Gutted! My Gt86 hit by dozy pillock

To be honest I'll use my usual rule of thumb - if the amount I'm going to be out of pocket by, divided by the number of hours I'd spend faffing around trying to sort it doesn't work out to a decent hourly rate - sod it - I'd rather be out driving the car... :-) -

Depends on the insurer. Some ask about 'claims' to which the answer is no, some ask about 'accidents' which is yes. We'll find out as we're renewing shortly (was using up the last month of insurance on the previous car) and we already had some quotes pre-accident... I had a claim a few years back - not my fault - hit and run on my parked car - but it was a claim on my insurance. Made less difference than I expected. And I'm told, a claim on other peoples insurance loads your premium less... -

Well it should be - Toyota approved body shop - that's why I'm getting them to do it... -
No controls on steering wheel, the system isn't integrated with anything else much, and the hole takes a double din system (with an adaptor) so swapping out is straightforward compared to most cars. The add on DAB doesn't look that great - personally if I swap I'd put the £180 towards a better head unit. I just bought new rather than used as there were deals to be had that made the first year depreciation look not too bad. And I'm a tight Yorkshireman. I'd never buy a new Vauxhall Astra or something... I too would look at a gt86 if you want a white one - there are more about...

Well I just picked a GT86 over the 135i coupe I'd been hankering afterfor a while having run a 120d coupe as a company motor. Like you I bought new as seemed no point in doing otherwise. I have no regrets. In a straight line it can't match the BMWs and wouldn't see which way a TVR went, but it is so much more fun at sensible road speeds. Top tip for the test drive - Rev it, otherwise nothing happens! Coming from a bunch of diesels and turbocharged petrols it was hard to break the habit of surfing the torque... And this car doesn't really have any. Hope you like it.

To be honest I'm not that fussed - perhaps I should be - but it's just one of those things. This is a long term keeper anyway and daft though it may seem if I were offered a swap I probably wouldn't take it - that's MY car. Just want it properly repaired and I'm sure it will be. RRG have been great, as I'm sure will come as no surprise whatsoever to anyone here... Haven't even wrangled a posh courtesy car out of them - a Fiesta will do me just fine... More room than the GT86 anyway! [emoji1] -
Why modify a new car - I don't need this explained to me but...

So do we - but since we had kids there's practically no money in our 'own' accounts. :-D -

The more I think about it, the more I think they're worried I'll come after them for a whole new car given the age/mileage. It is going to be a whole new three quarter panel - not major damage - just isn't going to be able to be bashed out, and unfortunately it isn't a bolt on panel... -

I'm not complaining. I have two kids and my wife hasn't made me buy an Audi Q5. That'll do for me... -

Well - things are looking up. The car still works, Richards body shop colleagues have got back to me and are working on the estimates, and the insurers are not being awkward and seem happy to work with them. Rubbish though it is, everyone has been really nice. I think everyone who's dealt with the claim so far has seen the date of registration, winced and been really sympathetic. Will take a few weeks to sort but I'm confident I'll end up back where I started. And I might have only had it a week but I'm quite attached to it. You don't shoot your dog if it has a broken ankle, do you? Bob will be just fine... -

Richard's had a look and peeled me off the ceiling [emoji106] Mechanically all seems well albeit a tad misaligned at the back so no major harm done. Just need to sort out the panel work and we can pretend this never happened... In the meantime I have a cunning strategy. If I park THIS way round it still looks fabulous. [emoji1] -
First special edition I've seen that appeals. That's very nice, and a bit subtler than some...

The Ka is a real pet peeve of mine. The original in many ways WAS the modern Mini - small, inexpensive and brilliant handling. And what did they do? Take a Fiat 500 which is dynamically inferior to the original and then restyle it badly, which is the one thing the Fiat DIDNT need. I was hoping we'd get fiat style with ford handling. Instead it was the other way around. :-(

What, do you think I can get an Impreza WRX motor? [emoji1] -

The insurer are cooperating so far... They've said to take an estimate from RRG. If it gets sorted that way I'll be pretty happy. (Or as happy as I can be given that our insurance will inevitably go up...) -

That's what I'm concerned about. However I'm hoping the fact it's not my insurer puts me in a stronger position. -

You know.... there were a number of ways I'd have quite happily cribbed ideas from your build, but I wasn't intending to emulate you by bending it first. [emoji1] -

I'm hopefully getting it sorted via RRG. That'd be the best solution all round. -

He's already pm-ed. :-) That's the plan now... Don't really want anyone else getting their grubby mitts on it... -

I think you're right. I'll get him to take a look first, and then see where to take it from there. To be fair the place they're recommending look reputable enough with four wheel alignment etc etc, but they certainly won't be getting my car WITHOUT telling me exactly what they're going to do first and guaranteeing that only Toyota parts are used. -

Hmmm. That's a point. The place they've directed me to looks ok - no nasty stories on the web I can find and is PSA, Fiat and Nissan accredited, but not Toyota. They claim that only genuine parts will be used, and repairs are warranted for three years. I'm in two minds whether to make a fuss or not. -
BMW are on here making notes in case they missed any... To be fair Fiat are at it too. The little 500 is a modern classic, but that 500L people carrier spin off looked like the Elephant Man. The annoying thing about it, is what made the original Mini so superb in its day was the packaging which was better than any of its contemporaries. The new one is rubbish by modern standards. Personally I always wished Honda had made a 'Type R' Jazz. That'd be more my kind of OAP express. My Dad has a standard one and it's a very likeable car.

Sorry - sounded like I was having a pop at you. I wasn't. I agree - it's the manufacturers problem (and by no means Toyota only) and I don't understand why they don't sort it, as it damages their reputation. There are brands I won't own simply because I have nowhere local I'd trust to service it. But let's face it, it isn't going to be us that suffer, it'll be the old person with the Yaris who's bullied and misinformed into thinking they need to take their car there. Plus I feel sorry for the franchised dealers that ARE conscientious (and it won't just be RRG) - I know decent Ford, BMW and Jag dealerships locally too - as I'm sure it's a lot less profitable and easy to compete when you're doing it properly... Just a pet hate of mine. Rubbish businesses spoil it for the good guys...

Start as I mean to go on. New addition - some rather lovely key rings from Australia. Top notch quality and only a few quid.
