They're actually super clean. Amazed these are a more popular thing for wheel companies to make. Obviously, for mass production it's easier to just supply a generic centre cap and generic spigots, but these can't be that expensive to make.
-
Sigh...why does everything have to turn into a debate? Nobody's saying wheels can't move, I said they're not "flopping around". That's a big difference. For the small amount a wheel can move, I'm sure some hard plastic is fine. They wouldn't be on sale if they weren't. I'm not getting into another pointless debate anyway. That's all I'm gonna say.

Maybe a map has already been put on the site http://www.gt86.org.uk/forums/membermap/ I'm far too far south for a Scotland meet, but I'm sure there are plenty up your way.

You'd have to be extremely hard on your brakes to "melt" them. It'd be a different story if they were literally touching the disc, but they're not. Heat cycling can definitely mishape them though, I've seen that myself a few times. I guess that could cause them to break after all the expansion and contraction after lots of heat cycles. At the end of the day though, it's not like spigot rings are structurally integral to the wheel assembly. They're just, in effect, a dampener to prevent some vibration through the wheel, and to help keep the wheel centralised. But the wheel is bolted down with 5 bolts, it's not like it's gonna be flopping around

Bit of a last minute one this, but figured it doesn't hurt to throw some information up. Myself and @Igi are planning on doing a little Brecon Beacons drive this Sunday, 13th November. No details have been discussed yet, but my initial thoughts would be meeting sometime fairly early in the morning (perhaps 10:30-11am), maybe go and get a light breakfast somewhere, then head out for a sprited drive through the black mountains, stopping off to regroup, take pictures and chat every once in a while. If anyone is free, and fancies it, let me know and we can iron out the details over the next few days

Oh yeah, I totally agree. There are hundreds of options out there for cheap, decent quality and lightweight wheels. So much so, that it would sometimes be cheaper to have 2 sets of wheels (one for track, one for road) if you were only concerned about weight for track, and looks for road. I'm mostly concerned about looks for road, and I'm fairly certain I'm not ruining my car for the road by running 10kg wheels, but on the flipside, if I were competitive in TSS or something, I'd consider a second set.
-
Well, the general forum belief is lightweight or nothing. I'm happy to go against that belief for looks. Financially, my wheels were £600 without tyres. In order to get lighter, I'd have either sacrificed looks (I love my wheels), or had to pay a lot more money to get similar design wheels that were forged or something. Well, for the miniscule difference it makes, I'm willing to sacrifice forum points for money and looks

You can't say wheels over 10kg should be avoided, because he's not said what size he wants. A wheel that's an inch bigger diameter and 2 inches wider than stock, for example, is very rarely going to be lighter than stock. It doesn't mean they're bad. Plenty of people have driven my car with no complaints about wheel weight.

Valenti v3 rear lights with sequential indicators
S18 RSG replied to smudge's topic in For Sale GT86 / BRZ Parts
I think unofficially these are V2.1. They're a revision of V2's, so they're the third revision in total, but not a completely new version. -
100% identical to the noise I had. Sounds more exagerrated on yours, but I'm going to assume you had the bonnet open and were recording that from fairly close proximity. If that's the case, my (not at all) expert opinion would be it's the fuel pump chirp
-
Feel free to post it up. I'm happy to take a listen. Should be fairly clear if it is what we think it is or not.
-
I mean, if you want to go extreme, just go with Ese Carbon E1's. 19x9's are 5.8kg. They're about £12,000, but still.
-
Go out for a drive then stop and video it on your phone. Anyone who's had the issue would recognise the sound straight away and tell you yes or no
-
Yep. I never had the issue when I commuted to/from work, but any more than around 30 minutes of driving and it was quite obvious. Since the warranty swap I've not heard it.
-
Aren't they something like £600 each?
-
The million dollar question. If it goes on sale for £100 or less, it'll fly off the shelves, but as a big chunk of the sales will come from GTR owners, I wouldn't be surprised if it's not far off the price of a remap at £350+.
-
Mine are 18x8.5 and quoted at 23lbs, or just over 10kg. That's a reasonable weight for the size and width. Getting down towards 9kg or under at this size would be expensive, but you could quite easily achieve that at 18x7 or 18x7.5. As Lauren said, width is a big factor.

Well, indeed I am stupid. I thought you guys were much further south than that, i.e south of Birmingham. Ah well, lesson learned Just to mention, an old work friend will be joining us too in his Megane 265. He's also extremely jealous that I bought a GT86 when he wanted one for so long, so if we try really hard, we may get a new member
-
Wait, am I being stupid? I could swear you were based around the Cotswolds area?
-
Trying to think who else is local. I guess @Jared and @STEVO9000 are the most local I know, but perhaps even @will300, @Deacon and @HariboPenguin are around an hour or so away too. Be nice to get a few along

Guilty pleasures. What would you give up your GT86 for?
S18 RSG replied to Nicebiscuit's topic in Non GT86/BRZ General Chat
"Feel" is all about torque. A twin turbo straight six will quite likely feel more punchy than a 2 litre 4 cylinder in 99% of cases. The M235i has 330lb/ft from stock. You're talking built engine and 10+psi of boost for that sort of torque from an FA20. In terms of getting a GT86 up to that level of performance, I would wager a simple stage 1 turbo running 280-300bhp would be around the same sorta region, but would still be down almost 100lb/ft on torque. -
I don't really understand how having the store alongside the fuel station helps them share costs, because the revenue numbers (comparing Shell and Tesco specifically) would suggest rather the opposite. Shell rakes in 4 times the annual revenue of Tesco. Where I think you guys make a good point is that maybe Tesco are willing to work to different margins than Shell. Perhaps Shell don't actually see Tesco as a competitor, so they work to margins that only make them competitive with other fuel companies: BP; Esso etc. Also, I think you also make a good point when you say they use the low prices as a way to lure customers in to buy as many of their products as possible, which is perhaps why they're willing to work to these lower margins on the fuel. Why go to Shell, then the butchers, then the fishmonger, then Currys, when you could go to Tesco and fill up with fuel, buy some steak, fish and a new TV all at the same time. I think I will still, maybe even subconsciously, always prefer Shell no matter what. I know their product is good, and I have 8 years of reward points from them which also helps, but I may not be so hesitant to fill up at Tesco in the future if needs be.

Yeah. That's another thing too. Facebook is more about having friends than followers. On Twitter I have around 1500 followers, but only follow about 200 people. If I followed everyone that follows me, I'd probably get sick of Twitter too. I like that divide between people I'm interested in and people who are interested in me. Facebook, it's almost like you have to have a common interest in each other to add friends, or it's just annoying lol.
