Brands was my first and it was great which i would really recommend. I did an evening session 5 till 8pm. They do 3 sighting laps before the session opens to allow you to gain confidence. I was lapped by everything to start with so I checked the mirrors, indicated to the left and let them pass with no drama. Goodwood would worry me as it's very fast with grass and little run off but I imagine you'd be fine but run at you own pass regardless, take regular breaks for you and the car and keep an eye on your mirrors.

Welcome, I'm up the road in CR2 in a blue 86. Also recommend Abbey for work on the car.
-
My abbey map was only about 450 so seems a lot on an NA car
-
Not noticed a smell here either

Hi all, I'm getting my N/A 86 mapped tomorrow and wondering what combo of map options you have and would recommend. Do any of the extras ie launch control get in the way and should be separate of other ones? Thanks Adam
-
Was down there 8.30 till 12.30. There's some interesting cars to have a look at and watching some of the maping was interesting all be it noisy. They have a reception area with some jap magazines etc but after an hour or two you might want to pop to the oxted towm centre a 15min walk away, we stopped in Wetherspoons for some food right next to the morrisons supermarket

Thanks for opinions everyone, mark at abbey has now mapped the car which I mostly took his advice on 98ron 98ron with flat foot shift and launch control 98ron with flat foot shift, launch control and downshift blip 95ron and limited to 5k rpm all gears Mark didnt feel different throttle sensitivity would be beneficial on NA and I agree as all map options behave in the same way. All maps also have the loud cold start removed which im sure my neighbours approve of.

I ideally wanted to go for a UEL manifold, but instead opted for a cheaper, quieter and more mot friendly option with a milltek overpipe and cobra decat front pipe. I was under the impression that removing the overpipe heat shields and with a bit of persuasion that it would pull out one way or another Didn't quite gp to plan and I found that it kept getting stuck against the manifold so the manifold came out which was so easy I kind of regretted not going UEL although I imagine the engine studs could be a pain after repeated changes come MOT time. Stock front pipe with integrated catalyst and resonator The annoying overpipe and all its heat shielding Front pipe side by side Overpipe side by side (doesn't look it but the new one is on the right and the photo doesn't do it justice for how squished the original OEM part is) New shiny pipes (apart from the overpipe as that's second hand) On start up I didn't notice much of a change but once on the move you definitely hear it. The sound has changed from a slightly characterless deep tone to one with more of a throaty edge and a touch more burble. Performance wise it was only a shakedown to make sure there wasnt any knocking which it passed. I will see how the ecu compensates over the coming journeys and hopefully a few extra ponies will be released. I know the outlay for the figures dont weigh up but i cant resist seeing how a remap brings the new parts together and it also offers a few nice extras. Also thought I'd check my tyre pressures as the wheels have been on a few months now. I was very surprised to see 40psi on every wheel even when i had told my mechanic mate to use 35psi. I dropped them down to 33psi as a bit of an experiment and it's shaved the edge off the firmness, again like the exhaust it needs some more testing though.

Hi All, On Thursday I passed the initiation test and became a GT86 owner so its time to start a project thread. Although I have to tell you now this might become more of a journal of ownership and road trips with a few subtle mods here and there. The Car The car was ordered from Steven Eagell Toyota in St Albans following a fairly simply Car Wow purchase after my local dealership couldn't arrange a half decent test drive and wouldn't budge from the list price. Toyota GT86 2015 GT86 Spec Starlight Blue or Lapis Blue Pearl Metallic (K3X) Manual Transmission Half Leather/Half Alcantara heated seats Spoiler For me this was one of those bucket list ticking days having always wanted my first brand new car and day one with this car started at 5 delivery miles. It also ticks a few others being my first Japanese and flat four engined car, at least I have an excuse not to get a 911 next! However collection didn’t quite go to plan and it was spoiled by the car arriving unspoilered. Now im not a huge fan of the OEM one but at the same time I had spec’d it on my order and even called the salesman post ordering to confirm so I was more than a bit annoyed when it wasn’t there. Following a few days driving I am almost over the issue and really enjoying the running in period. Background The GT86 has been on my radar for a good couple of years since I saw a concept car on Gran Turismo 5 all be it with 300bhp and I was seriously thinking about one last July but the timing wasn’t quite with wedding plans underway. I had a bit of money in the wedding fund but at the same time not sure how much id need for the next car. I was looking at pretty much every performance car made from Clio 172’s to S2000’s and M3’s to 911’s but nothing never came together and the GT86 itch was still there. Fast forward almost a year and the big wedding bills have been paid and I still hadn’t settled on a car. With the rest of the fleet ageing and needing bit more attention I convinced myself a low maintenance, new car that I could take on road trips around Britain and Europe in the coming years was the ideal solution. The GT86 ticked that box and even got the fiancées approval if it got me off my weekly pistonheads classified searches and came with heated seats. Previous/Current cars Ford Fiesta 1.1 VW Golf 1.8 VW Golf GTI 2.0 8v Seat Leon Cupra R 225 VW Golf GTI 2.0 8V Audi TT mk1 3.2 DSG MNR Vortx RT (current fleet) Seat Leon Cupra TDI 150 (current fleet) Road car ownership for me peaked with a 265bhp AMD tuned Seat Leon Cupra R 225. The Leon being an epic all-rounder I wish I hadn’t sold but needs must and it helped get my foot on the property ladder. It was replaced with my current mk3 Golf GTI which wont refuse to die and isn’t worth replacing. Then there’s my kit car a Marc Norden Racing(MNR) Vortx, basically a stripped out Caterham Seven(yes they are fat ladies in comparison) with a Yamaha R1 engine which I built with my Dad and it’s a proper adrenaline rush to drive, it will never leave the stable and will continue to evolve over the next few years. The GT86 replaces the TT which I thought for a car with the infamous VR6 engine would be incredible and a more unique alternative to the R32 Golf. Looks wise the car was great in Dolomite grey with the V6 deeper and more aggressive bumper grills and larger spoiler it looked fantastic. Inside the bespoke quality was hard to match in its day yet alone today. However when it came to driving it never delivered. The DSG box while great for commuting left me numb when all changing a gear became was click, click, click with no driver engagement, feel or thought. The VR6 engine was damn fast but never felt fast in its delivery with that boat anchor upfront and in the corners it felt wallowly and understeered with its FWD bias. Glad its gone and time for RWD! Planned Modifications Back to the GT86 and I’m planning a flexible fast road car that also sorts out a few pet hates with the stock car. Exterior/Interior - Boot lip Spoiler, Tom’s tail lights and Centre armrest Engine – panel filter, full exhaust and a stage 1 remap Chassis & Brakes - lowering springs or full suspension kit and fast road pads Wheels & Tyres – 17’s probably Rota Titan or Speedline 2120’s More Engine - Cosworth Supercharger - if I get bored with the above Enough of my waffle here are some photos of the 86 Now to get on with the 1,000 mile run in period Adam

Sounds more complicated than I first expected and I was already confused Which maps are worth having increased throttle response on and how do you find it beneficial? I wanted a valet and poor fuel mode so might see if these can be done as one map. Has anyone limited in gear revs ie 1st to no more than 4k rpm?

I paid 560 for a secondary catback resonated system about 6 months back brand new from tarmacsportz on eBay for comparison. Customer service was great, fitment was perfect, performance seemed improved being more free to rev and slightly more responsive. Noise is subjective, i think its loud as the cars soundproofing is pretty shit but for a good reason, it's much better than stock with a deep and bassy sound which is quite an uncharacterful sound but then I haven't heard any cat back that makes me think race car without being stupidly loud. I have just fitted a overpipe and decat which adds some much needed extra character and throatyness but atleast thats the good thing about being modular as you can try as i did for yourself before upgrading to the next part

I always carry a microfiber and quick detailer. Spray the bird bomb with the detailer to try and break it up. If it doesn't break up cover with the microfiber and soak it with detailer, this way it allows the detailer to be absorbed and break up the poo. Then hose off or dab but definitely don't wipe as there is usually gritty bits in the poo that will mark the paint

When I upgraded to my speedline alloys I had the valves swapped from the oem wheels to the new wheels and it worked fine. We kept the valves all in the same position although I don't think our system is that advanced to say which wheel is causing the issue as there is only a single warning light so it probably wouldnt matter. I think oe wheel pressure is 35psi on both 17 and 18 inch wheels

I went for eibach 20/25mm lowering springs second hand and very happy with them. If they are firmer I barely notice it and handling felt the same.
-
Our toyotas are 56.1. Is the centre bore stamped on the wheel or do you know the car it came off to double check the cb size. I got 57.1mn to 56.1mm spigot rings from ebay and seems to be fine if not call wheelbase/rimstyle or the likes as they can probably get some.

Help - want to lower the BRZ what my options
bassett replied to richardcarman's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
I went for springs as i cant be bothered with adjustable coilovers that i wont adjust and they offer the drop i wanted. Also springs allow you to do dip your toes in on a budget as i paid £80 for a second hand set of eibach 25mm front and 20mm rear spring and they took a couple of hours to fit. I couldnt be happier with them, exactly what i wanted with only a slightly harsher ride, possibly more fidgety at slow speed on broken surfaces but its hard to remember if the stock springs were like that anyway. There is the potential the dampers will wear out quicker but by that time there will be a huge supply of dirt cheap second hand spares and uprated dampers are available should you want to improve them aswell. -
Out of interest did you feel the front and rear braces added anything as ive been thinking about getting a set but wondering if it's more aesthetics over performance
-
looks good, I like the contrast of the paint with the wheels. My take on exhausts is just dive straight in and get one as there is so much choice but at least they are quick to change and its always something in demand on the used market should you want change
-
Mines a second car to a diesel hatch, id agree on that its not special enough as a second car but then i still find it fun, fast enough, its new so shouldnt have any high maintenance costs, its practical (went around europe no trouble) plus most importantly i can get it down a ramp and into my tight garage which i doubt a used cayman/m3/911 would.

Thanks for the heads up. Does this include dedicated sat navs ie a garmin/tomtoms? I do wonder how the hell are they going to enforce it unless very obvious and the police are driving past someone.

Finally got the Speedline Turini's on, a long time coming (priorities shifted when I found out a little one was on the way). Really happy with how they turned out and will be interesting to see how these new Yokohama V105s perform. I actually got along with the Primacy's pretty well in dry, hot and even damp conditions but as soon as the temperature dropped and it got wet and greasy out I was definitely surprised on a few occasions. Hopefully the new tyres will be more predictable but still allow some now and again.

Fiesta 1.1l mk3 3dr 1990 which got written off after a failed break in attempt where they attempted to pop the locks by wedging in a screwdriver resulting in needing replacement doors which was uneconomical to repair Golf 1.8 GL mk3 5dr 1996 in dragon green cosmetically modified but H&R suspension near enough ruined the ride quality Golf 2.0 GTI mk4 3dr 1999 another green one Seat Leon Cupar R 225 1.8T 2004 in silver tuned to 265bhp/300lbft by AMD Essex I built a MNR Vortx* with a yamaha R1 03 engine, it's a G plate but was built in 2009. It's a lotus 7 based kit car. the slow progress of improving cars then went back to square one to buy a house Golf GTI 2.0 1995 3dr silver. This was bone stock but thrashed every where which was quite enjoyable. Audi TT 3.2 v6 DSG 2004 in dolomite grey with factory BBS alloys. Bit of a mistake with this one as I wanted to try out a car with a vr6 lump. The extra styling looked great however I didn't get on with the gearbox. Seat Leon cupra TDI 150 2004 in black magic* perfect motorway munched with some overtaking poke Finished off with the GT86 in starlight blue 2015 * The 86 lacks the grunt of the TT or Cupra R but the immediacy, engagement and handling more than make up for it. Strangely don't miss the TT interior which was pretty nice in light grey leather but wasn't the most comfortable. * denotes current car

Had to use my physical key also. Firstly make sure you turn the right way but it definitely needs some brute force and feels like it might break but doesn't.

Tarmac sports did a good copy for around 100-120 any local painter should charge around 100 but be aware the white is tricky to match

That sounds awesome especially once it gets going. I want to go UEL badly and would be interested to hear how you find living with it daily.
