It has a split personality. Almost silent at idle and town speeds, then raving lunatic in boost thanks to screamer. Hilarious really.

Honestly, save yourself over £150 and just get a silicon replacement hose. As a few have mentioned, it helps smooth the airflow, which makes for a slightly less "spiky" power delivery, but I would almost guarantee you wouldn't notice the difference unless you were looking for it. Silicon one means you can choose the colour, which is a bonus considering it is, for the most part, a visual upgrade.

Time off? How dare you.

Naturally assumed food seeing as we're meeting at Harvester. 2.5 hour journey for me, I'm having food even if you lot ain't

Sounds like a plan. Count me in provisionally. No idea what family things I have to attend over Christmas.

MX5 is a true 2 seater, which is why it's almost a foot shorter than the 86. That's almost a foot less material, less seats, less speakers, less carpet, less sound deadening, less windows, less seatbelts and so on. I'd bet a 2+2 MX5 wouldn't be far off a GT86 in weight, same as if the GT was designed to be a true 2 seater, it would probably be significantly lighter.

Yep, no cats and no silencers aside from back box.
-
Sorry I missed this. I obviously have the TD UEL, downpipe etc. then basically a 2.5" pipe from downpipe back, with a fairly large backbox. It was all custom made, so quite difficult to compare to an aftermarket premade system. It is remarkably quiet though, especially considering it was on the louder side of most GT86s pre-turbo.

Makes a big difference when I can have a spirited drive at 3-5k rpm, rather than bouncing off the red line. 230lbft+ of torque from 3000rpm makes it effortlessly fast.
-
The spirited drive in Will's video, plus the drive down and back, was still in the low to mid 30's. Plus, ya know, turbo noises. So yeah.
-
On the contrary, your supercharged setup will never see 40mpg cruising and 35mpg on a spirited drive. I'd take the savings in fuel and fitting over a degree or two lower IAT. Personal preference.

I wasn't trying to be a dick by the way (just re-read my post and realised how it could be taken as such), I was merely saying that I only read 15 seconds of the first result on Google, so by no means am I an expert on the matter lol. Just what I read in that 15 seconds looked like it was a completely different kit.
-
Not that I know much about the GReddy kit, but 15 seconds of Googling suggests to me that they are not even close. Different turbo, different routing of pipework, internet wastegate (GReddy) vs external (TD), different manifold design. The only similarity in terms of IAT's would be the proximity of the turbo to the intake pipe, which is quite similar on both kits, but the GReddy kit is open to the elements and the TD kit is blanketted and heat wrapped, so even that isn't a fair comparison.
-
I haven't tracked it yet, nor have I logged anything, but I always have Torque open reading IAT's among others. Highest temp I've seen since install was 16C at 9C ambient after an hour of fairly passionate road driving. General driving it's rarely above 5C over ambient. Not sure how that compares to other kits, but seems ok to me.

Problem is, the only other dealer in this area is a good 45 minute drive away, which doesn't exactly help me with work. This dealership is close enough that I can go there before work, and still get to work on time after dropping the car off. Any other dealer would either require me to take time off (impossible given current workload) or a Saturday. But I do agree with you on what you've said. I'll probably just let them do the work and if they charge me, write to head office about it and see if I can get a refund for what should be warranty work.

Video actually turned out not too bad Will, considering you were just resting the camera on the dash. Hopefully when the good weather comes around again we can do something similar, and by that point we might all have better equipment. But for what you had, the quality is great. Thanks again for posting I'm sure @Mike@TD.co.uk will appreciate the publicity too.

Thanks so much @will300, some awesome photos especially considering aforementioned weather, not to mention the uhh, challenges. Turned out to be a nice little meet in the end

Honestly, I think they'll price themselves out of the market if that price estimate is true, much like they did with the LFA. 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and 168mph is £50,000-60,000 sports coupe territory, at £80,000-90,000 I can't really see what market they're trying to get into. Sports cars at that price are things like the 911, F-Type etc. and performance wise, Lexus aren't even close. If they're looking at luxury GT market, they're in the Aston V8 and Mercedes SL area, another market I think they'll struggle to get a share of. That being said, the LFA had similar problems, and it's still one of the 3 all time favourite cars, so what do I know.
-
Guilty. Had Wolfrace wheels and a big sub in the boot. Don't do things by halves.
-
On a more serious note, what sort of prices would we get on Michelin PS4's? Either 235/40/18 or 245/35/18. Probably in need of some wider rubber with the turbo.

My only reservation about Sunday is Chelsea, us and Liverpool are playing on Super Sunday, so it would be a good day of football. But then again, I would rather be out in daylight and miss the football than out in the dark and watch it, so I'm easy. Plus, if we can find a good pub at around 2:15 so I can watch United at least, I'll be fine

Mods coming in (INVIDIA N1, Rally sport mudflaps,Gold Towhooks)
S18 RSG replied to TheWhiteWizard's topic in Newbies
My advice would be to stick with a good panel filter (HKS, Cosworth or anything similar). They cost next to nothing and because of the great OEM airbox design, give some of the best increases per $ of any mod (up to 5 or 6hp for less than $50 is outstanding). You almost certainly won't feel the difference, but the noise will change slightly and knowing your engine is getting a clean, healthy supply of cool air is great. Just try and avoid wasting money on induction kits, unless of course you're desperate for the extra induction noise. Very few of them (beyond the very expensive ones) make as much power as an aftermarket panel filter in the OEM airbox, yet cost as much as 10 times the price. Save your money -
I'm happy to meet up with Igor around midday or whatever (even earlier maybe) then catch up with you whenever you're free. Jared can come along whenever he's free. Or if you all wanna meet up earlier on Sunday, maybe midday or whatever, and grab a lunch and do whatever else I'm good with that too.

Don't you mean you gotta wash two cars on Saturday...
