    Just renewed Toyota breakdown cover...

I changed mine, because they will only recover you to the nearest Toyota dealer which has severe limitations. Went back to the AA and just pay the extra for Euro cover when I need it. At least then I can get recovered to the dealer of my choice.
  2. As others have said, unless there's a reason why you have to drive an auto, a manual is far better suited and you'll have better control of course. There are plenty of cars around, wait for a manual it's a no brainer. For drifting the lack of a clutch to kick isn't the issue. What will be an issue is, if you want to try and hold a drift and change up from second to third. The auto does not shift up quickly. You also won't be able to dip the clutch when you use the handbrake. Whilst you can pull the handbrake in an auto, it will disengage the torque converter, so when you get back on it, the response won't be quick enough. I think unless you are trying to prove a point, give up with the idea of drifting an auto.
  3. The best thing for you to do if you want to get into drifting is to do a drift day and learn the techniques. I've had some tuition and it was very useful. What I would say is that drifters don't use automatics. It's not a 'semi-auto'. It's an automatic gearbox with manual control when you put it in manual mode. I have driven an auto on track not for the purpose of drifting. I found the response okay, apart from things like upshifts being slow, but that doesn't matter for drifting. The torque converter does seem to lock up okay. Is there is a slight lack of response compared to a manual coming on and off the throttle? Well perhaps. The gearing is longer in the auto which doesn't help but doesn't mean you can't do it. It's one thing doing slow speed 'drifts' in first gear and the like, but drifting is about at least 2nd gear and 3rd gear drifts. I think the longer gearing will be a little hinderance but like I said, it doesn't mean you can't do it. You could change the final drive to help. I'm not sure whether doing such things in an auto will cause any issues with the auto box. It does seem prone to having issues when being abused, though most of this seems related to forced induction and the auto box. I guess the unknown thing is that as nobody uses an auto for drifting we don't know if it is a problem or not. That said, it might not be an issue. Have you any experience of drifting or driving on track?
  4. Forget the auto, it will be crap for drifting. Has to be a manual.

    Smudge's supercharged V8 build

Talking of weight, any ideas how much it will add in comparison to what went before? Was trying to work out if the block was cast or alloy.

Can't believe you lost the AC though. I don't own cars without AC, totally essential, especially in a car with a dark colour.

    Any Japanese Speakers?

Speaking is one thing, but what you're asking is for someone who can read it!

    Finished Wing

When I first heard about it, I was horrified, but it really has grown on me. I think that's is something different and not amongst the general stuff that people seem to do to their cars is a good thing. Ginger is the hardest colour to contrast with another too. Less ginger is always a good thing. I might stick some more red bits on mine.

    Big or small reg?

I've gone for the RRG black frame on the GT too.

    The Wheels Thread

I expect there will be too much sidewall flex, so it will lose sharpness in respect of direction changes.

But will all that power, will it make the overall gearing too short? Also with a diesel box, the ratios won't be close together so changing the final drive won't change that as such. I expect you've done all the calculations though.

    Big or small reg?

@Ztox get a 12x6 one it will look so much better and is the correct size for a Japanese plate. Got this for my AE86 which is obviously setup for a Japanese plate being an import. Best pic I could find at short notice: AE86 lives by Lauren Blighton, on Flickr

Just a thought, but why change the final drive? Is it to help the diesel box gearing?

    Big or small reg?

Easily the smaller one. Top one is terrible.

    Hello

LOL. Certain red wheels of the right type are likely worth a second or so. Bring it on, Sam.

    Hello

Welcome aboard. If you want to find out which colour is the fastest, enter the Toyota Sprint Series. Currently it seems to be white.

Good stuff, out for the next sprint then to christen it?

The GPS is just for speed where it adjusts the damping stiffness according to how fast or not you are going. This setup does not do lateral and longitudinal g-force, so it's just three fixed settings rather than being active.

I think you need experience to set it up to your requirements, though you could just nick my settings like everyone else has. You need the Pro system though to have the adjustability, so I'd be careful of going for the cheapest set up (whatever that is) as it will not have the same level of adjustability. With the EDFC Active Pro, you have quite a range of adjustment and a number of presets, all of which are set by programming the system and then saving your settings and choosing which one you want for the scenario you need. However, a good road setup, doesn't need much tweaking to turn it into a good track setup, you just have to understand it really.

Yeah, really sorry, Steve. I've had a bonkers week at work with a nasty cold, so feel like I just need to lie down! But, if you're in town, you should check out the Northern Quarter if you fancy funky and quirky restaurants. It seems to be the cool place to be at the moment. You may bump into Johnny Marr in the tea rooms. All away from the pretentious stuff around the Town Hall. The Old Monkey is a great little traditional Manchester Pub if you want a bit of peace and quiet, but there are tons of places around. Was only there Thursday night for a gig. Enjoy my city.

Good stuff. I would say the Flex A's if you can stretch to it. Any plans to go EDFC?

The problem I have is that it would be a 50 minute round trip to pick you up and bring you to Wilmslow and the same again on the way back. I can't fit four people in the GT or the AE either. I think it will cost you a lot of money in a taxi! So I'm not sure what to suggest really.
