All wheel drive BRZ that costs and looks no different to stock. Someone's getting sacked.

Looking at the first picture at the top of this page, the wing looks to be pretty much in line with rear arches.

It's been a long time since I used what limited knowledge of Japanese I have, but here goes. The large Kanji, representing family, I believe is a symbolisation of the close bond of family, as opposed to a direct translation of the word. The "protect" is a shorthand, less formal version. I'm not too familiar with romanisation, as they've likely been translated according to their phonetics as opposed to their meaning, however I recognise a few words being used to make up the names, I see "down", "arm" and "help" I think. I'd honestly have to brush up on my knowledge to give you a real rundown though, as it's been a few years. Korean I could help you with, but my Japanese is rusty.

Same here regarding no noise on idle, however mine is using all brand new gaskets, and everything resealed with exhaust paste where necessary, and I still get it. Everyone I've spoken to doesn't think it's an exhaust leak kinda sound, and I can't smell any exhaust gases. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk

Took another quick video which outlines the noise much more clearly. Don't know that this will help, as there seems to be loads of potential causes, but no harm in sharing. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk

6 character plates are really cheap, unless they spell something (like M46 GIE for example). It's the 5 characters and below that are expensive. I bought S18 RSG and S88 RSG for £249 each because they mean nothing to the average person, but they mean a lot to me.

Grasshopper Social & Lunch - Saturday 28th May 12pm
S18 RSG replied to rob275's topic in Social Meets
Same day as the Midlands meet Will never make it down for 12pm from there. -
I'll give that a go, cheers Mark. I've booked the car in to the garage that fitted the manifold so he can fit the stock cat back in place on Saturday (I never really wanted to go full catless anyway). I'll hang around and have a listen under the car and see if I can identify it better. I'm also going to order some heat wrap. If it's true that the thin metal is a cause of this noise, surely a good quality wrap will help deaden some of that noise, and of course keeps under bonnet temps down. On that note, anyone got any recommendations for a good quality wrap, along with a guess of how much I'll need? Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk

I'm glad you saw this, and especially that yours is the same. Are you full catless, or secondary cat in place? I've read that wrapping the manifold can really help, as it's mostly down to the thin metal as Tom mentioned (I looked up that same thread just now)
-
Mine's only under throttle too, anything over 25% or so pressure and it can be heard. I hope putting my secondary cat back in might quieten it down, but I'm not getting it refitted until Monday, so looking for any other issues in the meantime, in case that doesn't fix it.

I'll attach the GoPro later, and take a few clips from under the bonnet. I'll also see if I can find my Rode mic and record in car with that, might pick it up better.

Hi all. I bought my GT86 around 3 weeks ago, and I absolutely love it, however, last night I found myself filing up random interior trip gaps with foam to try and eliminate the multitude of rattles. This, along with a lot of threads I've seen about changing the gear knob for a better shift feeling, brought up a question I thought I'd do a search for (but failed to find too much information on, hence posting this). Are there any "quality of life" kind of upgrades you've done to your car, which have improved it in some significant way, other than the obvious performance mods? As a follow up, and to save me making another new topic, I wanted to add 2 other quick questions to the end of this: Question 1: For those of you who have changed your gear knob, could you point me in the direction of your recommendation? A lot of the US guys suggest "Flossy", but I'm not about to pay £100+ and wait multiple weeks for a gear knob. Question 2: I've never been a fan of "decatting" petrol cars, due to the problems that causes during MOT time. With the car's first MOT coming later this year, I don't particularly want to decat now, knowing I'll have to swap back in a few months time. However, I understand the GT86 has 2 cats. So if I were to get a second cat delete pipe, keeping the front cat in place, would I be ok for MOT? I'm sure these questions have been asked before, but hell if I can find them. Thanks in advance for your help.

That was my fear, the video really hasn't picked it up well at all. I think it's most obvious, in that video, when I come off throttle. There's still that slight high pitched tinny whistle.
-
OK, I have a small update, hoping that someone can chime in with an idea from this video I recorded this morning. You will need to listen carefully, as the video didn't pick the noise up too clearly, but it can definitely be heard, and is louder than it seems when driving. Going to tag @Mark@Abbey M/S in this too, as he knows the car and may have seen/heard similar before. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk

I'll try that in the morning Church. When I got home I tried having a proper listen, it sounds like it's coming from the manifold for sure, just can't quite pinpoint it. I wonder whether there may be something silly like paper jammed in there. That's the kind of noise it makes, but then it's only heard under 25% or more throttle. Under gentle revs there is no noise. It's strange. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk
-
Would that be likely to be heard at idle or partial throttle? This noise is more obvious, now I've spent a bit more time with it, under 25% or more throttle. It's got the rumble of UEL headers, but it's almost being masked by this whistle. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk

No intake leaks checked, but to be honest if there was an intake leak, it would have been heard before the manifold fitting. Both mechanic and dad said it's only there since. Leak checks were done on hot exhaust as he had to warm it up to get some heat in the bolts to remove them. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk

Roll cages you say. Would that also include bolt in half cage with harness mounting? If so, we could maybe talk some business.

So you want a turboed two litre flat four?

Now we're talking about Boxster's, if anyone wants a 3.4L engine from one, I have one for sale. Just £17,000, and it comes with a free car! -
Thanks for clearing it up guys. I'm sure I've seen pictures of manifolds where the exit is on the other side (Tomei equal length immediately springs to mind), but obviously I was imagining things. Good to know that it was just me being stupid though. Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk

Well, that's certainly put my mind at ease. I have no idea why I got convinced otherwise. Maybe someone else has an idea regarding US cars. Thanks Sent from my LG-H850 using Tapatalk

I specified it was for a UK car too, in case it made a difference. He also would have noticed that fromy address. Do you have yours to hand to check if they're the same? Edit- Just saw your pic. Looks like it does to me too. I wonder if the US models are different? I've been convinced all day that the overpipe was under the passenger. Maybe it's just under the driver on US cars. Can someone please tell me if I'm being stupid or not? I've been looking at this manifold all day, and I've convinced myself that it's the wrong way around (the overpipe fits on the wrong side). I was almost 100% sure that the overpipe is under the passenger side on the 86, but on this manifold the overpipe would be under the driver. Someone please confirm my stupidity, or genuine concern
-
If that's the case I'd possibly be up for taking it. Not sure how my weekend plans are looking right now.

If these were available at Christmas I'd have almost certainly ordered them over the 3SDMs. If I need another set for some reason it'll definitely be these (JR-21's)
