Hmmm - yes - it's bang on comparison with a Merc SL, but lardy next to a 911. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Is that the kerb weight for the hybrid one? Is it wildly out of line with the competition? It's not a small car... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Or BMW i8 competitor for the forthcoming hybrid one? You're probably right about the sales. A bit like the GT86 - fails the 'pub conversation' test because there are other cars for the money with more impressive stats. The 86 also got terrific reviews, and doesn't sell like it deserves. I just like the focus in the reviews on it being fun to drive. Bodes well for the forthcoming Supra as well... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Guilty pleasures. What would you give up your GT86 for?

I drove the Abarth version today. Sounded great, nice inside but suffered from considerable scuttle shake with the roof down. Not apparent on more softly sprung standard car. Now that our GT86 has over 10k miles on it, it would run rings around either! Have they ruined it with stupidly stiff springs like they did the 500? No idea why they do that on road cars... I thought the wing mirrors were going to fall off every time I ran over a manhole cover... Even Audi have belatedly realised that stupidly stiff suspension and rubber band tyres doesn't actually make a car drive better... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I don't think it's appropriate to openly broadcast on a public forum how easy it is to get into our cars without the key but if anyone wants to know PM me It took us 5 mins [emoji3]without breaking anything [emoji6] Did you have a misspent youth? [emoji6] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

In their wisdom Shell have closed and dug up ALL THREE of their petrol stations on my commute so I can't get V-power. Any recommendations for the next best thing, especially from those with mapped cars? Seems like nearly everyone else's super unleaded is 97 RON which I suspect isn't going to cut it... Bright ideas? ...And as it turns out the one on the Leek road out of Macc... Had completely forgotten about that one as well until I drove past it yesterday... [emoji849] Airport one is a good call though as I do sometimes go that way... ta Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Depends what your summer rubber is as well. If running performance oriented tyres they're a bit softer anyway so seem to have a greater tolerance to lower temps. The more eco oriented tyres *cough* Primacy *cough* I find go a bit wooden. On the one frosty morning we've had so far I noticed my Yokohamas were still performing well... Last year I couldn't get the stock tyres off quick enough in Autumn. I have a jack and torque wrench so I'll probably wait until it actually snows this year before I switch... Woohoo. Just remembered the Shell station in Tytherington, just the other side of RRG. Nice full tank of VPower. That's better... and relax... [emoji41] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I loved my 1 series coupe. Great car, beautifully made and lovely to own but it never put a smile on my face like the 86 does... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I suppose 'low' is relative... 'lower' perhaps! Felt very similar in delivery to other turboed cars I've driven - and the 86 is lighter of course which will help... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Absolutely. Whilst it's great fun as a driver, for punchiness my 86 feels completely gutless compared to my old Saab 9-5 Aero. That had 285 bhp but given it was a great lardy lump of metal they should be close. But the Saab had great gobs of torque from 2.5k upwards. Nothing but nothing I've owned could hold a candle to that for overtaking... Even my 120d coupe was punchier in an overtake than the GT86 and that gives away 20 bhp and 200kg... Having tried TDs Turbo 86 - that certainly does the trick. It is not slow... [emoji41] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Winter tyres are great but it does depend where you live. I have sets for both my cars, but even in the North West I didn't need them last winter. If I lived in the South I doubt I'd bother... But there have been some real cold snaps over the last few years round here and they were just brilliant on snow and slush, and they're generally better in the cold anyway. Plus it's an excuse to own another set of wheels isn't it? There is that... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Couldn't agree more, though I top up with the Tesco stuff if I have to... Ridiculous situation, they've dug up the Macclesfield, Chelford and Knutsford sites all at the same time so I'm out of luck for now whether I like it or not [emoji35] At least I know the BP 97 Ron fuel won't kill it if I have to... Apart from the obvious WHHHYYYYY?!!! (Fiesta ST much more fun anyway if you don't mind fwd which I don't) isn't the Corsa cheaper to buy - so why didn't you just buy one? ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Well yes - very nice. But you could perhaps use a slightly larger parking space ;-) Kudos for the 86 being your 'sensible' car though :-D. Reminds me of the lady I saw on a forum with a Lotus Elise. She got pregnant. Sell the car? Noooo. She just found a pushchair small enough to cram into the luggage bay. Respect [emoji41] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Aside from the tyre review sites though, ask on any enthusiasts forum that I've been on what tyres to buy and those same names crop up... There's usually a healthy debate about which of the midrange brands/models is best, but it's always between those choices... What there is almost always a consensus on though is a) cheap Chinese tyres are still crap and it's not really worth paying more for the 'premium' brands. I imagine it's only a matter of time though... if the Chinese can build MacBooks, they'll eventually make great tyres, and probably cheaper... but see no evidence of it yet. Someone else can be the guinea pig there... [emoji1] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I have JR alloys for winter wheels and like them. Good value at the price and seem decently made. As per comments above I wouldn't touch budget tyres though. I run the Yokos on 18s on my summer wheels and they are really good. Tyres are more important than anything else - I used to spend £70-80 a corner even on the £1500 cars I've run! Could be worse though. A replacement rear on my old BMW was £200 [emoji30]. We're lucky with the 86 - decent rubber is cheap on this car. As well as the Yokohamas, there are decent options from Kumho, Vredestein and Uniroyal around the same price. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I also was impressed by the TD turbo. The best compliment I can pay it is that it felt like a factory installation. Very reminiscent of the Saab Turbos I've owned. Shove all the way through the rev range. Impressive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
