Great idea. Enjoy. Did a similar thing when we were in Japan last year. Got to be done.
-
Good effort, but what a PITA split rims are.
-
I do like the idea of Project Mu, it was something I saw a lot of whilst in Japan. Difficult to find a UK supplier. See Nengun do them for £90, plus shipping, plus processing and plus VAT and a wait of course.
-
Yes, they are expensive, new, well they are around the same cost as any premium tyre I find. All UK GT86's (except Aero and TRD) are fitted with them, so it's really common for people to swop them out because they don't like them for something else, or change their wheels as a lot of people do. So there are normally a fair few sets floating about cheap.

Primacy's are really cheap I find, because there's always someone selling a part used set for peanuts. They last forever too. I got 14K out of the rears of my first set and 25K out of the fronts. That's pretty good considering I spent a couple of trackdays going sideways. There'll always be people who want to swop out the Primacy tyres, so worth looking up who's got a set spare for sale. My thing about better pads has nothing to do with stopping distances, it's all about lasting a bit longer before they catch fire.

As I've already said, free pads means I might as well try them. As I've already said I'm easy on brakes. I tried a gripper tyre but thought it gave too much grip so went back to the Primacy. The Primacy is certainly not a weak point. It's about balance for me. I like to work the chassis.

If you're anywhere near Wrexham, Demon Tweeks has a good showroom.

Nice work, Nigel!

I've been down to RRG today, mentioned to Richard to look out for you, should you pop in.
-
About £300 a set, Keith.

Totally CBA with that in all honesty. I like to drive to the track, put in a pre-programmed suspension setup on the EDFC which takes about five seconds, then drive round the track all day, revert to road suspension settings and drive home. The stock brakes do okay on sessions of no more than ten minutes but struggle at 15 minutes. I only do long sessions like that when it's a club track session at a show like Combe this Saturday. For sprints it matters less.

I thought the OEM pads made a fair bit of dust. Always really shows on my shiny red wheels. Well, they're free, so I'm going to give it a go.
-
Tell you what, I'll take that offer if it's okay Kev. Happy to pay shipping of course. Think I'll run Stoptech on the rears see how I go with that. Can always try the Z ones next time. Kev if you're at Japfest or Supercar Siege perhaps I can pick them up then?
-
The thing is I must have pads that work from cold. My car is a daily driver all year round and I tend to do a lot of mileage. Kev, have you got pads for all four wheels? Let me know know what you want for them. Steve I'm not sure I want motorsport pads. 99% of my driving is road driving. Are the Z rated the ones I want then for the front? But is running a harder pad on the rear going to be suitable? I'm guessing the rears don't do so much.
-
Cheers, Steve, any idea on price?
-
Okay, duly noted, Steve. Hadn't heard of them myself, but then again I don't have a Porsche.
-
It will be the Aero Kit model of the car.
-
Well, yes, that's my thinking, Jamie.
-
It was the green one which are just fast road. Totally useless when cold.
-
I'm very easy on brakes, getting around 40K out of the OEM ones. I don't know who 'Performance Friction' are, so I won't be getting them. I wouldn't touch EBC with a bargepole, had them before, terrible when cold. Heard good things about Stoptech, but no idea on their durability. I also don't get the point of aftermarket discs (they are not called 'rotors' btw) as a disc is a disc, so OEM is likely the best bet really. Thought about the Hawk pads as had them in the past on my DC2 and they were very good.

There's a great scene around Macc with RRG, so you're very well sorted there! In fact, I'll be popping into see Richard this morning. Great service.
-
Don't get me wrong, it's okay if you've never been on track before type thing. But decent instruction in your own car on track is the way to go I think.
-
Cheers, I'll have a think. What pads would you offer?
-
Thanks, Rob. Sounds very expensive so I will give that a miss I think. Thinking stock discs and uprated pads.

It's because instructors see you as 'billys', which is short for 'silly billys'. So they don't allow you to get anywhere close to getting into trouble or exploring the limits. Far, far better to go out in your own car so you can really learn I would say.
