Didn't want to crash the other similar thread with my particular interest so... Doing a bit of reading around, the most effective way to make the most of the car when staying NA seems to be to fit a decat or hi flow manifold and then remap. I may be inclined to keep the rest of the stock system as I've no particular wish to advertise my presence, just to release a few more horses and get rid of the torque dip. I realise if I go FI I might have to start again, but not overly fussed as that'd be a few years off and may never happen. The car is very nearly quick enough. I figure it might be best to get this supplied, fitted and mapped at the same time. Any recommendations? (Northern for preference)

North or South Korea?

Ah - what the Tomei UEL one? I was considering that...

I just wish they did the Compe in the right sizes. Proper old school... Would look like a 240Z [emoji41]

Hmm. I guess what I'd be trying would be cat less manifold and the stock secondary cat on the front pipe. Mind you there is the point that if it'd could meet emission standards with one cat, you'd have thought Toyota would only fit one! I did hear somewhere that technically it's an MOT fail if you've removed any part of the emissions system in any case, but I guess a tester would have to be pretty on the ball to spot that. So what did you swap out to get yours through?
-
it's worth it, when I had my car remapped I was told that my car was producing more power from it than another gt86 that was in previously with a full system (manifold back) so you really do get your moneys worth So did you just have the manifold at the point you got remapped, or did you have other mods? Can't remember what else you've got...
-
To be honest, if I were certain it'd manage an MOT with just the secondary cat I'd just leave the primary cat off, but juries still out, not least given that not all that many 86s have been MOTed yet...
-
Oy! Enough with the final drive mods on my manifold/remap thread [emoji2] Interesting though it is, I'm not swapping that out for mine as a daily driver - can get 40mpg plus if I concentrate at the moment. As a weekend car it'd be a no brainer.

What, on a manual? Not sure about that - bet it'd be fun, but I like a long legged 6th for the motorway...
-
Aha. I didn't realise that - thought you were mainly focuses on FI. Great - well that's worth knowing. I know you know your stuff. I've seen your trick Celica. 'Nuff said :-D

I like that. Quite delicate looking.

Well this was an interesting read for me too... Cheers all. -
Tempted to bring the Berlingo. Does the timing clock measure in hours?

Unexpected things you like about the GT86

My trick with those is to fold them in, turn the ignition off and then press the switch again before I get out. Then they automatically fold out next time I get in... -

Resurrecting this thread given the whingeing going on on the other one [emoji12] Realised the other day it has a dipstick for the washer fluid. Never seen that before... Neat! -

You certainly have to be bloody careful washing the bonnet. Tinfoil. [emoji2] lightweight, innit... -
I don't think you really appreciate having a nice car until the first time you fill up at night and come back out of the shop... [emoji4]

That is a very nice colour... [emoji41]

Yeah, a bit. Certainly grippier now I'm off the Michelins.
-
Supplied (with a smile) by Tarmac Sportz. Not everyone can afford pukka JDM forged rims, however much they might want to, and at this price point I was surprised and pleased by the quality. Not heavy either. These 16x7s weigh in a touch over 6kg. Well worth a look if you need some good value wheels or something for winter like me...
-
No - they were fitted by that point! Obviously the chunky 55 profile winters will account for some of the weight saving, but I doubt they offset all of it. Agree re wheel choice. Mind you I've seen some pretty cruddy budget wheels. These aren't cruddy...
-
It's stopped raining...
-
So... The winter wheels are going on tomorrow but already thinking ahead to spring... I've come to the conclusion that I don't like the stock wheels - the offset looks wrong, they're too shiny and I don't like the Michelins. So... They'll go in the shed. Options... Basically I'd like to fill the arches a bit more, and don't mind a bit more grip for road use but don't really want to ruin the handling... So anyone got pics of their cars running modest wheels? I'm thinking 17x8, 17x9 or 18x8. Whatever I get will be at least as light as stock so no worries there. Or I could just powder coat the stock wheels and put (quality) spacers on them and Yokohamas...
-
Nice. [emoji41]

How to fill the arches without ruining the handling?

Looking again, Deacons car on 17x7.5s at ET35 is even closer, so I reckon 7.5 inches must be wide enough on stock suspension. Or 8s on nearer stock offset like AJ124s Lauren's doesn't count with its trick set up [emoji12] Looks like 17x7.5s with stock size Yokohamas will do me fine. Suspension won't be changing for a good while. I have to say it's already better on my 215/55/16 winters. I really don't like those Michelins... Looks a bit like a pick up truck though [emoji2]
