Recipe for successful toyota halo sportscar: gt86 + FI 4-pot + popup headlights. Start poster press
-
In general i had thrown in links to TSB description and pdf file about it mostly just for listing of part numbers involved, IF it bothers enough to shell out money for parts and new windows, to not scratch with old guides new windows too.
-
They may aswell write it off as wear & tear item. Still, the point is - warranty had run out. I highly doubt they'll change guides and felt parts AND replace with new, unscratched, windows for free now. But if it will come from my own pocket .. i chose to live with that. Seems not that uncommon fault for framless window door cars in general. Friend that had many subbies, says - it's "norm" :D. A bit annoying, especially on sunny days, but i'm not willing to buy new windows.
-
I was denied (@LV), when i brought those window scratches up after warranty ended. BTW, if it may come handy: TSB S-SB-0009-14 #1 #2 #3

Thanks for video. And yes, now i'm completely sure that i don't like it.

I usually got opposite experience, with subaru parts dept. almost always insisting on VIN number prior starting any search in their part systems then toyota/scion, and in most cases finding out corresponding subaru analogue only from PNs mentioned in forums at best. Maybe try finding out corresponding PN eg. here, and then ask them availability/pricing for specific parts/assemblies?
-
Probably what i don't like most is "front bulbs" above front wheels. In rear it's viper & trv like ok-ish, but looks fat/swelled in front. (judging by these pics only, maybe in reality it will be better)
-
Weird, i hadn't felt that big of a difference from brace .. though i don't have braided brake lines, still stock ones. BTW, among features from BBKs worth looking for is also how common pad shape is used on particular one. That may make wearables cheaper and also make available pad selection/choice way wider, fitting everybody's own preferences and usage patterns.
-
IIRC there was good deal on cossworth SC kits. Should work also with stock header with stock primary cat. Maybe contact Matt@Cossy.

It's not purely UEL's feature. While yes, most UELs have good mid-torque and most ELs for twins keep torque-dip there .. but imho it's more attributable to runner lengths. After all, there are long tube 4-2-1 Ace EL headers, that eliminate dip and provide loads of extra torque mid rpms. Price and need to run well tailored just to them ecu tune might be turn-off for some though.

Lauren: vsc shouldn't be taken together with drifting. vsc was in context as that's 99% of mode i'm daily driving wiith on public roads or tracks i'm not familiiar with for first introductory times/laps when wet/rain. But as it's for me most used mileage-wise mode, i'd happy to be changed/iimproved like in MY2017 from how owners of those describe. Drifting (as i'm penny pincher) i'm doing only on ice tracks & in pedal dance of course (though am considering switching off abs fuse too). But still, it was so much easier in completely stock bmw of collegue, that still had loads of extra angle for countersteering. Big angles, flooring with ease .. while on my gt86 i had to baby throttle and steering to enter drifts only with shallow angle & little turning momentum .. slight killjoy i'd say. Clutchout saved only 3/4th of spinouts or sliding inside (due car keeping turning with front wheels countersteered to lock, with front wheels ending up pointing inside). Hence my wish for more steering angle.

You can try route i went for. - for lightness to go for forged wheels, but for price to be reasonable, - buy used ones. That may limit width/offset choices and maybe minor cosmetic defects though. Still, now i have 6.2kg taneisya T6 17x7.5 for summer for 350e set, and for winter 5.#kg ssr type-c 16x7 for 400e set. Cheaper then good cast wheels set if bought new.

I'm totally happy with mine too. Though possibly because previous car had 1/3rd of power, was much slower and FWD, lol Then again, though not frequently and/or for long, i had drives in other, more powerful, cars, eg. WRX or Volvo S60. Yes, they had that push-in-seats acceleration .. but i felt delight when i sit back in mine. No more compromised ergonomics, no more mushy syrupy gear switches, much sharper steering, much better handling .. and yes, skids aswell My current biggest non-likes in my gt86 are two. Engaging too soon and in too abrupt way VSC sport (improved for those with MY2017 track mode) and too shallow max steering angle (much harder to drift vs cars with higher steering angle still having more to countersteer till lock). Haven't yet heard, if it's possible to retrofit former, but am starting exploring available options for later. Happy about anything else in these cars. Including it's "weak/dull/torque-dipped" engine

No no. Except injection system there are other major, LOL, differences and contributions. - Different bumpers & audio HU BTW, i'm not that sure it's worth to belittle injection system's importance. Imho lot of FA20D specific power output, high redline, good (for NA torque) while still passing strictest emission regs might be attributed to it too. Hard to compare apples to oranges with other Subaru engines like FB20(B|D|X) with own Subaru injection sys, but they mostly seem to have 40-50 less ponies & lower redline. In general, in my eyes due most manufacturers replacing for easier emission pass their NA lineup with smaller displacement+turbo in all of their cars, including cheapest range, that extra FI torque everywhere spoiled those that cry twins egines being underpowered and twins themselves as slow. By rowing few gears down i can accelerate fast enough for my wishes to merge/accelerate/overtake, on track. Not that long ago it's 0-60 times were only for rather expensive cars. We just got spoiled and rised unreasonably high bar of "new norm"/expectations. Even while not wiilling to pay extra to have it pushed up to those expectations. I'm sure, that sold numbers of new supra will be way less then those of twins. It has all those goodies of powerful turbo engine, better more upmarket interior and such. And price way less people are willing to pay. I can only thank toyobaru for releasing car that i both like AND can afford.
-
In my eyes even 16 (#1 #2 #3 #4) & 15" (#1 #2 #3) wheels look well on these cars. You just have to know how to cook 'em I see no need to pay for 18", unless it's to clear some specific BBK, and have heavier wheels, more expensive tires, less road comfort.
-
Honda were getting 100bhp/1lr 20 years ago, when emission requirements were way way way more lax. It was getting harder and harder to keep on and even they, in my eyes best NA inline-4 makers, gave up. Current type-R has forced induction - does it says something to you? High efficiency NA engines becoming thing of past (excluding poster super cars mere mortals won't own) and in that light i have high respect for toyobaru for FA20.
-
From that thread it didn't seemed like worth all the hassle / work / skills required though.
-
BTW, not the case of freezing together due winter after some washing? If you start moving by hand, it won't later start again to properly fold-unfold by itself once ice between parts is broken? (happened to me two weeks ago)

Is remapping nessecary if installing uel header?
Church replied to Curtthrasher01's topic in Modifications
Makes sense. Primary cat in header is in such bad to performance place close to cylinders exactly so it can heat up to working temps sooner, thus improving cold start emissions. -
Recalling one of old topgear reviews for amg merc. Where traction light was lit permanently, even driving on dry tarmac. But all that POWEEEER, and probably all that driving fun on such cars are gained at licence-schredding speeds :).

Default - no bluetooth unless 1600£?! I may dislike T&G for toyota sibling, but seems that i should be happy with it coming stock in all trims. Does default brz unit at least support mp3 off usb?
-
Friend of mine has grey AT. Hmm, it might be very subjective thing, and of course state/mileage should be prioritized, but given choice i'd prefer other colors. Black, white, orange, red, or in case of BRZ - also blue. Grey seems a bit too bland.
-
IIRC 2015 still should have very same headunits as older ones. Not familiar how it's with BRZ, but wasn't headunit among those things that was changed for refresh, MY2017 (including now on-steering-wheel controls)?
-
Firmware of T&G 1st gen is rather limited just like headunit itself. Probably might play only mp3, and may fail with something like aac/flash (i'm guessing). Not that difficult to reencode though. Maybe T&G 2 for MY2017 have wider supported format list, but i wouldn't expect much from 1st gen T&G, already more then 5 years old.

OE audio & satnav solutions almost for all vendors always lag a lot in features and support. It needs to be certified by many standards and adhere many obscure requirements, it often lasts alongside life of many car models for 5+ years, so no wonder that most OE solutions are prehistoric and only on very latest models with especially marketed for new multimedia features they are not prehistoric, but just dated. Only aftermarket car audio vendors more or less keep up with generic consumer electronic progress. I'd say, we are lucky to not have tape recorders in our cars :). As for music .. my own choice on OE headunits of these cars would be using usb flash with mp3. Flashdrives are hell of a cheap for 32-64-128G sizes and can fit most music from average music collections many have. Of course, there also are some limitations, as in what filesystem type needs to be used, specific dir structure to ease selection/navigation or having mp3 tags entered for all files (depending if having satnav module or not, as IIRC it changed also mp3 playback firmware bit), but overall by simplicity and ease of use my choice would be mp3 off usb.
