    The Tyre Thread

Evening all, Given the amount of mixed reviews online, and general chatter about "What tyre" is the one to go for... I thought I'd start a thread. (I did a search but didn't find anything). It's an especially hot topic on our cars. Some people want outright grip, others want a slippy car! Personally I want somewhere in between, and I think the standard tyres are a bit too on edge in the wet. I'm looking to replace the Michelins with something a bit better. I've previously ran Goodyear Eagle F1's on a Golf GTI, and they were fantastic! Not sure how they'd suit the GT86 though? Another well priced option is Kumho KU39, which MX5 owners seem to rave. Since its a similar car (Small, lightweight and RWD) maybe thats the route to go? Will be interested to hear your thoughts, and give me your advice and experience. Cheers.

    Windscreen polishing or not?

Interesting you mention this, I've never had a car with such a scratched windscreen! I'm not sure what glass Toyota use or how its laminated/protected but it seems to attract scratches like no other! Also smears and watermarks are terrible. I've tried various polishes and RainX type products with no luck. Let me know if you find something that makes it better! I'm actually looking forward to it cracking so I have a good excuse to replace it LOL!
  3. Evening all, I was wondering what everyones experience is with Warranty jobs? The scenario is I've booked my 2012 GT86 in at Toyota as I've got a few issues: Fogging up/condensation in the rear lights Key light flashing orange with bleep every now and then when I get out the car. Random starting issues (takes a while to start sometimes, requires some attention from the throttle to get going) I cant put the passenger window down with the switch on the drivers door. When I open the Drivers door, the window pops down as normal. When I shut it, it doesn't pop back up! Meaning I have to go around the passenger side before I switch the ignition off to lean over and fully close the window! Now I bought the car used with 2 years warranty still remaining on it back in September. Does anyone think they will try and wiggle out of the above issues? I've heard of other manufactures long warranties not being worth the paper they're written on. It's a bit annoying that I've bought a new-ish car with warranty to try and dodge niggly problems and it's exactly what I've got! It's also annoying that they cant fit me in until the 25th to look at it, but if they're busy I cant really do much about it. Any other advice about working with Toyota to get these issues resolved is appreciated. I realise this is a bit of a "Non-Problem" but knowing my luck, it can only get worse ! haha. Cheers.

    She's going .... !

As far as I'm aware 5 Door Polos are made in South Africa and 3 Doors are made in Germany. Thats what the Dealer told me last year when I was trying to get a test drive on the new GTI anyway! Happy New Purchase Hope you enjoy!

    Warranty Experiences?

Hi all, thought I'd update this. The car went back to Toyota on Thursday morning, once again I had a Yaris! Dammit. Anyway, the jobs listed were: - Condensation/fogging of both rear lights - Oil leak onto manifold. The car has had the baffle plate removed, and the gasket redone. So hopefully that'll sort the issue. HOWEVER, as for the rear lights. The service manager was dealing with me, and he said "We couldn't find any condensation or fog in the rear lights what-so-ever. We aren't saying it's not happening, we just need proof before we can do them" I suggested photos of videos to which he replied "or you bring it down to us when they fog up". Which is a bit of a waste of my fuel, considering it took two trips already to get 1 problem fixed! So no condensation? Drove the 20 minutes home and took these pics on my driveway...

    The Tyre Thread

The problem with the Vredesteins are you can't get those particular ones in our size... I think the Kuhmo's are winning so far! If you compare them to the standard Primacys, they rate higher and of course they are cheaper!

What are the Kumhos like for road noise?

    The Tyre Thread

Sound advice Lauren Cheers. I found the Eagle F1's on my Golf did overheat a bit on track, luckily brakes cooked before it was too noticable though lol! Probably won't be doing too many track days in mine so they're still a maybe, probably have a couple of months left on the tread of the Primacys before I have to change.

    The Tyre Thread

I wouldn't go near budgets. I want a bit more grip than the Michelins. There's a huge thread about "Divanti" tyres on PistonHeads, the general consensus is that they're the best of budgets.... which isn't what I'm looking for. Yeah, but the problem is I find continentals are shite and expensive. The Goodyears still score good! Ideally we want something with a softer sidewall.

Kumho's in question are under £60 a corner on tyre leader, and the Goodyears are only £70 a corner.

    Warranty Experiences?

I almost want compensation for having to drive a Yaris... god it was awful. I'll check the rear light etc. in the day and see how it is. I'll also give them a chance with this 1,000 mile thing and bring it back. I don't mind the slagging me off "Nowt wrong with it" chat from a grumpy mechanic who didn't know he was being filmed. We've all been like that on a Monday.... as long as the cars fixed I'm happy. Would've liked them to clean it actually, but thats just laziness on my part.

    Warranty Experiences?

So the car was at the dealer today having stuff done. I told them the rear lights were fogging up, they replaced OSR Light seal... as they say it was the only one fogging up. As for the Oil leak, the report says "Confirm slight oil weep from baffle plate, cleaned off and used developer spray. Customer to return in 1000 miles to re-check" I decided, out of interest, to check my DashCam footage. Sure enough the mechanics slagging me off a few times (Meh, he didn't know there was a camera rolling... I wont hold it against him). Goes under the bonnet to check for leak, finds leak. Bonnet stays up and he doesn't go back to that area again the whole time its in there.... odd. Also when he's talking about the lights fogging "You try and find a GT86 without fogged rear lights!!" Basically, the whole video shows him barely looking at the car. So I assume he spent the time round the back doing the light. Considering he looked at it first thing in the morning for an hour or two, then bought it back in again at about 3pm I assume there was some sort of bonding process he was waiting for on the rear light... I dunno! I suppose I'm just guessing here... just a tad annoying as the car still stinks of burning oil.

    Warranty Experiences?

Awsome, thanks for the info I'll have to get some of that then! I usually sit in the car for a few seconds after switching off (usually replying to a text or something) so I don't think its that, but I'll bare it in mind thank you!

    Warranty Experiences?

Thanks for the advice guys, I appreciate the help! I probably should've googled the key thing... but the manual just said to take it to a dealer!

    Warranty Experiences?

I thought that straight away but unfortunately not! I see, well we did have a frost this morning and it started today... this could be the root cause! The battery was replaced for an "upgraded" one before I bought it by Toyota. Thanks for the other advice I'll see what Toyota can do for me...
  18. Hello people, I'm basically writing this thread to ask "what's Toyota paint like" ? I'm more than used to German paints, and get fantastic results with my rotary using my current compounds (Scholl S17+ and Menzerna Final Finish). What is everyone else using? Is it quite a hard paint or will I have to be super careful? My 62 plate car is very clean but all those sponges/ tesco cleaners have covered it in swirls! Thanks in advance. I'll make sure to post up a nice report thread when I do attack it with the rotary, weather permitting!

    Retrofit OEM Nav?

Hello there! Is there anyway to add Navigation to my OEM System? It's a 2012 Car with the touch screen system (Sorry I'm new, is this referred to as "Touch & Go"?) Thanks. Jason

    Rotary compounds and pads.

I think I need something harder. Didn't quite get the deeper swirls, but still a million times better. Oh, and wax'd properly too! DSC_0854 by Jason.Easton, on Flickr

    Rotary compounds and pads.

Thanks for the speedy replies. Totally agree reed with your philosophy here. I've always done one big clean and detail a year, and just maintained it by keeping up good cleaning regimes and obviously waxing. Yes, I'm a sad bastard haha! But once I've gone over it (it's red btw) I'll be using the dodo supernatural hybrid I have to seal it. Did a fantastic job on all my other cars!

    Hello from Oxford-ish

I quite enjoyed a trackday I did in my old GTI, so when the insurance renews in December I'll add trackday cover on there and take it out! Not many plans at the moment, saving up to take my Bike test so wont be splashing out too much on this... other than buying it of course! Just enjoying it at the moment, especially in the wet today. I haven't got excited by wet tarmac since my Mazda

    Hello from Oxford-ish

Hey there. Picked up my 62plate GT86 on Saturday evening, loving it so far! Always join an owners forum when I change cars! As for me, my history: 09' Clio GT 00' Bora 1.6 (Lowered stupid amounts, Audi wheels, full Vag Cliche!) 83' Golf 1.3 Driver (see above really) 99' Audi 2.4 SE (No idea what I was thinking) 02' Bora TDI Sport (Air Ride, rare wheels, yadayada) 06' Golf GTI 97' Mazda Roadster RS import + A £330 Alfa 156 for the fun of it, and for more comfortable long journeys 02' BMW 330ci Sport Manual 02' Skoda Octavia VRS And here I am now! There's a few others in there, but hopefully this is staying with me for a while! Since turning 23 last week, I've gone all sensible! Anyway, hello and thanks in advance for answering all my stupid questions...

    Retrofit OEM Nav?

Cheers people! On my 4150+ Mile roadtrip in the summer, my Garmin was Faultless. But like I said, since being back home I've been trialing Waze and I really like it. Especially for the traffic updates and really accurate ETA's.

    Retrofit OEM Nav?

Wow! Thanks for the all the info, there's some useful stuff in there for me. As above, I quite like Waze over my standalone Sat-Nav unit so I think it wins this round!
