for coils, one short bolt for the fuel rail cover. One of my coil pack cables wasn't quite clicked in it seems, as when I tweaked it, it clicked. Cleared the code on the ecu and the car got back into the mood. Coil C is rear most on the UK driver's side.

I don't know about the stock cat but with a sports cat mine is making 270hp with TD Turbo Stage 1. Had tried the stock cat in place of the sports cat and the car is quieter and more environmentally friendly but so sluggish so I have put the sports cat back in place.

If I'd could put my two pence in. Don't seek out the factory Toyota sat nav as previously mentioned, it's awful. I spent around £500 to install a high quality Sony 7inch touchscreen with android auto/apple car play as well as Bluetooth. This meant I had much better sound quality, great radio reception as well as Dab. Once you plug your phone in you have the best voice control, navigation and music options available at the touch of a button. Also if you have something like this installed you can have a very nice subtle reversing camera installed which saves drilling holes in the bumper for parking sensors and makes reversing far less of a guessing game. As with any car a very well documented service history is a must have.

Seriously, the integral satnav is at best quirky and offers confusing instructions. It also zooms in very close on big roundabouts so you can't tell which exit you need at a glance. It also costs a small fortune to refresh the maps, and the DIY process is hilariously convoluted. If there are roadworks or heavy traffic on your route it will prompt you every five minutes whether you want to change route, but can't offer much insight as to what the redirect will do. It also likes to inform you of heavy traffic just after you've passed the last possible escape. Many of these criticism can be levelled at Garmin devices too, but at least those cost less than a map update. All these things are overshadowed by the capabilities of Google Maps. Basically, buy the right car, not the one with satnav.

Just an update the cars is currently undergoing its recall work. Toyota John Roe currently doing the work. Feeling happy and well looked after with work so far, been in to the workshop to see it's progress today. This is their 10th car they've done the recall on. Have opted to replace the Clutch / Spark Plugs and Clutch release bearings whilst the engine is out.
