Certainly worth getting in touch with them and asking if they'll do anything as a goodwill gesture, given a) the known valve spring issue, and b) the fact that it's only just out of warranty, and inside the 100,000 miles that they would have warrantied. It's not like the life on those parts is time-based (e.g. like rubber hoses that degrade over time); if you'd used your car more inside the warranty period then this would've been very much Toyota's problem. The worst they can do is say no.

Ah if they've gone to a double-DIN that makes sense. Also makes it easier to fit a much better aftermarket stereo though 😉

Do you have a source? I'd be surprised if that's correct; the facelift is barely any different from the earlier cars on the inside. The only thing I could see them changing would be going to double DIN like everyone else uses - I can't believe they'd go from one non-standard size to another. As I posted on the other forum, it's likely to be expensive to buy a new one, frankly better to buy a proper aftermarket head unit if you want it to sound any good.

They ran a mule at the Nurburgring before then - likely to be the car that was seen at the 'Ring in July 2019 (if not an earlier test in April), which was known to be a camouflaged Yaris and had a huge grille. By spy shots I'm not talking about official teasers like the ones from November last year, far from it. I mean some sign that they're well into testing, which you would absolutely expect if they're launching it next year. Given the huge interest and speculation online about the next 86 when there's nothing to show I'd absolutely expect someone to have spotted something being tested by now. The thing about the Yaris is no-one was expecting it so no-one was looking for it. Everyone's looking for the next 86. Magazines and websites will have their photographers staking out Subaru, Toyota, and GR! It would be very tight for a 2021 market launch if they're not testing yet. And no concepts at any motor shows either? If the new one does turn out to be a dog, it could have the opposite effect, making the current car more desirable. I wouldn't be waiting on a "maybe".

He lost me inside 2 minutes. Those renderings on the best car website were made by best car themselves, and as he mentions they've just cobbled together bits of other cars including the current GT86. There's a lot of wild speculation in the video. There haven't been any spyshots of camouflaged cars yet, no motor show concepts, nothing. A March 2021 launch seems pretty unlikely.

Looks interesting - is it a noticeable difference in steering feel? And does it create much NVH?

Always a dangerous game to play though, it could be terrible. It's also at least a year of not having a fun car, potentially. Is 2021 officially confirmed anyway? You'd expect to see some camo spy shots by now if it's less than 18 months away. There hasn't even been a concept shown. They teased us for an age with the Supra.

I'm in Swindon too, and got mine from Fish Brothers. They were OK, just your typical car dealership. No reason to travel further, the only dealership that has a particularly good reputation is RRG in Macclesfield and that's a bit of a trek from here. As @GT86-Ian said, check the price against what you can pay for a new one from a broker (Broadspeed, carwow, drivethedeal). I got a good chunk off mine by just printing out the best deal that I'd found on a broker and telling Fish Brothers that if they matched it I'd buy from them. 😂 I'd agree with the other comments on mileage, as long as it's been serviced then 15k is nothing to worry about.

The reason you don't need a BBK at the rear is that with greater front braking from a front BBK, you'll get more weight transfer to the front - and away from the rear - during hard braking. This reduces your capacity for braking at the rear, since friction force (between tyre and road) is proportional to normal force (vertical load), and you've reduced the vertical load. Up to a point that's not a problem, as long as the car is still limited by front tyre grip under braking you're all good. If you then add bigger brakes at the rear, you'll be moving the rears closer to locking again (in reality, triggering ABS). Contrary to what you might expect, a rear BBK will likely increase your braking distances because you'll become limited by your rear tyre grip and those tyres already had less grip than the front tyres. You'll also increase your chance of binning it on track if you try and trail brake!

Honda couldn't make it work ten years ago. People have got to forget about the S2000 engine. You simply can't make NA engines like that any more.

It's not related to fleet CO2 at all. The FA20 barely scrapes through Euro 6 emissions, which restricts the amount of other pollutants but doesn't have any CO2 limit whatsoever. Technically Toyota could emit as much CO2 as they want with the amount of hybrids they sell, and still keep the fleet average low. The issue is the other pollutants. Subaru/Toyota actually had to recalibrate the FA20 (for the MY16) to make it compliant with Euro 6 - and it's the same reason Europe doesn't get the performance upgrades that other markets got on the facelift. They won't get 240bhp out of the FA24 version whilst making it compliant with future emissions standards. Getting 240bhp is easy, meeting emissions requirements is where they'll struggle.

You can still make NA work, the issue is meeting emissions with high specific output. That's why the FA20 is (allegedly) 100bhp/litre but a NA FA24 would be a good chunk less (<90bhp/litre). The Civic Type R is totally different: it's over 300bhp now, which would've needed a big displacement NA engine. So of course they went turbo! The last NA Type R, the FN2, put out 198bhp. Subaru/Toyota aren't planning to increase the power significantly, and a 2.4 putting out ~215bhp is perfectly plausible. Unless Toyota/Subaru wanted more power (which they've shown many times they don't) or a significantly downsized engine, they will increase displacement rather than using a turbo.

Depends what you're after. Breaker's yard or someone that's replaced their stock interior, probably.

Saying that it will use a different engine is a statement of the obvious though, it's founded on simple facts. If Toyota/Subaru want a car to last through a full life cycle (around 8 years), that car will need a turbo or a different engine running in a lower state of tune just to make the same power as the current car. They simply won't be able to keep using the current engine - or any NA 2-litre - unless they strangle it even further. The FA20 barely scrapes through current emissions standards. Condition is everything. Pick whichever is in the best mechanical condition. As long as the recall has been carried out on the 2012 you'll be fine. For the higher mileage cars make sure the spark plugs have been changed at the 60k service. Whilst the cars were improved every year, the biggest update before the facelift was probably for the MY16 cars (build dates from mid 2015), which got better suspension. Most of the other changes were fairly minor, IIRC.

Don't know whether 70mm will fit but I have a Kicker HS8, which doesn't fit under the seat so it's in the passenger footwell. The internet suggests the HS8 is roughly 80mm deep.

Lucas will be able to get them, if they're still available. I don't think they were listed on the website when I bought mine either. The price including shipping was the same as buying from Japan. Sounds like a nice list of mods you have planned I have a BBK and coilovers sitting in my garage that will be fitted when we can go out driving for fun again. Tuning Developments usually have a Black Friday deal on the NA kit if you can cope with being patient for that!

I fancied the fatter wheel too so can fully understand that, there's a guy running them on a grey car in the US and they look perfect - this is from the ft86club.com forum: In the end I decided to stick with function so went with the 8.5 to keep a sensible tyre size.

Have a word with @Lucas@PartBox Maybe try some other owners club forums as well. Older WRXs have the same fitment as our cars, as do a lot of VAG cars. That's probably your best chance of finding a used set.

Mine are 18s on PS4, I find it far more responsive than it was on the Primacies, also feels like the ride quality is better. I'm not a great driver by any stretch though so it could just be placebo.

I love the Aygo! Mk1 more than Mk2, it's just a go-kart with headlights and a roof. Yeah, you have to a use the engine, but that's half the fun. Wheel in each corner, chuckable and light, and if you keep the revs up they're a blast.

I've used both japanparts and Nengun and would happily recommend either. I had a problem with my Nengun order - absolutely not their fault, but their customer service was excellent.
