Hi everyone, I'm Chris, new to this forum. I've spoken to a few people here on the other forums..... so hi again to some! Ive got the harrop SC kit and an xtreme clutch but no other mods on my gt86. The guys at Abbey did a top job with the install/tune. I'm at a crossroads - I'm very happy with the car in its current form. If I left it like this I would still love doing my DD in it for a few more years minimum. But..........wouldn't say no to even more power. Or better brakes. Or wheels. Or tyres. Or free flowing power generating exhaust set up which isn't too loud. Etc. It would all depend on if it's worth the cash (and if I actually have the cash...) will300 has kindly suggested a personalised £3k upgrade plan to sort me out if I do want to mod this more - wheels, tyres, tein flex z, stoptech sports break kit and a mid-priced EL manifold. but part of me thinks if I'm going to go for it I should 'commit' and do all the above and eventually get an engine build too. Would be more fun than saving for a house deposit like a boring sod and get me places faster (including jail). Anyway.... I'll be dipping in and out of your threads, and am aiming to get to the odd gt86 meet/track day too. cheers, Chris

My Custom Hayward and Scott Cat-Back Design and Proving
Bfranklyn86 replied to Ade's topic in Modifications
You should pop this on FT86 forum too, Ade. People/companies have gone to great lengths to get a catback which is high flow but also livable, and passes noise restrictions. (The ACE/CSG catback as an example). So if you've achieved it then put it out there! -
Other than smudge, what other problems have been reported with the stroker kit?

Keethos' GT86 Journey Back To Health + Mods
Bfranklyn86 replied to Keethos's topic in Projects & Builds
I've been looking at manifolds to potentially try and get a bit more top end performance - from 240 to 260-270whp. On the butt dyno, and on the real one, the car has a bit less towards the top of the rev range. It's still very fast, and only feels that way because of so much mid-range performance........I think a manifold-overpipe-HFC-catback and retune would do the trick, but manifold looking more trouble than it's worth currently. Also if I built the engine and cranked the boost up, a manifold would be required. -
Keethos' GT86 Journey Back To Health + Mods
Bfranklyn86 replied to Keethos's topic in Projects & Builds
I wonder if, with these sound issues and the MOT issues that HFCs are having, it's worth getting a catted aftermarket manifold. Or is that such a restriction that there isn't much point in changing the manifold at all....? -

Thanks for the update, Rob. I'm keeping close tabs on this as I'm after a 'top of the rev range' oriented manifold myself. Hope you get the problem fixed soon.

I get the same noise, it just happens every time I turn the steering wheel from far left back to centre.

Do you and Kieth both have stock mid pipes and cats?

CGR, thanks for taking the time to explain things, much appreciated. i don't quite understand how the collector can be as influential as the runner length/diameters etc in power generation. Is it that the turbelunce created by a poorly designed collector can be quite detrimental? Also, Rob, any dyno results yet?

Haha that's how I've seen it up until now, but it's getting a bit silly now, TRC is constantly involved on my drive through country lanes to work when I'm running late. I also got to (unintentionally) experience toyota's anti spin safety system - it's quite violent (span me back round the other way!!) but an impressive bit of technology.

By transformed do you mean just way more grip? This is what I'm after because right now supercharger + primacies + winter = quite dangerous.

6 trackdays in 2017? Ade you really are an enthusiast.
-
Do you know what power figures your car is putting down?
-
Thanks for that. Roughly what kind of funds (ball park) are we talking?
-
That was good info, thanks Will. looks an OEM oil to water cooler could be the way forward....... as long as people who run these don't see their engine coolant temps going too high on track sessions. @Ade did you notice any difference in coolant temps on track?
-
I just thought potentially faster reving, and, if he didn't short shift, more time spent up the rev range.

Thanks for the responses. I will see what my temps are like on track. Dan do you think your final drive could in some way be increasing the temps? If you do get an oil cooler can you let us know which one you go for. Cheers

I finally got my torque app running yesterday - had a spirited drive in the countryside in an attempt to replicate track conditions [while sticking to the speed limit and being very safe and attentive] but clearly failed to do so: oil temps stayed below 100c and IATs peaked at 14c above ambient. I had spoken to mark about the potential need for an oil cooler if I was tracking more regularly. He told me to monitor temps on track and end the session if they are too high. what constitutes dangerously high oil temps?

This echoes what Ptuning in the states said about seeing more problems with built engines than stock, and why they don't recommend an engine build unless going over 350whp. having said that, I would guess a lot comes down to who does the build and the quality of the components used. If I parted with a large sum of money this coming March when cosworth release their built bottom end, I wouldn't be expecting anything to go wrong anytime soon.

Were they 4-1 headers or 4-2-1? I have been looking at an h&s manifold and catback myself. The catback has a great sound (on YouTube at least) and looks like it was designed with smooth airflow in mind. I am surprised by the amount of people with PD blowers who have gone for 4-2-1 headers, especially as it is mid range torque that people worry will snap the rods. Seems like everyone [exageration] in the states with the edelbrock runs an ACE 4-2-1 header. (p.s Rob sorry for thread hijak)

I'm really looking forward to seeing how this does on the dyno. It looks amazing. do you have the Cobra HFC in the mid section? You can probably hear the jealousy ooosing out of me here, but IMO this manifold is a a bit on the expensive side.... prohibitively so for me. (could get a manifold and catback for the same money from different places!)

I think I might be getting this too. It only happens intermittently though so I'm not sure. lauren, do you think I'd be able to see it by crawling under the car with a torch, or would it need to go up on a ramp?

In my case the warranty has already put in quite serious jeopardy by the harrop supercharger!
