How are you finding that cobra 4-1 manifold? It's quite well priced compared to many manifolds, and U.K. made. And, does it give the UEL or EL sound..... I would expect more EL.

I have a mate who's got an engine build on his Impreza STI 350 from Allan Jeffries and it has been really reliable. I'm not sure if he's done any FA20s though. He keeps telling me to ask him because it 'will be like less than 4K or something' [errm no chance].

Prestige Keep Moving Insurance Scheme
Bfranklyn86 replied to Tim@Prestige's topic in Insurance Companies
Hi there, do you do insurance policies that include a couple of track days a year? -
How do you monitor it with the torque app?
-
Just tell your university that you will be designing an oil cooler for your main assignment! When I was last on track (donnington) it was quite a warm day. Later on in the afternoon I was staring to find oil temps rising to low 120s after just a few laps, so I need to get one if I'm going to do any summer track work. I fee like £800 is too much for one of these (like the harrop, HKS or Perrin ones) - the mishimoto one for £470 could be a better bet.

You should definitely drive the road from the back of Starcross up Holden hill - the bests road in Devon I've found. Please advise if you know other good ones which I'm sure are out there! With mods, I would decide after 6 months of driving if this is a car that you want to keep for the long haul and invest in, or if you think you'll have it for a couple of years then move on.
-
Did you not say that the Flex As had the propensity to get quite rusty though?
-
Well it sounds like it the weight distribution isn't too badly affected by the harrop. But there will also be an oil cooler (+5kg) going on the front too at some stage. Anyone considered mounting the battery in the boot for weight distribution, like BMW do?

I'm joooooking.....! To prove I'm joking, I'll invite you help my with my next suspension set up!!!!!
-
I'd probably ring abbey Motorsport because there's a reasonable chance they were the ones who did the stroker kit and SC install (it was you who runs the stroker kit wasn't it)?
-
I guess the harrop is also a slightly bigger unit than the cosy.

I keep using and abusing this community for advice.......but you've got yourself's to blame for having so much knowledge/experience. I am thinking about how to save a bit of weight on the FRONT end, as I'm soon to install a catback which will upset the weight balance even more than the supercharger already has. (Must be 60:40 on towards the front now) anyone got any experience with..... lightweight flywheel: 5kg Li battery: 10kg front bumper: ?kg An aftermarket manifold...... I'm looking to avoid this for noise reasons. cheers

I've not had any contact or an off track incident. But I keep it in VSC mode and haven't done that many track days. Edit: very sorry it happened to you Paul. Im no expert, but I'd really hope that's not a write off (thank god it's insured). Even it that state your car looks awesome - especially the rear diffuser. If it was me I'd be attempting to blame it entirely on @will300 for changing the suspension....
-
I put new stoptech pads/disks on the rear and it didn't go well for them first track day. You could tell they were melting, changing the colour of the disks and leaving crumbles of carbon in the groove. They seem to be working fine now that's 'out their system' though.
-
Welcome. Can I just ask where you got hold of that rear diffuser..... is it one of those eBay ones? Looks decent.

What should we budget (roughly) for those other two items? what do the offset polybushes do?
-
I think with the stock brakes, yes I was having problems on track even under NA power. However, I've heard that they can be upgraded to perfectly adequate with some not-too costly items like new pads. I went straight for the BBK because I took the power up by 50%, so I wanted to significantly improve the braking too. And, I totally agree with Deacon that you need to take it on track....otherwise you'll be missing out on some of the best fun you can have in it.

Thanks, it's what I was going for! Hopefully it won't change when the exhaust gets fitted.
-
The car looks great! Would be interested to hear how you find the KWs and what you paid for them. Coilovers could be next for me.
-
He told me it was less drony when he listened in the shop. But anyway, I'm aware I may end up getting the helmholtz added in the future.
-
Just an update on this exhaust: The spec L did look nice, but, second hand it is only slightly cheaper than a new h+s system, and I also would prefer to keep the stock tail pipes. I have ordered the following from Hayward and Scott: 2.5", extra large centre silencer with redesigned 'anti-drone' back boxes. I have not gone for the helmholtz at this stage, but crucially there is room to have them welded if needed. £575 +VAT.
-
That is very helpful, thanks. That seems a bit below the noise level some others have recorded.
-
My concern with the HKS is just it may be a bit loud. Apparently it's 91-93db at 5.5k rpm, which would be more for mine as supercharged. This is significantly louder than your system, right? I just spoke to Ian who interestingly said he thought he could achieve the same drone-deletion at low revs by redesigning the shape of the back boxes, rather than using the helmhotz. He said he did it for a customer at the weekend. Offered me a 2.5" system, small centre silencer, and the redisgned back boxes for £550+ VAT. Thoughts?
