I would guess the big tyres will add weight, but yes, not bad for such a big wheel in terms of lightness. That'll be a lot of grip if you go for sticky tyres I reckon!
-
It'll be interesting to see what you make. Mike has the two previous runs I had on his system, so I will be able to easily compare where hopefully we will make gains. We already know I've got a strong engine as it's made more power than other cars that have been remapped even without a remap, so I'm dead interested to see if there's much more to come. I shall know soon!
-
I look forward to seeing your helmet, I do hope you've polished it.
-
LOL. I fully expect you have gone and done something, knowing you!
-
Wow, some serious work there! Looks like a good spec to me. So, what wheels and tyres are you going for? You'll see some improvement from decent tyres and lighter wheels.
-
LOL, Kev! I think I'm a little way behind you in terms of modifications! Got to give myself a fighting chance now you've gone all serious.
-
I got Richard at RRG Macc to have them made up for me, to match the wheels. I had them done the same as the optional stripes you can spec as I had black side stripes specced when I bought the car.

Okay I've finally bitten the bullet and booked my car in for a remap at Tuning Developments for 20th March. Felt it could do with a treat in time for the opening round of the TSS, will be very interesting to see how I get on. Reckon I had a date booked within two minutes of messaging Mike! How's that for a speedy response? Also ordered a pair of Yoko V105's so I can lose the Contisport Contact 5's currently on the rear in time for the TSS too.

Hi Simon, welcome aboard. I think we need more pics!

Welcome aboard Nemo. I am sure you are going to get plenty of questions about that rear wing. There are a good number of members around the SE area, so plenty going on. Keep an eye on the events and social meets.

That's cool, but might be better to edit the title to reflect where and what it is.

That's a narrow rim for a 235.

I'm working round Wythenshawe, Mike and the roads are dreadful, potholes everywhere. It's like some kind of wheel abuse!
-
That's a pretty mad gearstick!

Speak to Richard at RRG Macc, he can get Yoko V105's at a good price.

With my Primacy tyres, including a track day where I did a fair bit of drifting I managed 14K out of the rears and 25K out of the front. Obviously if you're just driving around on the road, you'll get more than that out of the rears than I did.
-
Wow top work and top commitment to top draw parts. There seems to be quite a difference between front and rear spring rates, making the fronts seem pretty low on spring rates, 5kg front and 7.34kg rear. It's interesting because most run 6/6kg and I run 5/6kg. I would guess that your setup makes the car quite pointy, how do you find it? 240bhp on a remap, I see you have a manifold as well, but that seems pretty high to what most seem to achieve. Was that on the rolling road? I still can't make my mind up as to whether a remap is worth it. I know others with a very similar spec to your's are seeing as high as 218bhp, but not 240bhp.
-
It's not vastly different in all honesty. I notice it when I've put on stock wheels with winter tyres, but I prefer the upside of lightweight wheels as the car feels more alert and just simply sharper and more agile.

My AE86 is fully loaded, as it's a GT-Apex so top of the range. Has power steering and aircon. It comes in at 970kg according to the shipping weight. In terms of losing a little bit in regard to ride quality with lighter wheels. There is that, but it's not a big difference. I am also able to adjust my damping rates via my EDFC in regard to that which helps of course. I still, though prefer the advantage of lightweight wheels even if I only reap the benefits 5% of the time, I'd still take that every time. In the TSS it's my best advantage as I'm one of the very few without a remap. At the other end of the scale at Blyton Park last year, Kev ran with 255's on 9.5" heavy rims, his wheel weights were quite a lot more than mine. Whilst I accept that part of his problem was not being able to get heat into such massive tyres over one lap, I was 3.2 seconds faster which is a huge amount in sprinting over a 1.14 lap. So the advantages were very apparent when comparing lightweight wheels on stock tyres to very heavy wheels on very heavy tyres if that makes sense.
-
2-3 seconds is actually a lot IME. In fact it's a huge amount! I switched from stock to lightweight wheels and I think it makes a big difference to how the car feels. The advantages are everywhere. The only slight downside is that heavier wheels seem to give a better ride, but that's it.
