I think you'd have to drive it Ade. I certainly couldn't tell from your's as the grip dominated really. FWIW having driven cars with a 6/6kg setup tend to understeer more than the 5/6kg setup. Rob you should definitely go 2 degrees negative up front.

It's a difficult one as the best way to have problems with aircon is not to use it, though that could have been the previous owner. I've had mine on constantly for 90K+ miles and it's just as good as it ever was. I never turn it off. But I hope you manage to get it sorted under warranty as it's expensive refrigerant.

It must be your driving styles. I do appear to be light on everything apart from rear tyres for some reason.

No, 225 is too wide for the meagre 7" rim. Will result in a taller sidewall due to the increased width proportional to the profile which will make it worse. Don't do it. Wear wise, I go through three sets of rears to one set of fronts. So 7K for the rears and 21K or so for the fronts. I don't rotate my tyres.

We've previously met up in a pub in Lymm at the Jolly Thresher for food and a chat. Could re-instate that? I was talking to Richard on Sunday and looks like we'll get a curry meet sorted now we're getting into the season.

That's a good deal on the track insurance to be fair. Also a good quote. Mine never seems to go under £600, but it has 30K miles insurance and a lot of that is business. Ironic that this year I've done hardly any due to working locally.

I've got a well sorted car for sprinting, been doing sprinting in it for three years now. Urmston is 15 minutes from Heald Green. Pop over, will give you a ride if that helps? Just a tip, though I hit the bar in the afternoon, I stop around 8pm, sober up till 10pm, then go to bed. Sorted. Nobody can use 16's in the TSS, due to regs. So I haven't seen it no. Light 17's are just fine really.

It's a real shame you can't do over night stops. That's what makes it, really. A nice afternoon in the bar, plenty of banter and then dinner for about 20 of us, makes it a great social. Where are you based?

1. Tyres definitely. Sport cups won't be in the 1a list. Super sports are though. 2. Stoptechs are not that expensive and work fine. No squeal either. 3. You can fit Tein Street Advance, they use the stock topmounts. 4. Yes, obviously! 5. Yes you could do, but will compromise your cruising ability a little. Seems to make first very short. 6. Manifold and remap, yes, do this. But have the decency to change your exhaust. 7. Yes, 17x8 on stock tyre sizes works very well. Forged wheels are the way forward. 8. Why don't you just enter the TSS? You can have pillowball mounts on your suspension then. You also get the benefit of competing against the rest of us.

Let me tell you the bell dinging away whenever you go over 100 km/h becomes incredibly annoying after only a short period of time. It's removed from my AE86. Thankfully one of the previous owners had already got to it, before I did.

The annoying 'bell ding' (if that's the right term?) was nothing to do with the AE86, it was fitted to all JDM cars at that time, to warn you should you exceed 100km/h which is the speed limit there. They don't fit it to JDM cars anymore, thankfully! I also seriously doubt the rev limiter light has anything to do with the Legacy. I'm not sure whether the clock is a retro touch or not, really.

Whiteline gearbox bush is around £40 and takes ten minutes to fit.

The first three cracked on the weld to the backbox. Replaced under warranty. The HFC will not help, so that is a factor. I've still got my primary cat so it's perfectly acceptable in that respect.

That's interesting as I've run a non-Res Milltek from the point of delivery for my car for the last 90K miles. 80 of those have been with a decat and overpipe. There's no droning on a constant throttle and I've taken over the continent four times now. So I'm really surprised you feel that it drones. I think maybe you should have given it longer? On cruise control for example you don't hear it at all really. It's only when you accelerate that you will hear it a little. I'm not convinced exhausts quieten really after time. It may be hard to tell though as I'm on my 4th Milltek! But had the current one on for 20K miles or so. It's a fair bit quiter with the extra silencer, so maybe that is a way forward for you?

No. It's a very basic clock that is not configurable.

It's nothing to do with suspension geommetry as such, it's just a conservative offset. I can see no good reason, other than Toyota wanting to ensure the wheels are under the arches and there is no possibility of the wheels hitting the arches etc and I suppose there are things like snow chains to consider.

It was mainly down to spring rates, Don. I didn't want it too stiff. As it turns out a 6/5kg spring rate is more than stiff enough. Tein were recommending higher spring rates on the Flex. Also it's a road car, it's too old for the track really.

This is the last part of my rebuild of my AE86. Back in August 2012 I melted a piston on the way back from Germany. This was the second time this had happened and it turned out I had a faulty injector. So, I decided to get a good friend who is a bit OCD at this stuff and a professional engineer who designs presses for car manufacturers to rebuild it for me. My friend, Tom is perhaps a bit over qualified and he does like to take his time, but really he was the perfect man for the job. Here are some pics of the rebuild: Here you see the mismatch between the valve pocket and the seat. Inlet port blended to pocket: A bit of elbow grease required: Head in the sink! All cleaned and ready to go: On the right is the modified inlet ports on Cylinder1. Cylinder 2 is yet to be done: Engineers blue used to check valve seat: Exhaust ports done: Deburring water gallery edges: Head faced: Surface finish of fully cleaned valve: Flatness of head face checked with perfectly flat bar: Part re-assembled head: Looking good! Shim clearances: HKS 264/256 cams: You can see the HKS stamp and duration if you look carefully: Checking clearances: A bit like the Krypton factor. All of the shims laid out. Just need to work out where to put them all! All done: So today, I thought I had better make a start on putting it back together. I've already got an inlet manifold gasket on order from Toyota. Will pick that up tomorrow and also order some injector seals as the ones on it look worn. Today, I decided to make a start and try and work out where everything goes. After eighteen months it's a bit of a challenge finding all the right bolts which are thankfully bagged but not all marked up. Also had some fun working out how the ancillary brackets and block strengtheners go on. I got there eventually. There is obviously a lot to do, but given the engine is built, it's really a matter of putting everything else back together so the engine and gearbox can go back in.

I had a courtesy car when mine was done, but I did have a service and tyres at the same time.
