    Cosworth GT86 article on Pistonheads

Perhaps I didn't mean to be so harsh with my assessment, but the point still stands. I could understand if Cosworth designed and then hand built/welded the entire exhaust system themselves including the 4-2-1 manifold and collectors but they didn't, and instead chose a company to produce it for them. Whilst Nameless do not sell the Cossie parts on their store, I would bet my car on their system being hugely similar. This is where the issue is for me. Over in the states you have the likes of JDL and PTuning hand building and welding incredible looking exhaust systems, which produce amazing number on the dyno, for a reasonable cost, why can't Cosworth follow the same pricing structure? Whilst the charger is good value for money, and as you say good for 380hp it is an appealing proposition. However I am guessing to get that 380hp they recommend the Cosworth internals to go with the kit? Seeing as we are already at 10K for the kit, can you imagine how much extra you will have to pay to forge the engine with their parts too? As I say, great products and awesome quality, but when you have alternatives on the market that are of the same quality but cheaper, what would make you choose them? Especially for people like me who are on a tighter budget with aftermarket parts.

    Help me decide

Due to it being a high compression engine, and to reduce knocking as much as possible at least 98 RON is considered the best for a standard car. Obviously you can put standard 95 RON in, but you will have less power and knocking will be greatly increased

    Help me decide

I would get Tilly's TRD for just under £20k I think it is? Or go for option 2 the non TRD car, and then pump the £7k's you saved into aftermarket parts for it. Can make the car something unique to you then

    Cosworth GT86 article on Pistonheads

With Cosworth parts for this car all you are doing is paying for the badge snobbery... nothing more. It is great quality but just too expensive. Their exhaust system is just a rebranded Nameless Performance system. You could get the identical system from Nameless themselves over in the USA and save big chunks of money - it just doesn't make sense to me. The Supercharger does seem good value for money, but that seems to be the only thing priced properly in their collection. Everything else there just seems to be an unnecessary premium on it. As Rob said, £7300 excluding VAT and fitting for a Supercharger kit, basic panel filter and exhaust system. With everything all in you are looking at over £10k overall! With that kind of money you could buy FBM's stage 2 turbo kit (£4400) twice over which pushes close to 350-400hp on low boost on stock internals! Madness

    My Silver Project 86

Yeah that's fine with me Lauren, it still makes the total cost considerably less than if I had bought it over here in the UK so I don't mind

    My Silver Project 86

Received an email from Japan Parts this morning, my 4.55 final drive and MSB will be here on the 1st June! Can't wait and now I have the headache of working out how I am going to get the FD fitted I also have some BIG secret plans for the car in store just after Summer has finished, so it is all systems go

    Borla UEL Manifold

    Borla UEL Manifold

Hi guys, So I've been looking at swapping over my exhaust manifold for when I get my 4.55 final drive, as I'll need to go EL to get the best top end combined with the shorter ratios. So before I go and order a lovely Revolution EL manifold, I need to sell my current Borla manifold. Before I go to EBay, would anyone be interested in buying it for £550 with only 2500 miles on it? It hasn't missed a beat, sounds epic, great torque figures and only a change of direction leads me to sell. If there is interest I will need payment first to order the new manifold, and then once it arrives you can either collect or I will send the Borla one out to you I still have the original box complete with instructions sitting at home with a complimentary Borla cap too! Just let me know! Speak soon

    VW Golf R400

Ugly and way too heavy the mk4! The weight made the R32 slow for what it should have been!
  15. JamesP1991

    VW Golf R400

400hp from the same 2 litre turbo 4 pot that is in the Golf R?! That is some serious HP/L figures which I would imagine overtake even the A45 AMG? Still wouldn't buy one though, as knowing VW and the Golf it will be HUGELY overpriced compared with the likes of the new Focus RS and the turbo Civic Type R etc.

    Nige's Wide Body Project

I meant a learning experience in regards to the Rocket Bunny kit Nige, not in general but never mind I had a close up look at Dan's diffuser at Japfest as he was parked next to me on the stand, I couldn't believe how much bodging you have to do to get it to sit snugly and securely at the rear of the car! His is the real diffuser too isn't it? I can't imagine the job you have on your hands with your unbranded kit!

    Borla UEL Manifold

I totally understand that. My train of thought was leading to me needing my car to have more top end, due to the shorter final drive and further N/A tuning I will be doing. A well built EL manifold will always outperform an UEL at the top end, which is what made me start looking at alternatives. Put it down to boredom on a week night But I can appreciate the point you are trying to make, after all I don't know what numbers the car is putting down in it's current guise right now, so looking for an alternative is perhaps not sensible until I have that picture. Anyway I do love the UEL sound, and the torque that comes with them is delightful, that is not to say a well built EL can't make good torque too however. I will keep my eye on any developments with them and see where it takes me I really need a dyno day at Abbey I guess

    Borla UEL Manifold

Wow that is some serious numbers, even on a totally stock car! Do you know how much different the 4 into 1 manifold is in terms of dyno figures to it's 4-2-1 alternative from Ace? The full system is tempting me on the website, but it uses the 4 into 1 instead of the 4-2-1 design. Because it is about $500 cheaper, I wondered if that is because it doesn't produce as stronger numbers as the other one? Thanks

    Borla UEL Manifold

Cheers, it's just an idea I'm thinking about.. What one is the ace manifold? Not come across that before! I'll obviously get the car mapped again after fitting as I have the UEL maps on the car now any way

    Nige's Wide Body Project

Definitely have the patience needed Nige! I guess you could put it down as a valuable learning experience at least too will you be keeping it the white colour it is now or will you be changing it for something a bit more fruity??
