Had the AA out for mine the other week, cars only a few months old and was only left for 2 weeks tops since its last long drive. AA tested it finding no drain and no battery fault and commented it was on the small side and to drive it more - thanks for that! at least I can use the AA invoice for some proof when I head back to the dealers for an upgrade.

The TRD replica spoiler came with some 3m tape attached along all the edges and as I wasn't going to use the supplied bolts I decided to make sure it wouldn't come off. I've used some extra bodyshop grade double sided tape with adhesion promoter spray and tiger seal which has always worked really well for me in the past and actually held most of my mk3 golfs trim on! I used some masking tape to set some guidelines as its quite a big item to manoeuvre into place and then warmed up all the tape with a hair dryer. Alignment looks spot on and to give it some support for a few hours I taped it down with duck tape. Whilst the hair dryer and white spirit were out I peeled the 'TOYOTA' and 'GT86' badges off. I was worried the debadge was going to be a daunting task as some of my older cars in the past had left so much foam and glue on the bodywork it was a nightmare to get off without leaving little scratches in the paint. This took less than 5 minutes due to the badges being relative fresh still. Using the hair dryer to warm the badge glue up and then some fishing line to separate the badge from the bodywork it came off really easily. Only glue residue was left on the bodywork which wiped off with some white spirit.

Normal mode scares the crap out of me when it cuts in so abruptly sometimes. In VSC sport I find it allows more angle for a slide and if I over step the mark it cuts in softer.

It's a 15 plate and is black top white bottom so I'm guessing toyota are still churning out this under powered battery. Took the car out this weekend so seems to at least hold a charge for a week. Just and excuse to use it more I guess.

The boot spoiler has now been picked up and the finish is very impressive. Compared to the painted spoiler toyota sent me after they forgot to order it with the car the quality is world apart as the toyota one had paint spots and fine scratches in the paint where as the one I've just picked up is like the rest of the body work glossy and without blemishes, the paint match is also excellent on first glance. Pics to follow shortly. One a less positive note I had to use the free toyota road side assistance (AA) due to a flat battery. I hadn't used the car for at most 2 weeks but there was no life in it at all and upon pressing the start button, it didn't even try to turn over just electrical clicks. The AA guy turned up and bashed his jump starter and cables all over the engine bay and body work and then told me to drive it more which I was miffed at. My other car doesn't grumble at all after being left for a few weeks on end and thats 10 years old on the original battery! I will just have to see if it happens again and rack up a few invoices from the AA before I have a moan at toyota as it sounds like a common problem.

Thanks for the info, was the map a big enough jump in performance for the outlay? Hoping to get headers and map all in one shot as id like to remove the flat spot but probably wouldnt go all the way to a charger. Out of interest how come you didn't go to Abbey?

Those wheels look epic and haven't seen them before.

Barely anything - cosworth filter, arm rest, currently waiting on a TRD style spoiler to be painted. Thinking about remaps/headers/catbacks in the near future your thoughts on your kit/where you had the work done etc would be interesting.

Car looks awesome! TRD's definitely look best in white I've only just started to modify mine so I'd be interested to hear what you think of the mods, any you recommend or any that the gains weren't that noticeable.

GT86 track crash - dedication blog
bassett replied to Squadrone Rosso's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
It's a good series and it's great to see someone really enjoy the full potential of the car. A shame they've made a few cock ups on the way. Throwing away the rear light lens foam for instance because they didn't think it was needed and the car filled up with water. -
Courtesy of Tarmacsportz i picked up a TRD style spoiler and had a quick trial fit before paint. It sat nice and flat so i took it down to a body shop a mate recommended. The painter commented on the oem quality and finish which was a good sign with the only problem being he couldnt find the paint code on the system as its relatively new colour.

To kick off the GT86 rally experience has been my favourite car experience I've had the opportunity to do to date. I could take my own car on track but I haven't been that brave and whilst I've really enjoyed trackdays in various machines and circuits I've always felt limited in some way either traction, abs, rev limits or fear of a big off/blag flag etc. Where as on the rally experience it was unlimited, everything off and the only limit is your skill. Turns out my rallying skills are severely limited but I was grinning from ear to ear! Onto the day and the weather was appalling making it more fun but also more difficult with the surface a complete mix of tarmac mud and gravel and there were some huge puddles. The first track is flat, tight and twisty with one long straight to get some speed. The second has gradients all over the place with lots of wide bends. Each section I had a sighting lap, around 4 practice laps and then a timed run then all repeated again on the second section finishing up with a hot lap driven by the instructor. Each run was about a minute long which doesn't sound a lot although it was a good amount of time behind the wheel. Being familiar with the GT86 definitely helped as I wasn't learning the weight and feel of the controls with the exception of the hand brake. The whole time it's frantic gear changes, searching out for grip, hard braking squirming all over the place and whipping the handbrake up with the clutch down and either having a slight off more often than not or on the odd occasion managing a hilarious drift. When I thought I was getting into the whole rallying thing I then had a huge down hill off and ended up on a grass section in the middle of the course. Being so wet the wheels quickly bogged down and I was stuck. My instructor was laughing at first with me but then he realised we weren't going anywhere fast. 2 other instructors joined him to push the car out whilst I gave them a good pasting of mud, accidentally of course. We progressed a foot then luckily one of the landrover cars from the other experience came down to give me a tow. On a circuit the embarrassment would be excruciating but given everyone was all over the place and I'd beached the car it was hilarious. By the time my car was recovered from the big off it was time for my timed run. The instructor then had his own back and threw me around on a hot lap. We finished up with a debrief where everyone had the same grin on their face and we shared stories of how crap we all were which was a nice change from the ultra competitive circuit days. The instructor then started laying on the best bits from everyone's score card. My times and score were good with highlights on BIG OFF! and lacks mechanical sympathy but then I'd never treat my car that way so I thought why not A few pics from the day

Been having a good few months with the 86 and absolutely love driving the thing now im past the run in period and over the Christmas break I had some time to fit a few small mods to the car. First up was the 86 steering wheel emblem as from day one I couldn't help but feel this just didn't look right. Nice easy fitment with some sticky tape on the back and just needed to make sure it was on at the right angle and central. Wasn't overly impressed with the quality for the price with little dents all over it so the supplier sent a second one. Air mail took an age but then the second one was even worse. Fitted on the car it looks nice and from a few foot you don't notice the imperfections. A Cosworth air filter was next on the list which was a doddle to fit even when I took my time to remove the air box and do it properly. From the side you can see the little tab so that it only goes in one way. Given im just outside the run in period I cant really tell if its adding much or if the engine is loosening up but it does seem to have a bit more pull at high revs and added noise through the inducted pipe. Finally was the arm rest which I decided to wait for a weekend when my dad was free to give me a hand and someone else to blame if it all went wrong. The Toyota PDF was a great help especially as it has the template but this job was a right pain in the arse! it was nerve racking stuff when my dad was holding the drill and almost drilled a hole in the alcantara. A few holes needed a touch of filing to line everything up and it came together in the end. Took about 1 hour and a half mainly checking and rechecking then filing with the most useless files in my tool draw. It adds a nice touch to add to the interior and it will hopefully get some use on a few driving holidays I have planned this year when stuck on the motorways.

Hi so whilst picking up my GT86 today (more on that later on) thought I'd update you all on the new July 15 onwards car info I picked up. First a shock to me but the engine bay isn't colour painted it's mostly black, you have to specifically spec a spoiler if you want it - more on that later lol!, vader trim section on the alcantara seats has gone, the new colours of blue and red are definitely different colour codes blue is now k3x and was e8h. No other colours have changed, new aero and blanco 18 wheels that should be optional on gt86's, leather is now striped rather than quilted and according to the brochure primo doesn't come with boot lid trim anymore.

Squadrons Rosso - I got some paint from toyota and even emailed customer service to check it was correct. I was supplied with toyota k3x lapis blue pearl metallic. Left me a bit confused and I haven't got a chip yet so not had a chance to test it.

I have the same dilemma but then realise they are expensive and tail lights arent top of my mod list. Valentis are only 225 at amber whereas Toms are what 350+ with shipping which could swing my decision when i get round to it. Im also never sure if the toms are red or clear lens??? id probably go toms as i have a blue car

Unexpected things you Disike about the GT86
bassett replied to remal's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
One little irk I have is the throttle in that its light, theres barely any noise or vibration at low revs so i dont have a great feel for it when im making a slow pull away and ive stalled more than a couple of times. Other than that though its perfect when driving about. -
New wheels look great almost LFA style which really complements the car

Hi all, Last weekend I put a deposit down for a factory specd gt86 in blue expected in mid august. The 2nd test drive really confirmed for me what an awesome car this is and I couldn't leave without signing up for one. I'm in croydon if anyone knows of any localish meets/car shows. Adam

Just picked up a gt86 and noticed that on the rest bumper sides whwre the wheel arch liner meets the bumper there are two holes that look like these should have trim clumps to hold them together. Can anyone confirm if there's has trim clips or are just holes maybe left for mud guards? Thanks Adam

Remind me more of a current focus

Any one else seen the non colour coded engine bays or have I got a special one?
-
That's great thanks as I knew I couldn't leave them unplugged
-
At least you got the spoiler! Mines coming in a few weeks in the post as someone forgot it after I specified it on the order and over the phone. Could you let me know if your engine bay wings, slam panel and bulkhead on yours are black or painted body colour as I found it strange mine weren't. I was given the line "that's how they all come now" and had to accept it even though I thought it was quite odd

As i said on the PH forum cracking looking car and im dead envious until tomorrow when i pick mine up Im yet to see the colour up close but cant help but think it looks a bit like a mini blue LFA http://myfirstwebsite.biz/11891/lexus-lfa-blue/lexus-lfa-blue-28-lexus/
