The tips stick out by about 1-2 cm by the look of it. Is that the norm?
-
I've had this for about 20 years if this is the case. Wouldn't a blocked sinus clear itself in that time?
-
I agree, very odd. I have a diesel Dodge Journey which is pretty noisy but I have no problems with that at all. My wife has helpfully suggested it might be psychological, but I have a similar problem when flying and also when I had a TVR last year (although that was significantly louder). Did you find that the foam has made much difference? Not sure what I'm going to do yet, will ride this out for a while doing nothing further, but like to plan ahead!
-
Picked up the car earlier, drove a short distance home (about 1.5 miles) and my head doesn't feel quite right. I'm going on a 25 mile round trip later and will see how that feels, but things are not looking good at the moment. Was sorting out the sound deadening foam a difficult job? (my DIY skills are very poor, think Homer Simpson).

Why not take it in and see, nothing to lose. If they complain about mods I guess you could try to argue that none of them are related to the problem you are asking them to fix under warranty.

Got my car booked in to have the Milltek refitted on Wednesday but this time with the resonated centre pipe. Be keeping everything crossed that I'll be getting headache free motoring. If anyone is interested, I got the following stats from Milltek regarding volume levels: Stock Exhaust = 83.5 decibels Milltek resonated system = 87.2 decibels Milltek non-resonated = 90.5 What would be a perfect result would be the nicer Milltek sound on idle and under acceleration but no difference from the stock exhaust when cruising. I can dream....

So, after getting the noise it has never happened since, even though I have driven much longer journeys. Had the car serviced today and the dealer had already checked my fuel pump, I already had the revised version.
-
Yes, bonnet open (I also had a bonnet closed version) but I thought I'd load up the Tesco finest version.

Uploaded, but not sure if you'll be able to make out the sound. recording20161109200732.wav

I have a recording on my phone and after listening to that it sounds more like a whistle than a whine.
-
I wondered what that is and if it is this, I certainly wouldn't be happy to put up with it. When I first heard it Wednesday there was another car near by and I thought it was coming from that.
-
Ok, that means this could still be the issue.
-
Did you get this problem only when the engine was hot? I've not used the car since Wednesday and was taking it in today. Started the car and no whining. Drove to the garage and filled up, drove home and still no whining. Have the service in 2 weeks so said I'd wait until then for them to have a look at it unless the problem happens before then. In the meantime, send them the .wav file.

I think the idea of the high insurance for young people is to put them off getting anything too powerful. I certainly wouldn't have a BRZ if I had to pay more than a grand to ensure it. Fortunately my renewal was "just" £348.
-
MPG depends how you drive it. I use my BRZ as a normal car and I average around 35mpg with 45mpg on my best run.
-
Not had any problem in the BRZ with 6k+ from new.
-
Hi all. Have my first service coming up in November and have a couple of questions. Firstly, what sort of price should I expect to pay? It is a BRZ but I'm thinking of taking it to Toyota as that is more convenient and I don't think this will void my warranty. Whilst looking through my service book although it has pages for the body inspection that can be stamped and a page for pre-delivery inspection that has been stamped, there are no pages for an annual service stamp! Is this the same for all BRZ service books?
-
Thanks for the help. All electronic? That is pretty poor, particularly as there are pages for the body inspection stamp. Guess I'll have to go with the "local" Subaru dealership.

Developed for consoles? Yes, but the reality is that they are developed on a PC, which is what a console is these days, but with a proprietary OS. I have my PC connected to my TV with a 5 metre HDMI cable and play on it with my PS4 controller. I'm currently playing Shadow of Mordor at 1080p. My PC is not that great, but does the PS4 version run at that resolution? Even if it did, you wouldn't get the game for £3. I do like some of the PS4 exclusives such as Uncharted, God of War, Ratchet & Clunk etc so whilst the consoles get these exclusives, there is still a place for them. The consoles are also (or at least appear) more accessible so until that barrier is eroded they are going nowhere.
-
Been playing my first action game on the PC. Using my PS4 controller and plugged into my TV, this plays just as good as playing on my PS4 with the extra benefit that Shadow of Mordor that I'm playing, only cost about £3 from Steam. If I can continue to get the games this cheap and my PC is good enough to play the games I want, this could be the last gen I buy a console.

No, not tried that. I do quite like it though as I can pretend I have some mega sports car. Maybe I'll look into that if the resonated pipe still doesn't give me what I want. Thanks all for your views, think I'll get the Milltek put back on with a new resonated pipe and keep my fingers crossed that I'm not throwing away another £300.
-
I'm not planning on pouring more money into this, the current chain of events have left me feeling a bit bitter so it is going to come down to sorting out what I've got at minimum expense or sticking with stock and hope that one day I can sell the Milltek.
-
Does it still have a nice sound on start up and idle?
-
Thanks for the comments. All the other parts were stock, with the exception of a HFC (which has also been returned to stock). I've read various opinions on this, but does anyone know for sure whether the HFC could be contributing much to the droning? (I say droning, but it may just be overall noise the exhaust system could be creating that is playing havoc with my head). If opinions are that the HFC could be contributing and the exhaust will quieten down after a few hundred miles (it was on 180 at time of removal), maybe I'll just get the non resonated put back on without the HFC and see if I can put up with it for a few hundred miles to see if it really does quieten down to acceptable levels. Lauren - why are you getting through so many exhausts? Is it down to your particular usage or that Milltek exhausts only have a limited life? I had my Alfa 156 from new for 13 years and 80,000 miles, all on the original exhaust!

Looking for some opinions here. Had the Milltek non resonated fitted in August but returned to stock the following week as it caused "head problems". Due to lack of selling success, I'm thinking of getting it refitted but replacing the centre pipe with the resonated version. I did like the sound of start up and idling, but my poor head just can't live with the droning. So my question is, if I switch to the resonated version am I likely to end up with the nice starting and idling tunes, but no droning? Ideally I'd like the motorway runs to be close to stock so I don't throw away a few hundred on putting the Milltek back on and then returning to stock..... As people mention the exhausts quieten down over time, can anyone offer an approximate mileage by when I could expect this? Thanks!
