Anyone plasti-dipped the logos? Think that'd look better too. The less chrome the better.
-
Oh. Ok. That's better. It's the Toyota text that looks unnecessary...
-
What, the one from the front wing?
-
Curses. That's the one that annoys me... :-D. Doesn't match anything else on the car... I suppose I could paint it...
-
You're being too harsh on yourself. It did look like a proper GT86... ;-)

Chris Evans announced as TG presenter
Nicebiscuit replied to Lauren's topic in Non GT86/BRZ General Chat
It's probably the best available choice. He's a talented presenter and proper car guy. -
Are there any holes to fill under the badges? (I agree it looks better without - they're awful - mainly because they don't match)
-
Nice. I'd half thought they were 18s - but the chunkiness comes from the width and lower offset. Made mental note... Always liked their wheels.
-
Oh - that is VERY nice. I love the gauges in the passenger side dash panel. What wheels are those? Team Dynamics? They sit very well.

Right... You media tarts. I'm going to get published in something. If nothing else I'll go and do donuts in Sainsburys. That should get me in the Macclesfield Express at least...
-
Well....you might think that, but I, on the other hand, have had five pints...thus my opinion is more valid than ANYTHING you could contribute... [emoji6]

I think Rob has nailed it... [emoji1] Banzai - unless you can get on the cover of Time magazine or something...
-
I suppose the obvious question is - with your future GT86 as a blank canvas, what do you think you'll airbrush onto it?
-
Cobblers - even the '64 car came with a 'six' if you wanted. [emoji6] But my point still stands, most cars are a poor mans 'something'. Unless there's anyone here who hand on heart would plump for a GT86 in the event of a lottery win. (To be fair, I wouldn't have a Cayman either - my GT86 is a 'poor man's 246 Dino'. [emoji1])
-
Or perhaps he just tried it and liked it? Basically it's not a grey porridge car and that's just fine in my book... And nothing wrong with a Boxster... One COULD argue that a GT86 is an effective poor-mans substitute for a Cayman. [emoji6]

I'm interested too. I'm sure it'll have its drawbacks, but they have so much character. And it's a V8 - what's not to like? Is it one of the brand new shape ones or the last shape? I'm sure we'd like to see pics when you get it :-D
-
I like the MG - was that just done on the inside of the engine bay? That's quite a cool idea...

Exactly. Plus I expect there will ALWAYS be some variety of excellent small turboed hot hatch available, how long it'll be possible to buy a new car like the 86 I don't know. It's an anachronism in many ways... However I'm not going to slag it off - it's a brilliant thing in its own niche and I'm really happy to see Ford doing these cars well. Anyway I put my money where my mouth is. Could have had an excellent low mileage nearly new ST for £12.5k. That is an absolute bargain. But I thought the extra money for the Toyota worth it. (So did the Ford salesman privately - lovely guy -but don't tell his boss :-D. )
-
That's exactly why I bought it. It was this or a Fiesta ST - in other words arguably the best current affordable FWD and RWD sporty cars. The Fiesta is actually lighter, does handle brilliantly and day to day possibly a better drive with all that torque. It's brilliant and of course much cheaper (cause they've built a lot) But.... It's still a Fiesta so it's a tall car with a pair of Recaros plonked in. Something is not quite right about the driving position. The Toyota nails it, and the view down the bonnet with the bumps over both arches is pure classic sports car. Apart from the obvious influences from Japan, the other car it hearks back to for me is the Porsche 944 - similar in packaging - and in its day regarded as one of the best front engined RWD sportscars...

Mine's Red. Think it suits the shape. As well as 2000GT, there are shades of Ferrari 250 swb in the haunches. (Ok you have to use your imagination a bit) A lot of modern cars are a bit flabby and heavy looking so you need a dark or metallic shade to hide the metal a bit. The 86 doesn't. It can carry off a strong solid shade so even yellow and white look good. Not many cars can carry off yellow. The website is all over the place. The configurator is still showing 17' alloys on the Primo... Hope the dealer staff are on the ball about the current spec else there might be disappointed customers...

New Tyres - Only the 3rd Set !!!!
Nicebiscuit replied to Test Drives Unlimited's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
Good news. I had a hunch you'd like them. I either get these or Yokohamas on everything I have. Seems little trade off over the better known brands, and they're barely more expensive then the nasty Chinese ditch finder brands... Their winters are good too. -
I like that oil cap :-D

I'm in Macc. Can walk down to RRG (and will have to for another week and a half) Wondering if I can watch out for the transporter with binoculars from here...

I'm old school, me. This is the ignition on my old eighties Saab...
