Welcome to the club. Great choice of car and colour. I agree with you about the power, the numbers game is just getting silly now. Pointless having a road car where you could never exploit the performance on public roads.

Recall issued on cars to have valve springs replaced 2012-2013
Gray replied to Lauren's topic in Mechanical
You lucky devil, very nice indeed. Just out of curiosity do you find the throttle mapping different/better than the first gen cars? Reason I ask is I've just swapped my car and the new one seems much better behaved on pull away and at low speeds. Not sure whether it's all in my head or something has changed. -
Pretty sure the code on the metal tag is key number or least that's what the dealer told me. As happyguy82 said the PIN code for the alarm is on some little silver stickers designed to be stuck in either the alarm or owners manual.

Are they still bad for welds after the flexi joint upgrade? Seem to recall a post where Lauren had 4 in 4 years but not sure if pre or post upgrade. Like the sound and assume a non res on a stock motor would come in at sensible db for trackdays

Thanks to all of you for the replies and info. Will give the Miltek a miss, shame as I really liked the sound.
-
After all the problems you have had with this build that's hardly surprising.
-
You appear to be correct Lauren. Took this off the Motorline Toyota site, additional services/parts may be required depending on age/mileage Brake Fluid £50, Fuel Filter £50*, Cabin Filter £45, Diff Oil £50*, Spark Plugs Change Set £65* * Denotes price from dependant on model Look like price hike on all servicing costs. Wonder what the big one will be now?

Trying to find out how the latest Pure Red (M7Y) varies from the old Lightning Red (C7P). Any help much appreciated as thinking of changing my car and don't want to end up with a colour I hate, do stealers not have colour swatches anymore.
-
Thanks for that Kev. Just found out they have 1 in stock at Horsham branch so will likely go and have a look in person next week sometime.

Valve spring recall for pre 2014 cars. Check your VIN on https://www.gov.uk/check-vehicle-recall
-
It says first service 3/19, final service 9/21 so I would think you are right, sounds like a 3 year service plan they are selling.
-
Thinking of changing my 2014 for a new one. Anyone purchased a new GT86 recently who can give any indication of lead times and dealer discounts.

Thanks for that Steve.

Many thanks for the info spikyone

Congratulations, glad you got the tyres sorted. Look forward to miles of smiles, it's a fantastic car that you can really enjoy without risking your licence.
-
Quite right. Hold your ground, they said they would fit Top tyres so that's what you should expect. Not sure where you are buying, Motorline Gatwick? If so I would suggest you check, double check and triple check all paperwork and the car inside and out before you accept the car. I know others have good comments about them but alas my experience was not the best.
-
Motorline Toyota Gatwick (impulse buy) never been back there since. Car had only just come in and hadn't been prepped

Welcome to the drivers club. Great looking car and the best colour.

The alarm is deactivated with the key fob so if you open the door with the emergency key you have to switch the alarm off with your PIN code. Can't understand why the emergency key won't unlock the door again, know it can be a bit fiddly to use.

Who knows (apart from Toyota) what the future is for the 86 but as I see it they are two very different cars. Supra a sort of 2 seater luxury sports GT car with electric leather seats and all the creature comforts, a 4 banger just a poverty spec entry car. GT86 more a back to basics road legal track car (ok needs some readily obtainable mods) designed to appeal to a different sector. Pretty sure you can't get a set of wheels in the back of a Supra. As Toyota have registered the trademark GR86 in Europe (applied 18/9/18 - granted 9/1/19) seems likely we will at least get the chance to buy a new Gazoo version in the future even if that is the last variant. Let's be honest, the days of the ICE sports car are numbered due to emission regulations so we have to make the most of what is available and hang on to them as long as we can.

I think Toyota have poorly marketed the car. It got rave reviews on launch and sold well for a couple of years as niche cars often do but then seemed to disappear off the radar. Only my experience, but I found trying to find a dealer who actually had a car in the showroom let alone a demonstrator hard work, more interested in Aygo, Prius and such. Will be a sad day if they kill it off, I really don't think their is anything quite like it at the price point.
-
No idea how many they expected to sell but according to carsalesbase total sales in Europe were GT86: 2012-2017 Sales 18,224 and last year Jan to Nov 2018 sales of 1,212 BRZ: 2012-2017 Sales 3,126 and last year Jan to Nov 2018 sales of 441 As a comparison MX-5: 2012-2017 Sales 55,149 and last year Jan to Nov 2018 sales of 13,162

Be very sad if that is the case. The Supra seems more of a grand tourer to me with all it's creature comforts like fancy electric seats and what have you weighing it down. I think Toyota said something like they expect it to spend 98% of it's time as a road car, a car you use as a daily. Based on the price of the i6 I assume the 4 pot will still have a fairly hefty price tag and the PH article implies it will be another automatic. Personally I love the fact that the GT86 is a real back to basics drivers car and I enjoy having a manual gearbox and proper handbrake. However, from Toyota's point of view I don't know how much sense a Mk 2 would make. If they only make cosmetic changes there will be complaints it still hasn't got any more power, if they up the performance it likely hits sales of the Supra.

Agree. Would have thought there would have been some sort of anticipated price range say £40,000 to £45,000 or whatever in the same way Honda did for the NSX even though that ended up way beyond the initial guide. Perhaps Toyota think because it has a Supra badge people will just want to own it regardless of price, spec etc. I understand they don't want to reveal all the details and specs yet but to give no indication of price seems crazy.
