Who is the tallest driver here?

I'm 6ft 2" Took me a while to get the seat "right"...........now really hate it if it gets moved for any reason. Only niggle I have is if I don't take those extra few seconds to get myself settled properly before setting off.... .....you know, getting yourself squared in the seat properly with just the right amount of bum-pushed-back. If I just jump in and go I find myself sat ever so slightly to one side so that it can cause an ache in my left side where I'm pushed up against the bolster too much.
  2. Hi all, Out and about just north of Cambridge this afternoon and saw something wide, low and black. Always thought my car recognition skills were pretty sharp but couldn't place this one as it approached from the opposite direction. Luckily we were in a 30 zone so passed each other fairly slowly - surprised the hell out of me when I spotted blacked out Audi rings on the bonnet. Certainly wasn't an R8 or anything like that - but don't know what it was. Got home and Googled "Audi sports cars", "Audi supercars". "Audi hybrid sports cars", etc. etc. But again couldn't find anything that came close. The closest thing I could describe it to (sorry no pix) would be an i8 - but I've seen a couple of i8's up close and it certainly wasn't one. Any one got any ideas? BTW, I did toy with the idea that it might be a kit car - but it didn't have that kit car feel.

    Got totally baffled this afternoon

Sorry, I can't really. The front end (which was what I had the best look at) was, well something along the lines of an old 740i or Aston Martin Lagonda - very low, very flat. It was defo a two door - with quite a modern, super-car-y backend - almost Lambo like. Unfortunately, didn't get a look at the plate which may have given a clue - at least to age. We were on a pretty narrow B road which he filled from white line to kerb. Honestly I haven't a clue - hunted around on Google images and can't find anything close. One thing I should say - it wasn't a pretty car - very slabby - very purpose-ful - not pretty.
  4. You folks are just soooo modern, I haven't fully completed my on-going project to replace my vinyl and cassettes with this new-fangled cd thing yet..... ....so how do you expect me to get my head around putting music onto a usb stick? Seriously though, I don't download music - just never been my thing, much prefer a cd. (When I say I don't download music - I mean DON'T - I don't, and never have, owned an ipod or mp3 player, and there's no music on my phone. Strangely enough (or perhaps not) my son, who is 14 this week, would rather have a cd than download and he's spent the last 12 months building up a proper hifi with seperates - the icing on the cake will be a new pair of Wharfedales for his birthday. He does put music on his phone but they're all copies of either his or my cds. And he desperately wants a turntable.
  5. Hi, I agree with with the getting stuff in the boot thing, paint, rattles blah blah - but I can live with all that. Two things I dislike but I'm constantly trying to work around are :- 1, the high clutch bite - specifically there are a few places on my regular commute, especially exiting roundabouts where there are bumps in the road that coincide with natural gear changes, but if you do hit the bump just as you change gear then your foot flys off the clutch and for a blink of an eye the car feels out of control - yeah, I'm learning the places this happens and am either changing gear earlier or later but when it happens when your haven't anticipated it - makes the heart beat a little faster. 2, Internal storage - yeah it's not a big car inside and the centre console and glove box are OK but personally I would have prefered the door storage re-designed to take half-a-dozen cd's rather than a bottle.

    Coolant

Just run into this problem myself - though, typically, I seem to have done things backwards. Checked all my fluids about three weeks ago and thought the coolant level seemed a litlle low - maybe two inches above low line but nowhere near half way - but decided to keep an eye on it - never thought about checking to see if anyone else had a similar problem though. Anyway, checked all levels again this morning and noticed that coolant level had dropped to the low line - quickly checked the manual and decided that I had just enough time to get down to my dealers before all the technical staff disappeared for the day - should have checked on here first though. So I'm booked in during the week to get it checked out - and I'm now somewhat miffed with Toyota. Yeah, OK, so my local dealer is only a small one - but this appears to be a known issue and I think they should have told me that. My car is an ex-demo from my dealer - I bought it with 7,500 miles on it and I find it hard to believe that they haven't had to top up the coolant on it during that period and any "issue" has only suddenly appeared in the couple of months I've had it. I'm going to keep the booking to get it checked out for piece of mind purposes but if they try and charge me for something they could have told me there and then, well, I'm not going to be a happy bunny. Out of interest, are there any other known issues that a dealer will be reluctant to tell me about? - and if so, are they worth putting in a stickie for newbies like me?

    Car manuals - help

Just bought her-indoors a brand new Yaris sport (took delivery of it just over a week ago - after all I did part-ex her Mini to get my '86) ) no manual with that either - though dealer has said thay'll get us one - now that we've asked. Not a good show and have had a gripe at Toyota about it.

    Does anyone rally the 86?

Just been looking at the Toyota UK website and they seem to have details of a rally experience at Brands Hatch using what appears to be a fairly stock '86 Loks like fun

    Getting the urge

Hi, I've never been much of a modder - except out of necessity But I have been getting the urge to tinker with Daphne my '86 But I've got 2 basic questions - 1. how far can you go before putting any warranties at risk? 2. at what point do you need to start declaring mods on insurance? For example - would a basic mod like changing the air intake hose have any effect on either manufacturers warranty or any insurance implications? Cheers

18" wheel option on new ?

Last time I was at my dealers I picked up a GT86 brochure - yeah I know that picking up a brochure AFTER you have bought the car is a bit daft - but I see they sell 'em on ebay for £1 plus postage so I was going to get mine free. I'm not actually sure if my brochure is current or not - it's got "June 2014" printed on the back - hasn't got the Aero or the yellow one I can't spell in it - but has got the TRD - on 18* rims. And as I said on another thread - my dealer currently has a white aero on their forecourt - with 18* Oz wheels carrying Yokohamas - shame it's an auto.

    New Civic Type R

    33k! you've gotta be kidding. A hot hatch should be a wolf in sheeps clothing..........this looks a little.......dare I say it.....rice

    New Civic Type R

Ummmm....... ........personally........not so sure........ ......looks like they took a Civic and got a blind bloke to chuck some plastic at it. Not to my taste. A few years back had an older model.....liked the way it went but had too many little niggles to ge another one. Nearly got written off after a late night motorway smash - wife driving - not her fault - when we finally got it back from the repairers just didn't want it anymore - felt like a bad luck car.

    Speed Cameras A40

They put some of these (average speed) on a 2 to 3 mile stretch of the A1 north of St. Neots in Cambridgeshire about a year or so ago - - they need watching coz the ones on the A1 are actively enforced - I heard that they issued in the region of 5k tickets in the first 10 months of operation To be fair - not the nastiest bit of road but there used to be enough accidents on it to make the cameras worth while - - the cameras on the A1 are for a purpose and that's to prevent accidents not just catch speeders. - I use that stretch of the A1 a lot and am used to them, but weirdly, I kinda wish they had made the stretch they cover a little longer because now you get all the idiots booting it to silly speeds when they come out of the enforcement zone. I'm loathe to admit it but sometimes, just sometimes, cameras do serve a useful function - so if you've got new ones near you I suggest checking the accident stats for that bit of road before moaning too much they might save someone's life
  17. After 3 weeks of '86 ownership finally seen another one. This afternoon on the dual track around Huntingdon heading towards the A1/A14 junction, I came up behind a red 14 plater. Gave him a flash and a wave before he went A14 and I went southbound A1 (he did wave back) - ......nice to see you if you read this. A few minutes earlier as I was exiting another roundabout I caught a glimpse of what could have been an '86/BRZ - but it was so highly modded I can't be sure. BTW - gotta love that A1 slip road - once you get off the roundabout at the bottom it goes all straight up a nice gradient and it's usually quiet so you can give it the beans before hitting the A1 at the top.

Unexpected consequence of owning an '86

Thought about a flat cap - but then I'd need a tweed jacket and an old Jag to go with it. Went to the barbers and asked him for something to keep my hair in - he gave me a shoe-box
  19. Never saw this one coming..... I'm 6' 2" and a little past my prime......yeah, it is was it is....... .....but I never thought I'd have to spend time hoovering what was left of my hair off a car's headlining. before you ask......I only seem to rub my head when turning around in my seat to reverse.......guess it's another argument for a camera.

finally seen another - maybe two

BTW, mentioned in another thread that my dealer has a white aero popped in yesterday for something else but had a good look at it - all the gear - reversing sensors, monster wing, Oz wheels with Yoko tyres....... ......and it's an auto!

finally seen another - maybe two

Damn, it's getting to be like a convention of the things around here now.... ........saw two yesterday - a white and a black - - white was coming the other way on a blind bend - black was on the opposite side of a urban filter - both spots too quick too acknowledge other guy / gal.

Favourite Racing Car When Growing Up?

Audi Quattro or maybe just for plain dumbness - Metro 6R4
  24. I don't think that it matters how good the ecoboost might be because it's pointless having a 'stang that hasn't got a V8 - because it doesn't matter how you try and look at it, here in the UK anyway, a 'stang is a toy - and if you're gonna have a toy get a big one.
