Steering wheel/seat adjustment question
JamesP1991 replied to S18 RSG's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
Cheers Jeff, was waiting on someone to confirm what it was -
I seem to be the only one happy with a 250hp figure from a larger displacment tuned N/A engine haha! With it tuned I'd also like to see the blasted thing Rev to around 8.5k with a nice linear curve, unlike the stock motor that drops like a stone after 7k

Wow that is certainly very squat in its stance now

Steering wheel/seat adjustment question
JamesP1991 replied to S18 RSG's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
Hi buddy, So If I get this right, you feel like you are towering over the wheel too much? I would suggest pulling the wheel down a bit, and then pushing it back to its furthest setting away from you.. Then if you set the seat so that you are comfortable and low enough so that your knees clear the bottom of the wheel, it might be a bit better? I like to have the wheel up close to me quite low, with the seat on the ground. In regards to the funny object, does it look like this? (Excuse the instagram photo) If so, all cars have them and I think it must be something to do with the alarm system maybe? -
Will be watching this thread with intent Mark. Am staying N/A and want to stretch out the motor so will wait to see what other things you get up to. Currently have all the bolt ons you can physically do, so am now at that crossroads on deciding what to do next!

I'm sure they'll be plenty of food options there.. Last time I went was last year, is parking there free?
-
Do a bit of scouting on Google Maps Rob and let us know where is roughly half way between everyone... Once we nail down a location we can start looking for a nice place for food!

Its a terrible system and I also found out that the money in your account has a limited shelf life.. So if you top up £10 but don't use the crossing within the allotted time length, say 3-4 months, they automatically take ALL the money in your account and it resets to zero?!
-
Im up for a social our way! I will have plenty of new bits on the car to test over a longish journey too
-
Same with the Dartford crossing going online, and they paid that bridge off years ago!

Buy an old beat up Transit and do an engine conversion Nige.. You know you want to

Heard the news on the radio this morning, these poor old guys who don't have a smartphone or a PC are screwed

For the one day every 2 years or so that it does snow hard, is it really worth the expense of a set of winter tyres? I can imagine if you are living in a place like Norway or Sweden etc, but in the UK I can't actually remember the last time we had a nasty frost and heavy snow... we certainly didn't last winter! But as Mike says, keep the Primacys on and have a bit more fun on that 1 day it does, or if you don't trust yourself leave the car at home and use it the next day

So had its obligatory 2nd year service today, even though the cars only done 17k miles. Due to the confusion of originally charging me £179 (they thought it was a 1st year) and then correcting them on the day, they reduced the price of a full service from £299 to £249. Passed through with no issues and they even cleaned it for me afterwards, not that there was much to to as I did it only 1 week ago. The service guys at the garage loved the sound of the car though. They said they don't see many modified 86's in my area, so having a fully catless UEL setup turn up cheered them up for the day Going to see if I can get my MCB fitted this afternoon now! Thought id take a quick picture before it got attacked by the blossom tree again anyway!

Force Feedback steering wheels for Project Cars
JamesP1991 replied to keelerad's topic in Non GT86/BRZ General Chat
Get Dirt Rally on Steam or Assetto Corsa, much better games which are far more realistic, and a Logitech G25 or G27 as they are cheap as chips now in terms of steering wheels and are awesome quality. My G25 is now 3 years old and is still working fine, plus the FFB in them or the G27 is very good. I've played Project cars since 2012 as I paid to have early access from WMD when it was in alpha and beta development phases on the PC. You'd get a new build of the game each week with updates up until the release date which was obviously a few weeks ago now. Comparing it to Assetto Corsa, If you prefer realism over content go for AC, but that is still being developed and updated. I downloaded Dirt Rally the other day and I can truly say that it is awesome. It's a real hardcore simulator unlike the others in the Dirt series and is still getting developed. Group B cars, Group A, stuff from the 60's and 70's all with a realistic physics engine -
Thank you Matt! Well I tried to make it unique when it came to the aftermarket parts used, instead of going down the same route as others, just to give it a bit of individuality. I have emailed this week a company in the US that specialises in FA20 tuning, so will see what they can offer and for what price. They currently run a 13:5:1 N/A race spec FA20 with all goodies inside which revs to over 9000rpm for time attack so I am intrigued to see how they can help. If they can ship a more reasonable N/A package over to the UK which doesn't involve sending the block over to them that would be a massive plus. All the FI guys have got so much choice out there for reliable big power, whereas us N/A guys either have to wait it out or be a bit imaginative, so let's see what options they can provide

DAF Turbo Twin - Craziest Racing Machine Ever?
JamesP1991 replied to JamesP1991's topic in Non GT86/BRZ General Chat
Can you imagine Ari Vatanen, 1981 WRC Champion, in his specialised 405 T16 600hp monster, seeing just a mountain of dust getting closer and closer in his rear view mirror, only to turn to his left and see some 11 ton truck powering past him at over 150mph. I would have just pulled over and cried at the realisation that I was getting outpaced by a bloody truck! It's a shame that the sister truck had a big 100mph crash over a dune, and due to a fatality DAF withdrew from the event with immediate effect. I think the other one was actually in the overall lead at that point too. The sound of 2400hp powering past your puny little car must have been a sight to behold! -
DAF Turbo Twin - Craziest Racing Machine Ever?
JamesP1991 posted a topic in Non GT86/BRZ General Chat
Just thought I would share this little gem here: Skip to 2 minutes 40 seconds to see how incredible this thing is, keeping up with a Dakar spec 405 T16 (same thing that raced at Pikes Peak). Also accompanying is a Depeche Mode soundtrack The truck in numbers: 8,5 seconds 0/60 150mph top speed on sand. 10.5 tons. Lightweight Space frame chassis. Two 11.6-liter diesel engines, each fed by three turbochargers, producing 1,200 horsepower and a space-time-ripping 3,466 lb-ft of torque. EACH. That's 2,400 hp and near-as-dirt 7,000 lb-ft. Post your craziest racing machines below and we might be able to create a pretty kick ass list? -

FOR SALE - Sprintex 210 Supercharger
JamesP1991 replied to smudge's topic in For Sale GT86 / BRZ Parts
So you are taking the plunge then! I bet you have had that 335 video on repeat for the past 2 weeks haha! -
Thanks for the compliment Matt! I am surprised you went through the suffering of reading all 8 pages! I have tried to be as informative and detailed as possible when it comes to the decisions I have made with the car. Once the FD and pulleys are fitted I will do an onboard video to show how different the car feels with the aggressive ratios and lightweight pulleys/flywheel working together. I am expecting it to feel much more eager and aggressive which is what my aim for the car was, especially as FI is not the route I want to take. Since fitting the TEIN springs last year I have nothing but praise for them. I spoke to Dave at Fensport when my car went in for work and he said they hold up so much better than the Eibach's based on feedback from customers. It can get a bit "crashy" on really bumpy roads, but that is because I have the stock shocks inside still. With the 25mm drop and the slightly stiffer spring rate, the car is definitely a lot more "pointy" on turn in. Since putting on the front strut bar as well it has given me so much more confidence. I feel like I can place the car better and therefore be more aggressive with the front end. But on daily trips, ride comfort is still great and the next step will be to buy adjustable Bilstein or Koni shocks and put them inside the TEIN springs. That way I will have essentially the same set up as those on coilovers but just without the ride height control. But for me I don't mind as I find a 25mm drop is enough to improve the look and handling of the car, but also I then do not have to worry about those obstacles on the road like speed humps etc. In regards to the pulleys, thanks for the link. I already knew about that thread, it is why I voiced my concerns about they keyway and doing the job myself. When the kit arrives let's see how confident I am feeling, but I reckon I'll just send it with the FD to the garage to get done together.
-
Yeah that was me when I was tempted to switch Keeping it now for the time being though! James (Tweedbean) speak to Chris at Tarmac about the Borla UEL as well, that is where both me and Smudge got ours from. He should still be able to source them for you
-
Nope I'm sticking UEL at the moment, I'll upgrade when I do the engine internals/cams and buy the ACE manifold in 1 hit, got plenty of other bits to install first yet haha!
-
Yeah a gun would make the job so much easier, but taking off the whole front end will be a major pain in the ass! I'll take my chances with the bar, all about leverage haha!
