Retrofit - Facelift headlights to Pre-facelift model (2014)
benmmellor posted a topic in ICE/Electrical
Hi all - has anyone retrofitted the facelift (2017+) headlights onto a pre-facelift (2014). I have the 8-pin connectors on my so not sure if they just plg and play or if I need to move pins? I'm considering this upgrade as some kind arsehole did a hit a run on my driver side headlight so I need to replace.. I'm not a fan of Valenti's but like the idea of the facelift with '86' in them. Anyone done this before or have access to the pinout listing for the headlights pre and post facelift? -
Mine's due an MOT later this month but I've hardly used it due to lockdown. Going to chuck a bottle of 'cataclean' through it and see if a local place will check it over as a Pre-MOT. It's had the Tuning Developments NA work done so any advice for MOT time? Leave it in MAP1 (?) some people say to drop it to 'Map4'? and get the cat nice and hot before the test (italian tune-up!) etc..

My current DAB aerial is a bit shit at picking up stations - reception is dire on the M6 as well. Current DAB Aerial is a Connects2 CT27UV67 http://www.connects2.co.uk/Product/ProductItem/CT27UV67 Aerial connection at the back of the Pioneer HU is one of these : Connects2 CT27AA130 http://www.connects2.co.uk/Product/ProductItem/CT27AA130 As I've replaced the stock beesting one with a genuine Toyota sharkfin, so ideally I'd like to use a splitter. There seems to be some issue with fitting one of these splitters with the stock wiring as it says not suitable for an amplified aerial.. Is the sharkfin one amplified or not? Can I do any damage if i try and wire up one of these splitters and try it? There's 2 potential FM/DAB splitters - I have one of these already in my spares box > https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/autoleads-pc6-536-car-radio-stereo-headunits-digital-dab-aerial-antenna-splitter.html Or would one of these be an option with a fakra to female DIN as well > https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CT27AA152-PIONEER-Car-Stereo-Radio-Fakra-to-SMB-DAB-Aerial-Antenna-Splitter/352075130306

Where do I stand with this - servicing and warranty - not my GT86
benmmellor posted a topic in Non GT86/BRZ General Chat
Basically in January 2019 we swapped out the wife's Auris SR for a 2014 Qashqai. I was told when i signed the deal sheet that it wasn't due a service until November 2019. Driving back last week from a short break the 'service' message came up on the dash so I rang the dealer to query the service history. The service dept say that they are not aware of it having been serviced since November 2017. Pulled out the service book to check and they have completed a service 'stamp' in the book which shows as being serviced in January 2019 yet the dealer service dept is still adamant thay haven't done it? In the paperwork I have from the transaction, there is checklist sheet for when they took the QQ into stock (in Sept 2018) which details the need for a service in November 2018 If they haven't properly serviced it should I demand that they service it for free and ensure that the warranty is validated? I'm wary of any warranty issues caused by a perceived lack of servicing - especially as we just had to have the AC compressor replaced under warranty without issue. Got to go back anyway as somehow the front camera is now not working since they worked on the AC. -

Well has a result - probably due to the indomitable Mrs M going down to dealers. Ended up with them doing a major service for free due to the cock up. Nice saving of nearly £300! They'll also ensure the warranty is honoured if there are any issues that arise. Winner! -

Couple of funny noises going on.... rear shelf 'buzz' and chirping brakes when 'free wheeling'?
benmmellor posted a topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
Ok I've got a little free time coming up and got a couple of niggles I want to try and sort out. First one is a 'buzz' from the parcel shelf on the passenger side. It's not the same as a hollow knocking noise or the 'popping noise' as per the TSB but is a proper 'buzz' - any ideas? Plan to take off the parcel shelf and cable tie up any cabling under there and also some closed cell foam to see if that reduces or stops the noise. Next noise is the 'chirping' brakes - not the squealing when braking as is 'expected' on stock pads which have already been 'replaced' under a warranty claim. When starting moving or just coasting to a stop I get a cheep-cheep-cheep noise like a pad is catching. This increases in frequency under faster rotation and reduces as I slow to a stop not using brakes. It does stop if I tap the brakes, but then comes back. Very noticeable when stuck on the M6 traffic conditions! -

well thats the annoying squeaks and buzzing gone. Buzzing was the light itself - mainly the underside element beneath the lens. There's 2 legs that should clip into notches inside and these were not hooked in - also added some silentcoat strips to reduce any other buzz. Brakes now seem to be a lot better - been at TD for a service, current pads were down to about 3000 miles left so swapped them to new pads, also they thought one of the rear shields was just catching the disk to that had a little percussive adjustment. drive back was sqeal/squeak and chirp free! -
ok so had a bit of free time to swap out my failed BlackVue power pro for the Viofo one.. spliced it onto the Toyota to ISO loom adapter for now as that has the 3 feeds needed (perm live, acc live and earth). I've also plumped for a Viofo A129S Duo kit so will be swapping that for the current Viofo WR1. I did thin about putting another WR1 in the rear screen but the A129 is based on the well respected A119S and is still small/discrete enough and has a parking mode. Wish i'd fitted it a couple of months ago to catch the dickhead who scuffed my rear bumper in a hotel car partk!

bugger.. even Nissan/Renault manage a combined DAB/FM sharkfin... might be an upgrade to Andrea's Qashqai at some point.. after I fit the focal speaker kits and bumper 'crossover' kit in better weather lol
-
cheers - not really wanting to go back to the Beesting look now I've got the sharkfin.. might just have to try a few DAB options to see what works best for me.. I've had another tinker with another Connects2 aerial which also has an earthing connection onto the pillar metalwork - seems to be an improvement on the quick drive around earlier. Will be testing M6 reception on the way for a service at TD tomorrow.

how much for rear parcel shelf?

Finally had some time at home so spent my lunch break taking the rear shelf out to see if I could figure out what the 'buzz' is between 2k and 3k RPM. Turns out it's most likely the 3rd brake light is the culprit. Short of swapping it out - what have other people done to get rid of the buzz/rattle? I've already packed out under the shelf with foam - but it's not made much difference. -
Used but in great condition. £125 Inc courier costs

nope - there's nothing critical behind that plastic. you should be able to just pull it back out into place as advised above.

Just had my renewal through for February - seems to be going up again... any chance you can look at it and see what's made it so high? -
Phil - it's probably a BS answer... the only potential thing to consider was the issue Toyota had with the early boot struts on the Gen7 that were a bit iffy in lifting properly when you had a spoiler on the bootlid. The released an uprated version IIRC though old Perry190 sorted himself out first as usual! Then again, you and I had Gen6's with battleship steel bootlids which never had an issue with the standard fitted struts.

I looked at the Allegerita's but in the end went for the HYPERGT HLT...

exactly... this works for me and my usual driving needs. The BPB's on their own did give me some more 'oomph' for general road use - the TD NA upgrade was another major game changer and the car is even better now. Chart below: - when i can find a decent image hositng site!!!

Unfortunately TD didn't dyno with just the blocks prior to the manifold and remap. However, the dyno shows the power shift as expected. The benefit is a touch more torque lower down the band. I uploaded a photo of the dyno to the FB page. Will upload it here when I get chance.

I just earthed the green wire means you can work with all the settings e.g. BlueTooth

Will know by the end of the week. Cars in at TD Thursday

I've never used Vantage Preston for the GT86 - bought some bits as needed for the Toyota's I've had. I got put off them when I tried to sort a known warranty issue out on the seat leathers and they were not helping. Rich @ RRG go it sorted quickly. Funnily enough the Transcal guy who was sorting my seat cover on my driveway was off to Vantage that afternoon to sort another GT86 lol. -
Well I've booked in for the work at TD at the end of the month.. will see what the pre-remap dyno run says in comparison to the baseline taken pre-BPB's being put in a couple of months ago... Then it's a case of seeing what the re-mapping makes of the standard TD manifold, overpipe with the BPB''s hence them keeping it a bit longer than a normal remap session.
-
I've got a set fitted and I have noticed a difference in the engine being a bit quicker on acceleration, seems to pick up quicker. I know I've sacrified the very top end of my rev range (at this time) but to be honest how often do you redline when on normal roads. I've got a baseline dyno done at TD, so one of my things to do this month is get booked in for the manifold and overpipe fitting and remap - then I'll have the dyno's to compare the non BPB, with just BPB and then BPB + TD NA kit.
