They look good to be fair. I just slum it with the stock wheels over winter as I never clean them, reckon you could get away with that with your's too.
-
My plugs will need changing at my 60K service I'm on 52K+ at the moment. Service cost is £500 for that one. Whilst I appreciate it makes some sense to put these holes in, given the longetivity of the plugs, it doesn't make that much sense unless you're going to be changing them a lot more often.
-
Yeah, I was worried about it. To be fair Mark has a lot of stuff stored at the other end of the container and he wants to keep his stuff dry too, so we went halves on the dehumidifier.
-
Nothing wrong with leaving it standard. I think it's always good to get to know how the car feels in stock form so you can work out if you want to change anything.

It's sealed, Nige, being a shipping container. There is definitely a risk of condensation. so we've had dessicant hanging for the last month. Some sealing on the roof where the lights are is needed, but that will be done. We will also have power shortly and we have a dehumidifier designed to work in low temps which will go in there, so it should be okay. We got this dehumidifier: http://www.dry-it-out.com/ruby-dry-amber-dry-dh600-dehumidifier

Well, the car drove for the first time in over two years, albeit round the yard to the contained where it's going to live to see out the winter. It started easily enough, everything working okay. I admit, I did a couple of doughnuts in the yard, only to be requested to do a few more by the guys over other side of the yard who service trucks. So I did a few more. 8) To be fair they did give me a hand to get it into the container, though I turned down the offer of using a forklift! Thankfully we found some bits of plate steel lying around and used them as ramps to get it in. Was actually quite easy. Outside the workshop for the first time since August 2012: The evidence for testing an AE86 does what it's supposed to do: And finally in the container:

Hi Lars, welcome aboard. I hope we can catch up for a Euro meet next year.
-
Yep, handbrake is good to be fair.
-
You may be able to get that repaired. I know Alec had a nasty scrape on his which was done by the touch up (not sure if that is the correct term!) guy. I've had some minor scrapes repaired on mine. Price under £200 I'd say though I can't see the other side in your pic.

Thinking about it though if you put more bias to the rear, you could make the car less stable which will of course help to bring the rear into play.
-
Looks like quite a bit of duration on the cam profile. Do we have the stock cam specs for duration and lift?
-
You can trail brake just fine with the stock brake setup. The car oversteers easily enough if you trail brake into a corner, using the weight transfer to unload the rear.
-
It's the weight transfer you want, which loosens the back end to get the car sliding on the way in. As an example I had a JDM DC2 which had had a big disc and caliper upgrade on the front, but the rears were stock. The bigger brakes I felt helped get the weight to transfer to a greater effect which helped over steer when used in conjunction with trail braking. This of course is essential for a DC2 as it's how you drive it. If I upgraded the rears to match it would have made the situation worse. I guess in essence, cars and bikes are different!

Yep, that's it! I'm sure you can get pads that will fare better than the stock pads. It's just as an all rounder they are fine if you don't do long track sessions. Personal preference and all that. I did look at Project Mu as I know they do good pads. As I'm sprinting stock pads and discs are fine.

I'm not really sure what you are disagreeing about? I never do more than ten minute sessions on track. The only exception being the allocated 15 minutes we had at Lydden Hill this year, where my brakes were smoking, but at that point still working fine. So I wil reiterate my earlier point that if you stick to around ten minutes at a time on track then the stock pads are absolutely fine. I think the standard pads are 'proper' pads plus I managed nearly 40K miles on them including a number of trackdays and sprints and 11 passes of the Alps! So in that respect they are very good indeed. I wonder how long these aftermarket pads will last?
-
Cheap option is to do shorter on track stints. Stock discs and pads will take a 10 minute track session no problem. 15 minutes and they smoke. That's what I do.
-
What did you change them to just out of interest?

I hope it keeps you dry.

225 isn't great on a 7" rim, the rim isn't wide enough. 225's will make it boring IMO, I ran 225s all this year for sprinting. Tons of grip, not much fun really. I should add that most will prefer more grip it's only me that is slightly deranged. For 225's keep the 45 profile. As for insurance, well you may want to check.

The car will react more sharply. That is it will turn in more positively. You may notice that the transition to oversteer will be quicker but that is more dependent upon having a better turn in. It won't affect traction per se.

I drove Maz's car recently and I have to say Version 2 is a huge improvement over his initial setup. The mid range is stronger than I remembered it from the first time and it went banzai over 6K which I really enjoyed because you can really wring it out. I admit, I like this setup because although it doesn't match the lazy torque of the turbos that you have to work it a bit is no bad thing. It feels like a 3 litre NA which is great as it feels very adjustable. I really like accurate throttle control and I feel this is easier to achieve with a supercharger. I've driven a decent amount of turbos too and they are undoubtedly impressive but I think the throttle control is more accurate with the supercharger, almost as good as an NA.

Tarmac sports blue upper strut brace for sale

I think it might have been easy enough for you to put the pics up here! -
Now I've had the winter tyres on for nearly a month, I've actually grown to like them. It's a lot more fun than the sticky Advans and I can steer the car on the throttle far more. For the most part I just edge the car a bit on the rear with sport mode on, but it's far more playful which you just can't do with wider and stickier tyres on. So, with this in mind, I've found the car to be a whole load more fun to drive again. I think I'm going to go back to a new set of Primacy's on my TE37's when spring comes round and ditch my part used Advans. I had an absolute ball with it last year, then I put the Advans on and well really the fun just stopped. Sometimes less is more.
