Well that's stripes out then... ;-) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Me too - I think if I didn't need the back seats I'd have bought an MX5. Great little cars. Never seen the point of the complicated metal roofed ones though. Simple car needs a simple roof. Newest ones really capture the spirit of the early cars for me... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's wasted as a toy. The niche of this car is that it's just about refined and practical for daily use but yet still driver focused. If I didn't need a daily driver there are more focused options for the money. Second hand Elise probably... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I think the big dealer groups are more powerful than the distributors, yes. It's the only explanation for some of the crap. We have decent Ford, Toyota, BMW, Jag and Peugeot dealers locally. All small chains or family run. Coincidence? No - don't think so. All the garages that have lied or provided terrible service to me have been large groups. Lesson learned. I don't think it's brand specific. I've had great and terrible experience across all brands. What is curious though, is that I have always found that the manufacturers are little helps if you escalate. Seems odd given that you'd think they'd care, but they give the impression of having little influence. So now I just stick with dealers I trust locally. The brand is now secondary sadly. I suppose that's partly why this legislation is silly. A lot of in car interfaces are so complex now as to be distracting. Touch screens are intrinsically a bad idea in a car. For example to change temperature with conventional dials you reach for a knob that feels the right shape and often don't have to look. Touch screens mean eyes off road. Always. But they can hardly ban using your car whilst driving - hence this rather silly legal situation. If I had my way there'd be much tougher standards on in car UI design... GT86 better than most due to being so dated. The touch screen doesn't do much! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Could be good. They kept the best three. As for Grand Tour - i have Prime but lost interest part way through. Just too contrived and tired. I too, though, will happily watch May tinkering in his shed anytime... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The real silliness is the discrepancy between touch screens on different devices. Given how crap the Toyota interface is, one of the most dangerous things you can do in the car is try change from iPod to Radio 4... [emoji23]. Far worse than clicking 'yes' when the phone says 'I've found a better route - want to use it' Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

True enough - but costs a lot more by the time you've swapped out everything else (which I inevitably would) and to be honest I've heard worse than stock. You ever heard a non upgraded BMW system? [emoji1] The law is a bit of an ass. It's been much more convenient using the phone, as I obviously have that in the car anyway... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yep - badly drafted. Still I doubt you'd get pulled for that unless someone really had it in for you... But I don't want 6 points for clicking 'yes please - take alternative route' on my tomtom app... Might go back to a standalone TomTom Difference appears to be that with other devices they have to prove 'not in control of the vehicle' - with internet enabled tablets and phones simply touching the screen is the offence... Pretty car. I prefer the Toyota version of the original car but I think the BRZ is the pick of the facelifted models... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And anyway an RS2000 WAS just an Escort, albeit with a Cortina engine stuffed in it... The RS1600 on the other hand... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well, as I've got the version without the starter button I have a little more room. So I use it for my phone, a small suitcase, back issues of National Geographic 1977-1982, and a portable barbecue. And there's a bit at the back I sub-let to a lodger. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's like saying an RS2000 is just basically an Escort, though it isn't because the Firenza had a different bodyshell with the fastback rear. The Spokrt SL was the first to have that bodyshell. Yes, 2.3 twin carb, seven dial dash etc. Well the good news with your Metro is that it didn't have the awful, ancient A Series engine. Quite liked the K Series (had a Rover 214Si which I missed off my list) apart from it's appetite for head gaskets. Sure enough it was the head gasket that killed it... bag of nails after that... Mines like a steam engine in the cold weather. Particularly alarming if you have to reverse through it... But seems perfectly healthy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The wheels are great. And you've got to go with that colour on a Subaru, haven't you. As for the suspension, I had camber bolts fitted when the coilovers went on and the car just doesn't understeer any more. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Must be doable - my Abarth 500 used to pop and bang in 'sport' mode even with the factory exhaust, emissions gear and a turbo to boot... Got to love the Italians [emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Don't be daft - get it picked up - apart from anything else GT86 values seem to be much more condition/mileage/spec dependent rather than reg plate. Like everyone else - I'd just get it delivered... For what it's worth - mines a late-summer 15 plate. Didn't even think about it... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

First winter, granny shifting everywhere

It's been brilliant fun this past week. A bit lairy even on the winters but harmless enough. You're right about yesterday though. Had someone buttered the tarmac?! Was slithering around every roundabout. Was fun enough for me but must have looked like a right knobhead to everyone else ;-D Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
