    BYE BYE 86

After five years of ownership I traded my 86 for a C-HR, apart from being a bit slower, not regretting the change whatsoever, the C-HR is more comfortable and quiet and of course more economical.
  2. Still unsure whether to get this done as so few cars have the valve spring fracture and many more engines have been trashed as a result of the recall work. There is an unconfirmed rumour that majority of the valves springs breaking occurred in the first 5000 miles of the engines life true or not, I don't know. https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/acms/cs/documentList.xhtml?docId=18V772&docType=RCL

What to look for when buying a used GT86/BRZ

Mine didn't come with the metal tag either, didn't even know about it until I saw this thread today, only two years after buying my car😱

Not been to Ronnies, I've been getting mine done at Magic on Monks way but will be back doing it myself when I get the garage sorted after our house move, currently can't lay my hands on anything it's so full up, we downsized after the kids moved out and now we're having a new double garage and side extension, work that one out!!!!

    Steven Eagle Milton Keynes

Took my car to Steven Eagle MK for it's 3rd service and 1st MOT today and I must say they were very good, price was as agreed, car was cleaned, rear view mirror was replaced under warranty with no quibbles, loan car was a brand new Yaris and the the staff were polite and helpful, they were just the same when my car went in for the PS recall, I don't know what others think of them, but from my experience today and for the recall, they were very good, that's my honest opinion, if I had problems with them you lot would be the first to know.

    Steven Eagle Milton Keynes

My mirror wasn't too bad, but it was getting worse, started in the bottom right hand corner and was spreading around all the edges, like I said changed it with no quibbles whatsoever. Can't comment on the sales side as I bought my 86 from a Honda dealer in Chesterfield, but generally I get the right hump with car salesmen/women, they're the new estate agents
  9. I've just got back from a week in Tuscany, our hire car was a Fiat 500L turbo diesel auto, what a truly awful combination, bloody thing was absolutely awful on the twisty roads and hairpin bends, what with the change down and turbo lag on hard acceleration it was like driving a kangaroo on heat😱 Getting back in my 86 on Monday was so Joyous😀

    What service do I need?

Hi guys, as per title, what service does my car require? It's due for it's third service and first MOT, it's done 18500 miles, I ask this cos most of my cars have been much older and I normally do my own servicing, but for warranty reasons I need to keep the service history up to date, so will my car need an intermediate service or a full service? Thanks in advance

    Cheers mate

    What service do I need?

Thanks Lauren, Normally wouldn't let a garage anywhere near my cars, (only because they won't show the same care as I would) but don't want to invalidate the warranty.
  13. Well, given that MK1 Lotus Cortina's are selling for in excess of £50k, genuine two door GT's like mine are fetching about £18k - £20k, this one I've had since 1983, It's had one previous owner and has a genuine 65k miles on the clock and never been welded underneath' they are getting extremely rare now.
  14. I use this for shows in the summer when I fancy a change from the 86

    Winter Tyres

Oh dear, I seem to have opened a wasps nest with my opinion on winter tyres, I'm happy to go without them and those of you who want them then that's fine as well, let's not all fall out over our opinions and play nicely👍

    Winter Tyres

Well, as I say, I've been driving for 43 years in all weather conditions and never needed special tyres, so for me, they seem pointless, but of course you can do what you like, I'm only giving you my opinion of what has worked for me.

    Winter Tyres

The only reason I can see for having 'winter tyres' is to put a crap set of wheels on the car over winter to keep the originals in good nick, I'm 60 years old and have been driving for 43 years and have had no need to fit winter tyres on any car I've owned, experience has taught me to drive within the limits of the prevailing conditions, and that's served me well over the years.

    Advice required

Had a similar situation when we bought a new Renault Scenic (don't say a word, we had our reasons) we signed a contract that said the loan was interest free over three years, when we went to pick up the car they said there had been a mistake and the loan could only be interest free over two years, we stood our ground and they had to back down. You need to be forceful in these situations, I'd hazard a guess that you'll get your way. Goodd luck.

    Trolley Jack

I bought a pair of these. http://www.cjautosheywood.co.uk/adjramp.shtml plus an Arcan trolley jack from Costco.

    Space saver

I bought a 17" space saver from ebay, iirc the 17" and the 18" wheel should have the same rolling radius, so yes I think that would be ok.

    Hello from a Newbie

Good morning everybody, Just joined today and thought I'd introduce myself. picked up my orange GT86 last Saturday, big step up from my Celica SR, really love the car, it's a 14 plate with 10k on the clock, drives like a dream. looking forward to many years happy motoring with it. and having discussions on here. I am also into classic cars and have owned a MK1 Cortina 2 door GT since 1983, so if anyone wants to info on them, I'm your man

    Keyless entry problem?

Thanks guys, that could be it, I was parked in an underground car park at the time and as the spaces were tight, i may have locked the wheel in a different position to normal as I was trying to leave as big a gap as possible between the car next to me, and as I was getting a bit panicky, I might have moved the wheel and not noticed that was the reason the car finally started.

    Keyless entry problem?

Just got back from a tour of Ireland, the roads are made for the GT86, great fun, the car performed faultlessly except for one morning, I opened the boot and stowed our cases and then got in the car, pressed the start button, the dasboard lights all lit up, but the starter motor didn't kick in, instead I got (I think) three long beeps, I tried several times and the same happened, I got out of the car and locked it and then unlocked it with the fob, tried to start the car and the same thing happened again, then pressed the start button again, and the car started and has been fine ever since, did I do something wrong or may I have a problem and has anyone else experienced this? I should say, the car is an auto, thanks in advance.

    Keyless entry problem?

I'm sure it was, now that I'm back home, I'm gonna try and replicate it tomorrow.

    Mpg

Had the car two weeks now, just getting more used to it and absolutely loving it, gets better every day, just done a trip to North Wales and got over 42 mpg, measured brim to brim and didn't rely on the trip computer, both motorway and A roads with local trips while there including some spirited driving, more economical than my old 1.8 Celica.
