    Alps road trip

I get a bit envious of the Europeans for some of the landscape they've got. Also... I think those wheels work well - silver with the silver.

    Benjamin Franklyn's 86

I was using the torque App for android. The same method was showing me mid to high 120s at warmer track days earlier in the summer (before the oil cooler)

    Benjamin Franklyn's 86

I see what you are saying, but I thought that leaving it un-coated might be a cheeky way of getting the oil to warm up quicker in the winter (it's my daily). I also saw that some had figment issues after ceramic coating too. On balance, I'll probably get it coated.

    Benjamin Franklyn's 86

What should I be looking for after I take the wheel off? Or is it just obvious when they've had enough punishment?

Thanks for the video. This is what I've been doing wrong - trying to swivel the heel rather than rolling the foot. Will try that next time.

    Benjamin Franklyn's 86

Just a quick update.......... I had the HKS track spec oil cooler fitted. It did a fantastic job of keeping temps down when I was at bedford last month. Thanks to Scott and @Mark@Abbey M/Sfor sorting that. IIRC around 105c was the highest I saw on track. Because of this, maybe I won't need to ceramic coat any after market manifold I get...... I am considering a manifold more strongly now @DanJ has had issues with his manifold. I'd use the stock catback to keep things quiet. As usual with me, I need some advice from you lot! 1) Can anyone recommend a good YouTube video, or technique for me to learn heel toe. Literally can't do it and really want to learn. 2) How do I know when brake pads are wearing thin? There's a bit of carbon build up in the groves on my front AP racing disks now (there always is with the stoptech rears, but this is new for the front) Cheers!

    Ross' TD Turbo Daily

Exactly this. The M4 is so much more expensive than a turbo/supercharged 86, and as far as the driving experience goes, all you are gaining is straight line speed. Losing a lot of steering feel, lightness, and the playfulness. It doesn't seem worth it to me. Not that I've driven an M4 on track, but I'd say all that adds up to a greatly depreciated track experience. Thats why the M235i is a great shout, because it's not too expensive, will do the commute well, and also some fast/fun stuff.

Glad you found a good replacement for the 86. I actually had a similar impression of the M4 to yours. My commute is also country roads, but only 5 miles of it and no traffic - so the 86 is perfect! Will you be tracking the 235i?

Bite the bullet and get an oil cooler! (Or make one)

AT Power - 67mm Throttle Body - NEW PRODUCT

I wonder if this fits with a Harrop supercharger...... edit: doubt it

    Wanted UEL MANIFOLD

One of the guys on here has got it (can't remember who) - apparently likes it but there is a vibration noise he is 'working with cobra' to sort out.

    Cosworth Supercharger Kit - SOLD

Exactly - I heard the one in that vid blew up. And Perrin had built a really cool twin charge set up (on a FA20DIT WRX) using the Harrop supercharger, water/meth, and the car's stock turbo, which was running over 30psi, but I heard nothing more about it.

    Cosworth Supercharger Kit - SOLD

@TTR I think if you were to twin charge, cosworth is the kit to use due to the cooling capacity. You would certainly want a very low compression build too. However, to have a functioning, track ready, twin charged 86 would be a world first right?

    Why not coast in neutral?

Monitoring VVT / VVT not working

Luke, I don't know if I'm missing something obvious here, but surely it needs to just go back to fensport for Adrian to sort it out?

    Gearbox strength

Why is it better to change slowly? Just for gearbox longevity?

    Gearbox strength

I thought around 400bhp was consensus on the US forum. Quite surprised and worried to hear about these ones on stock power level going.

    TTR's San Remo BRZ

If I turned my 86 in to a track/weekend beast, I would get a fiesta ST or a DS3 to daily. They are comfy, economical, but still with enough poke to go quick (and overtake) when running late.

    TTR's San Remo BRZ

That's awesome. You should keep the BRZ to become the forum's ultimate keeno.
  20. I don't blame you at all for wanting to walk when you are not being fairly treated by dealer.
  21. How much of a test drive did you do in the M4? I took one out the other day and, although faster in a straight line, it felt much more cumbersome and heavy than my supercharged 86. Almost like taking a boat out, because I wasn't really feeling the road.

    Brakes

IIRC the guys selling the Essex kits in the states have been quite open with people about how quickly they corrode with any salt exposure. They simply arnt the right kit for anyone over here unless the car is track only, and even then driving to a track in winter could be problematic. i can second what Ade has said with the AP road kit in that it is flawless on both road and track. No brake fade experienced since the kit went on >6 months ago.

    Brakes

I think these won't be the ones that fit under the stock wheels. I paid a bit of a premium for that.
  24. Bfranklyn86

    Brakes

I can speak very highly of the AP racing ones, as I have them - great for road and track. Regarding the bias, I haven't noticed any difference in handling. Just much much better braking, and no squeal! However you could get the tarox brakes and a new set of wheels for the same price I would expect.

    Brakes

As rob says, this stoptech wont fit without spacers. AP racing designed a BBK that would just fit with stock wheel and no spacers, but they are pricey at 2.2k
