Getting rid of the 86 this week so off comes the cat back. Been on the car since July (i think, have the reciept from Fensport I need to dig out, fitted it that day). Done about 4k miles and sounds great. Looking to get it gone quite quickly so selling for £300 COLLECTION ONLY from Derby. Any questions ask away.

Morning campers! In need of replacing the brakes all round on my 86. Not going to be tracking it but do like to give it some beans on country roads and get the brakes up to temperature. I've seen no issues with the factory brakes, so curious if anyone has a full set they're looking to get gone, or any other brake kits! Not looking to break the bank and if anyone has any particular reccommendations of any brake kits on the wild old internet please Holla. thanks, Alex

Another stupid question from me. Just getting round to fitting some BC racing coilovers and they have the metal top mounts on. Do you keep them on or swap for the rubber ones off the OE suspension? Alex

Eibach Sportlines, Alpine W203ri, OEM Springs & Exhaust.

Good evening all, I'm having a good clear out of the garage, so I have a few things for sale below (also a bike if anyone's into road riding!) I've recently swapped over to Coilovers so I have a set of Eibach Sportlines springs up for grabs, these are a 35mm drop and come with the bump stops and covers. Had them on the car before my Coilovers but unsure of use before. The two springs are still on the shocks as I don't have the appropriate tools to take these off. (Shocks unfortunately are cream crackered) Looking for £100 for these springs. Next I have a set of standard OEM springs of which I replaced for the Eibachs (before the coilovers..), these have done about 30k miles. No idea how much these are worth, and I know it's not good to have no price but if someone fancies them, drop me a message and I'm sure you're offer will suffice Here is a standard exhaust from the catback. Replaced mine with a Miltek cat back and this has done about 30k miles, condition is pretty good and there's no dints or pings? On the exhaust tips. Again no idea on price so drop me a message and we'll work summit out. And finally I haven an Alpine W203ri Double Din stereo which I had fitted in my Fabia before the 86. It comes with the iphone interface cable and this works for an iphon looking form with a lightning adaptor. Looking for £40. I am located in Derby, would preferably like items collected.. Thanks, Alex. -
All sorted now. Top mounts all mounted correctly, just span off the bottom section and swapped them over. appreciate all the help from everyone, so thankyou for that. Now for another question! Now that I have these coulovers, so I need camber bolts or not?
-
Feel for you nige! These coilies are rather good tbh.. But then I've never used the Ohlins ones so wouldn't know! Can someone else who has the BC Racing coilies do me a favour? Put your car on full LEFT lock, and take a picture of the RIGHT side suspension, just like I have below. See if it matches up with mine. I can't find fitting instructions anywhere. I appreciate the strut tops have left and right letters on them, however if I was to put the strut with the R sticker on top of it on right hand side of the car, the drop link would not fit on, nor would the brake hose bolt into it. If anyone could take a picture like mine of the Right hand wheel arch it would be much appreciated. Can of beer if I ever see you at a meet! I spoke to fensport who said that my logic makes sense.. But you guys have them different so have rather confused me! If anyone fancies posting a picture of their top mounts installed too that would be ace

Anyone else have an idea? As mentioned I've just copied the way the OE struts were..
-
Forgive me for being stupid! Had a good search of the forum and can't seem to find my answer. I've got a set of Eibach Pro springs to pop on (35mm drop) and I've seen a few people mention camber bolts and rear subframe bush inserts. Can some possibly explain in ley mans terms what exactly it does, what is needed, necessary, what and where from?! Thanks!
-
I did try putting them the other way round, but the hole for the drop link was on the other side of the strut. So I thought that can't be right. So for example if I'm sat in the wheel arch of the RIGHT hand side, the drop link hole is on the left of the OE strut, with the brake hose bolted on the right. I've put the Coilie back in that mirrors this. If I was to put it on the other way, the brake hose won't reach to bolt into the strut.. I think someone's just put the top mounts on wrong? And I need to twist them round to get them to suit?

Update! Turns out when my friend used the air gun on the struts we destroyed the shock absorber seals! Yayyyu! Knocking was purely down to no absorption on the shocks at all. Wondered why it was so bumpy. Very good springs but would reccomend Using a spanner and Allen key rather than air gun! Gone down the coilover route now. And no knocks! Hurrah. Tracking to be done my Fensport some day, with camber bolts and rear camber bushes. S18, don't wanna sound negative but have a quick look at the bottom of your shocks. If it's wet maybe you have the same problem. I hope for your wallets sake you don't!
-
I'll get that sorted shortly. I can easily fit things like this, but it's things like which direction do the front top mounts sit. I've used logic.. I think. The struts have letters on, L for left and R for right. Now I think I'm right in assuming these just stand for which way to face the top mount rather than which side of the car to fit the strut. This is my left hand (near side) strut with the R I assume means to point that part to the right?

I'd just like to say a massive thank you to Chis at Tarmac sportz. Unfortunately the s**t hit the fan today as I blew all four shock absorbers. On the hunt for some coilovers pretty sharpish. And Chris on his day off agrees to sort me out a set at a bargain price. The set was even for him to use himself! But he kindly passed them onto me. Highly recommend Tarmac Sports to anyone, anything you need head to them and he'll go above and beyond to help you. All fitted now Chris, although I've now found out why the rears had different springs. Looks like I'm whipping them back out one day soon to use my rubber top mounts in the rear instead of the metal ones! Again, massive thank you. Alex. (One happy chappy)
-
Agh thanks Steve.. Wish I'd read your comment before I put them on.. I had the tapered spring and was like this is too big for the mount, so shoved the metal too mount on the rears. Drove it with no issues.. Will probably be whipping them off again on Wednesday then!

It's wen I go over bumps in the road. quite frequent noise. Sounds like the spring is rebounding and knocking. Jacked it up last night on my drive to try and whip the strut out and check it all, couldn't manage it on my own. Should be getting it on a ramp at the weekend to whip it out properly and check. Took a video on my phone last night with it jacked up and me pushing the wheel up, can hear a noise, will try and get it uploaded.
-
Next query.. Springs are all fitted, everything is properly tight as I made sure to triple check, especially top mount bolts. Did not use an air gun on them. All back together and there is a loud knock from the rear left, sounds like it's banging when the spring rebounds after being compressed. Could the top mount affect this, by being on backwards for example? Had to twist it about 45 degrees to get it to sit in the holes. Reckon it could be that? Looks like I'm whipping that corner out again!
-
Think I'm gonna do the same Varelco. Got the opportunity to get it on a ramp today as well as an extensive set of tools, including posh spring compressors . Then get the Camber Bolts ordered and slap them on the car in a week or so. Will see how the rear is and how it feels. Then get the alignment done. Anyone see any major safety issues with doing this?
-
Perfect. Will probably get the bolts as well as the rear bushes just to be safe.
-
This is why it's so confusing! Mixed messages :L What would the consequences be of dropping it without them, and fitting them at a later date? (Other than already being in the wheel well whilst fitting them) And then when fitted, tracking to be done again to be sure?
-
So Lauren, Just to be clear, you'd say to get them both if lowering?
