Thanks, the standard cars are rust buckets! Thankfully the arches on this are fibreglass and there's no sound deadening to hold the moisture and then rot the panels.

I originally bought this in April 2016, but didn't get round to fitting it until June and ran with it fitted for around a month. Its fully functional but not compatible with Torque (it is OBD2 compatible though), which is why I ended up swapping it out for a different Xtrons model that is. They no longer sell this specific item but there's a short Youtube video about it here: As you can see in the pictures below I've still got the original box and all the leads, GPS aerial, USB cables etc supplied with the head unit, also thrown in are the Toyota brackets required to fit it to a BRZ and six out of eight mounting screws (these are made of cheese and round ridiculously easily, I ended up buying a few spares from the local dealer). It still has the protective film on the touchscreen so is pretty much as new. If you're fitting to a BRZ you'll need the optional aerial adaptor that Xtrons sell, I've thrown a couple of red bullet connectors needed to connect the blue aerial power in as well. I don't know if this adaptor is needed for a GT86: http://xtrons.co.uk/toyota-car-radio-aerial-antenna-adaptor-plug-cable.html It retailed for £240, given that its nearly a year old (although most of that time its been sat boxed up in a shelf by my desk at work) I'm only looking for £120 + postage costs. I live near Milton Keynes and work over at Silverstone if your nearby to either of those to save postage costs. Feel free to drop me a PM if you have any questions.

Yeah, it looks like its mostly cosmetic, but will confirm for certain when they get it stripped. As well as what was visible from outside and with the bonnet up, bouncing across the grass on the way to the wall has cracked the plastic undertrays behind the metal sump cover. The bonnet itself looks okay and just needs rehanging on the hinges. Still getting them to respray so it blends well in to the new wing/bumper and its stone chip free again :-)

I'm going to try and get it swapped retrospectively and then sell it on, but as these things tend to do it went at the worst possible moment with work commitments etc and it was quicker and simpler to swap it out myself. Thankfully Eurocarparts have a pretty good January sale on so the dent in the wallet was much less than it would've been.

I'm definitely going to be without my car on the 18th Feb whilst its in the bodyshop, but still up for a get together and a bite to eat that day. We ended up eating at the Old Beams last Sunday, but I'll be at the Prince George on Weds next week so will speak to them then.

After much searching I finally found a relatively nearby bodyshop (Finishline in Graveley near Hitchin) who knows what they're doing to fix the damage from the Donny trackday.. I've been shocked at how bad the customer service has been in responding to requests for repair estimates at lots of places, god knows how they stay in business. I dropped the car off today and had a guided tour round by the owner Chris Bray, they've got a real mix of historic cars they're restoring - Mk1 Lotus Cortina, MGB with a 400HP V8 conversion, 1930's Bugatti etc etc, they clearly know what they're doing, are passionate about cars in general and have a long waiting list so I'll feel confident my car is in safe hands. Just the long wait until late February to get it back now. I'm taking the opportunity while the damage is repaired to get a few cosmetic bits tidied up as well and to lose the optional chrome trim parts the dealer I bought the car from had added, the centre of the fender garnish will be gunmetal grey to match the wheels which should look 10x better. The battery finally died a couple of weeks ago, I've replaced it with a 70Ah Bosch S4 battery, so much better than the standard Panasonic battery and as a bonus it has a blue top which matches the car nicely. Just need the weather to warm up a bit so work can continue on the Puma rally car and keep me occupied until the BRZ is back, we're rewiring and replumbing the whole thing from front to back and swapping the terrible current pedal box for a floor mount OBP item, its a nice piece of kit and much cheaper than the likes of AP/Alcon/Tilton etc, pic of the Puma below for those who haven't seen it yet.

I'd recommend Abbey as well, but if you don't want to travel so far there's an independent Subaru specialist near Silverstone whose got a good reputation, Northants Subaru I think.

I went for the trade day today, there was some lovely looking "engineering porn" on the CGR stand :-)

Yep, you want the oil to get hot enough to boil off any moisture. I've got a 100 deg.C stat for when I fit my cooler. I'm going for a similar design to Harrop's kit in the image below but will be designing a 3D printed scoop that has less frontal area blockage and "steers" some air back down behind it. I disagree with one of the earlier comments on the effect of the shorter final drive, if you rev it out in every gear then your average rpm is greater so the heat rejection to the oil will be correspondingly greater.

It's continued high load and high revs that really pushes up the oil temps (increased engine friction and most heat rejection from burning the most fuel) so as Lauren says its pretty difficult to replicate on the road. The Abbey map has a Racerom custom map that reduces engine power when the oil hits 130deg.C. If you really rev it out on track without a cooler then you can get to this quite easily, but I've found by short-shifting at 6000 to 6500 rpm you can keep it around 120 to 125deg.C pretty easily unless its a particularly warm day. With lots of mid-range torque tt doesn't make a huge difference to laptime and makes no difference to how much fun the corners are, but I'll still be fitting an oil cooler before summer track days this year for peace of mind.

I'm eating there on Sunday so I'll have a word with them about it then.

I can't do early February, so shall we go for the 18th Feb and try to organise one for March as well? Plenty of good pubs/restaurants in MK to work round :-)
-
Until the evenings get a bit lighter I guess weekends are going to be better than weekday evenings for a local meet. I can do either of the last two weekends in February, any good for you guys @Falix @TTR @Mikey P ?

Another one in MK, mini meet ahoy :-)

DanJ replied to Mike@TD.co.uk's topic in Tuning Developments
did you have it when you where last at Curborough? as I don't remember hearing a whine Yes it was fitted then, it's more noticable when you're cruising around rather than flat chat.- 101 replies

MFactory Final Drive Kits in stock at Tuning Developments for GT86 and BRZ
DanJ replied to Mike@TD.co.uk's topic in Tuning Developments
Very noticable whine, while I still had a stock exhaust my car almost sounded like an electric vehicle! It's not offensive but might not be to some people's taste.- 101 replies

Not yet, finding a good bodyshop round here who aren't flat out is proving challenging. -

You tend to go to London often? Thought I saw your car at the station a few weeks ago? I try to avoid it if I can in office hours, hate the rat race on the tube. That was probably when I was up in Manchester if it was a couple of weeks ago. -
Likewise, a nice touch and really pleasant change from the usual bills and other shite that lands on the floor!

Hope you all have a great one today, should be fun. Gutted I couldn't make it, instead I'm packed in like sardines on a train to London, argghhhh! -
I've got MTEC discs and have had no issues at all, its worth paying that little bit extra for the additional corrosion protection so the non-swept area of the disc stays rust free.

Anyone who puts spacers on or drastically changes the offset are likely to get through wheel bearings much quicker, the increased moment arm puts the loads up significantly. For bearings it's a cubic relationship of life vs load, double the load equals 7/8 life reduction! So even a ten or fifteen percent increase in moment arm length is significant.

Excellent choice (not that I'm biased in any way shape or form!)
