    Pinking type sound

Calm down, Nigel, a turn of phrase, that's all. About the worse thing you can do though is labouring the engine.

    Pinking type sound

Can you give me an example, because it will rattle the bottom end if you floor it at 2000rpm in fourth as an example. Just trying to understand.

It's not particularly likely to be the fuel used. The car can run on 95 RON (though I've never tried it myself) Though Super is a must really with V Power Nitro being your best option.

Hmm, shouldn't do, but without sound or a video clip it's hard to know. What fuel are you using?

    USB in the 86

Just go the audio specialist route, it's a no brainer. It's not like it's going to void your warranty or anything. Sat nav (given any decent head unit will have it) is worth considering if you're going to do any big trips in the car, makes like a lot easier. Or if like me where I work all over the country, it's essential.

Or just got to a car audio specialist and buy a unit via them and get them to fit it. I did this, though I had everything replaced and don't use anything from the stock system. Then you can get sat nav etc as well. The beauty of the stock layout is that it's easy to put in any double din head unit you wish.

Chris you should add the A686 Penrith to Hexham. The A68 over the borders to Jedburgh is good too.

    Cosworth exhaust fitted

Cool, I found there was a lot of resonation at high revs in the Cosworth demo car when I went in it, but I suspect it's fine at cruising speeds. Just so you know, you can go through the cameras at an indicated 77mph on the speedo and you'll never get a ticket, translates to about 71.5mph or so which won't set a camera off. So no need to cruise at a true 61mph or so.

RWYB Santa Pod - Sunday 28th Feb 2016

So it's like the starting point for a sprint then, when you launch it off the line. That's it though. I always think drag strips are for those who cannot drive as there's really very little skill beyond some clutch control at the start.

Anyone up for an epic adventure? 9th-13th April

It's a driving event! I seriously doubt Chris is going to cycle all that way! The only thing is, I'm guessing for Chris it has to be in school holidays, I'm slightly worried about increases in traffic, as opposed to before the Easter holidays. But if we can all go as a group that would be cool as I was thinking of sorting this anyway. I have driven most of this route before, though not for ten years or so, would love to get back up to the Highlands. The route from Mellness to Ullapool is a real highlight.

Is this the same route EVO used for ECOTY? Looks like it. I am thinking about doing the same around the same time. :)
  13. Well, more negative camber (and trust me you want that for handling) will point the tyre in at the top of course.

    newbie from Scotland with AE86

Hello Callum, great stuff on finding one and welcome! I do remember you saying it was a bit of a project, the first car you had. Trueno coupes certainly seem to be all the rage at the moment, I look forward to seeing it at events. What's the spec, looks original engine wise. :)

    My 86 Aero

Work Meister S1's, in 17's I'm guessing. It is in desperate need of lowering though I agree. I think they'll look great when you sort the ride height out. Got these wheels on my AE86. Good to see you got some proper JDM wheels too.
  16. Mine has Tein Street Flex on it. If it's any help, I picked up my wheels secondhand and got them refurbed. They are genuine forged Rays wheels, so very light which makes a big difference to how the car feels. All in with a refurb cost me £830. They just don't come up very often, so it was a case of waiting a while for me.
  17. And are totally unnecessary if their only purpose is to remove rain when sat in stationary traffic when it's raining.
  18. When I say my car handles well, I do so from experience. I've tried the stock wheels and tyres, my current wheels with stock tyres, also with Yoko Advans on 225's, but I disliked the sidewall flex and felt that there was a bit too much grip to allow me to adjust the balance of the car as I wished. So I went back to stock tyre sizes on Yoko Advans, giving a very small amount of stretch which took the necessary flex out of the sidewall. This allied with less overall grip, gave a better balance. I like my car to be able to move around so I can adjust the angle of the car into and through a corner. I will admit to enjoying the odd drift on occasion. I have done 77k miles in my car, mostly on roads all over Europe and also on the track competing in the TSS.
  19. 17x8 on stock tyre sizes. Wheels are Volk Racing TE37's. Offset is 38mm. My car seriously handles on this setup. Okay some help from the Tein Street Flex coilovers too.
  20. The point nobody has noted is that because the angle of the rear screen is shallow and it's not a hatcback, the rear screen does not get dirty. It's the boot rear panel that gets all the filth. On a hatchback, the more upright the screen the dirtier it gets which is due to the aerodynamics, so you need a rear wipe. On a coupe you do not not need a rear wiper as the rear screen does not get dirty driving in rain.

Christmas breakfast meet - 29th November

You're welcome to pop in for a breather if that helps, Keith? I'm an hour from Blackburn.
  22. It might be more appropriate to blame Toyota! On the occasions when it rains significantly and you are sitting in traffic going nowhere, rear visibility through the rear screen is not really a safety concern. You could use your side mirrors if you want to look behind you. If you had a rear wipe would you use it to constantly check it's still the same car behind you?
  23. If you're stationary in traffic, your view out of the rear is not that important, just use your side mirrors. Rain clears off the rear screen at speed.
  24. I never felt my pull cord really worked, but I just use the lever on the rare occasion I need to get into the back.

    Bedford trackday 29th Feb

I've driven the West Circuit for testing years ago. This is the layout EVO tend to use. That in itself is pretty short but the GT circuit is actually pretty long. The GT circuit I've never driven. Obviously it is flat as an airfield.
