Thanks for the responses. If the FA20 is tailing off over 7600 rpm then I can see now there isnt much point, whether safe or not. Doesn't feel nice when an engine starts to tail off top end anyway, especially not a revvy N/A engine. Only slight gain would be bringing you into higher revs for the next gear. I think 7600 rpm max would be useful enough, added flexibility and means you can aim to get the revs up to 7250-7500 without hitting the limiter which is not good anyway.

If I went for a 'gutted' main cat, or 2nd cat delete followed by remap it wouldn't be worth removing these IMO. The value of parts would be out weighed by labour costs of removal. They would be the only engine mods anyway. Aiming for 210 to 220 bhp. Would consider adding final drive to aid acceleration such as 4.67 FD. That would be plenty for the B roads and reliable fun in my mind.

I have some experience of my own here... I have bought modified cars before, saving me lots of money on future mods, sometimes a well modified car with the right owner is very well cared for. I have also bought cars standard and spent a lot modifying. I also like to keep standard bits to have option of selling mods to recoup some money, and then sell car standard. But I have also sold cars modified at a marked up price to people like me that see the value of a slightly higher price being better than paying out for the mods on a standard car. In the caee of the GT86, I would aim to keep it a long time anyway, saving me a lot of money by not changing and modifying other cars.

Wondering for myself or others on smaller mod budgets, whether this idea would be best with remap, or 2nd cat delete front pipe and remap...

Ps. Big time honda fan... Never experienced a DC2, missed the boat on that one. Currently on my second EP3.

Hi all! Currently researching the GT86. In no way can I afford one yet, maybe in a few years. The twins GT86 / BRZ are sort of like a halo car to me, a realistic affordable goal if you like. There is too much negativity around the twins online. I think it's a great looking package, especially with some modifications. Massive potential from the rear drive chassis and front mid engine layout, with low centre of gravity as well. Good engine considering current emissions, and tunes well too. The car has a massive community behind it in Japan and America, not so sure it is as popular here. I think elsewhere it is accepted that it can be standard or modified to ones taste and budget from mild to wild. Anyway, HI!!!

Like the pure fun aspect, thats what we drive for at the end of the day.

I understand aftermarket manifolds are good for naturally aspirated tuning on the 86. With a decatted equal length manifold and remap, is 220-230 flywheel bhp achievable, while keeping the standard 2nd cat in the front pipe? What about standard catted manifold and decat front pipe instead, is 210 bhp fair? Also is the sound much different or louder with either of the above, I like loud cars but a catback exhaust just for sound and minor gains is a lot of money. Could the manifold or front pipe (not both) add a decent amount of volume on its own? Cheers.

I'm new here and have been reading up so I don't know for sure... I think the standard manifold cat with 2nd cat delete pipe can pass emissions and get some gains. An aftermarket manifold with no cat, and a sports cat in the secondary location may pass mot and get better gains, but best speak to the regular tuners as they would know what has worked before. I am planning decat manifold and standard secondary cat, assume that will easily pass mot, not sure if it will hamper gains?

I test drove a GT86 around a year ago and I'm one of the few who like the sound generator in the cabin, probably because of various loud modified cars in the past. Looking at the engine bay it appears that the sound generator tube enters the system AFTER the filter. Is there a filter in the pipe somewhere to stop dust etc? I know it's unlikely and of course when designed this must have been thought about, but am curious!

I need to wait until circa £10k. But hi five back. Test drive one about a year ago, great fun. Also tested a Fiesta ST which was great too IMO (obviously in a different way). The best quote I have read... If the GT86 is too slow for you, the road you are on is too straight! Unfortunately the same person then ruined his great words by adding a turbo lol.

Ps just seen TRD do sound changers which replaces a small plastic pipe for different sound levels. The louder versions have foam removed, maybe this is what acts as a filter on standard car, so surely the red kit with no foam isn't great with no protection?
