Unexpected things you Disike about the GT86
Willtl replied to remal's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
I had two test drives, the first was about 20 minutes around town and the 2nd was about an hour where the dealer just let me take the car out on my own and I took it down the M11. I didn't really have any problems then. It may be that the discomfort I'm getting in my thighs is not related or just something my body will adjust to once I've been in this position a bit more, in which case I'll edit out the complaint. -

You can't rely on the mirrors. When you are overtaking, you always turn your head to check your blind spot but the car does not give very good visibility. -

After a couple of days of BRZ ownership: Uncomfortable driving position for tall, long legged drivers. Poor drivers side visibility. To be continued.... -
I live in Grays (Chafford Hundred) in Essex. Closest Shell is about 10 miles away.
-
Yes, at highest position and furthest out.
-
I have it at the lowest, if I jack it up my legs would rub the steering wheel! Actually, I think even at the highest it still wouldn't support my long legs properly.
-
My main pain seems to be in my left thigh and I think the problem is due to the low seats not supporting my thighs properly. I'm going to see if I can introduce either a small cushion or towel between my thighs and the seat for extra support.

No Shell garages near me. I went on a 5 mile trip yesterday to where I thought one was, only to find out it was Esso. So my choices are either Esso, Tesco, Sainsbury or Morrisons.

Sounds like the gear change indicator is a bit useless. The one in our A6 is very good, as was the one in my 325I.
-
Thanks. I found this on a web search and sent it to the dealer to try as they weren't aware this was configurable. I'll be a bit disappointed if this works and dealers don't know about it.
-
They are also not particularly price friendly! As I'm picking up my BRZ in just over 2 weeks I've been looking around for insurance quotes. I only have 2 years NCB because I have another car with my complete set. Tesco's quote was a very optimistic £700+! Admiral offered £345 for a 10 month booster and Direct Line (who really should give a discount as they use a GT86 in the adverts) who I have my other car insured with offered just over £400 so I'll probably go with them.

Driving (or more accurately queuing in traffic) near Chadwell Heath today, saw a dark (possibly black) GT86 (13 or 63 plate I think). This is the first one I have seen on the road in the UK! Anyone here claim to own it? I've now cancelled my BRZ order as the cars are too common.

Just out of interest, what is the most cost effective performance gain? Exhaust and a remap? How much extra BHP would we be talking about and would you feel an improvement across the entire rev range?
-
I think they will hold their value quite well. There are 2 2012 BRZs on Auto Trader and the first BRZs only had a 3 year warranty. They are selling for £17k and £18.5k which makes depreciation no more than 30%, which is pretty good over 3 years.

People who cut in front of you, and then brake. People who don't realise that the nice gap between me and the car in front is left their intentionally for my safety, not for their car to squeeze in. People who think just indicating is enough to allow them to come in and it is now your responsibility to ensure they can come into your lane without you hitting them.

I used to have a Pure add on in my BMW and I was very happy with that. You can get a double din headunit from Halfords with DAB, Bluetooth and touchscreen for less than £300 so that will be one of my first jobs once I get the car. By one of my first jobs, I of course mean going to Halfords, buying it and letting them fit it.

Just injectors isn't it? As opposed to everything else being Subaru.
-
That is basically what swung it for me. Although having said that, the only GT86s I have seen have been on a Toyota forecourt. I never see any of these cars, clearly they don't let me out enough.
-
Not quite. The engine plays quite a big part in the car.
-
I know, but it is Subaru who actually make the so called spiritual successor, the Toyota just wears the badge.
-
That is definitely going, unless Subaru surprise me and have something different coming. I can't believe that manufacturers are selling cars in 2015 that don't have Bluetooth and DAB, may as well just put a cassette player in and be done. Fortunately you can get a nice touchscreen headset with DAB and Bluetooth for around £300.
-
Surely the BRZ is the spiritual successor and the GT86 is a re-badged spiritual successor?
-
But it isn't. The Lux model of the BRZ is £23,995 OTR. According to Toyota's website, the starting price for the non primo is £25K. If you opt for the Primo it is £22,495, same price as the SE BRZ. Maybe the prices have changed since you bought yours, but I would say to get a similar spec'd GT86 as the BRZ Lux I'm buying would cost several k more.
-
Interesting, I wonder if things have changed? I managed to get around 8% off list price, could I have got much more if I'd gone the GT86 route?

SR - assuming you don't clean your cars in icing sugar, what did you use? Some kind of dry car shampoo?
