Toyota Oulton Park track day

Was fun watching the vid Alec. Every lap I had to go slow through Lodge because I was worried about getting too much tyre squeal and another black flag! -
Toyota Oulton Park track day

What a brilliant day! Turned up with Richard, he spoke to the nice man at Toyota and I was on. Had a fab afternoon tyre and supension testing and given a few passenger laps. Yes I got black flagged in the first session for too much tyre noise. Sounds a bit weird that they don't allow squealing tyres but I get the impression that my only option was to slow down really. Once I purposefully took a few of the corners slowly but still pushed through my favourite ones like Old Hall, they seemed to accept that and I was alright for the rest of the day. It was good to go out with Alec. Good technique but you should learn to heel and toe: http://www.mr2.net/trackdayqueen/heelandtoe.htm I said to him about not using enough track and then he takes Richard out and does a 720 through Old Hall. I heard it from the pit lane! Overall a brilliant day and I met a fair few new faces, all great fun. A massive thanks to Richard for twisting my arm. -
They look great to be fair. Do it! How much are they?

It's nice to hear that you are getting reasonable mpg. I will get a remap at some point, but I don't think I will be flicking through maps, so I'm intersted in how your mpg is affected when in the performance map. What about how it goes like though? Did you map it on Tesco Momentum? Adrian reckons that Shell is the way to go for maximum advance. I use little else, I admit. Nice day for a track day.

I'm taking it, your car won't be getting any faster now you have a wedding to pay for.

A bit of a PITA getting that stuff out, but a good price for that to be fair.

Back to RRG Macclesfield this morning for my 40K service, though I'm actually a little early at 38,850 miles. Richard noted that my pollen filter was really badly clogged. This was due to be changed as well anyway. I also had a set of Yoko Advan Sport V105s fitted in time for the next round of the TSS at Woodbridge. And on the car: I must admit, I've really enjoyed the Primacys. I'm quite keen to see what I make of these, time will tell of course, but at least I'm on the same tyres as Stan which are 'Y' rated so extra load with the theory being they will have a stiffer sidewall than the X rated tyre of the same type. I also had my discs and pads changed. Dave very kindly donated is part worns to me which had seen 14K of service and are about 10% worn on the pads which is brilliant and saved me a penny or two. Thank you Dave! I also had the brake fluid changed just because the car does a lot of miles and track work. Whilst I was there I had a small repair done to the rear bumper where I managed to reverse into a post at Sainsbury's a couple of weeks ago. My own stupid fault but at least it's fixed now. As always I received an excellent service from the guys and girls at RRG Macc and it's always nice to have a little natter about what's happening and going on. I've only driven home in traffic so didn't get a chance to get a feel for the new tyres, though I will need to scrub them a little first for a few miles. I will update in due course.

Yeah, I'm intrigued. Richard was worried it'd lose the fun element, but I'm going to give them a go see what I think. They are meant to excellent in the wet and I really like getting a move on when it gets raining, so we shall see. I will update with how it's going.

Interesting one. My key fob battery was changed as a matter of course.
-
I might do it later.

LOL! I can make it if people want to go for a drive out round North Wales on Sunday.

I'm agreeing with Ed here. 300bhp is easily enough. Ed, do you know what it lowered the compression to?
-
Good that's it going back in. Just went through the thread, what have Abbey actually done apart from fit a new sump? I just couldn't find any details anywhere.

I will be at Woodbridge for TSS. 80's Indie is cool though probably needs to be remastered to sound right.
-
Good work, James. I'm very interested to hear how it will sound. I tried stock, JBL but went the whole hog for an aftermarket system in the end, junking all the OEM stuff. I wasn't aware this was available as an option, but I admit I don't think I could have stuck with the stock head unit.

It looks alright I think, I'm glad they didn't do it purple with spangly pink wheels. What was all that 'emotion' stuff eh?

Welcome aboard. As Alec said, we have no issues whatsoever with people being on the other forum, all we want to do is get us much of us enthusiasts out and about together. It's all good fun.

Well maybe we need to revisit the spring rates. Perhaps I'm slightly better off running the 5/6kg setup that I do. Or do we need to go softer than that? But I do remember Yukiko saying something about the dampers being designed to run 7/7kg springs which is what the Tein Street Flex would ship with ordinarily. Is there a point I wonder where softer springs end up being over damped given the range of the dampers in regard to bump and rebound? Although in saying that, it's not a mega job for Tein UK to revalve them and they could do that. Lots of food for thought here.
-
That's reassuring to know. So no issues with spring rates then? Keith, Dave and I have 20% increase on rebound on the rears (fronts not touched). So it's not softer, it's harder. Bump steer is of course the front end, so ours are the same as your's.

Rob, if you can afford it, may as well get the active pro as you can change static setups in the car accurately and quickly. POP to put it in manual mode. That's interesting Dave. I am going to try running in various static settings for the moment, see if I can for the fun of it find an optimal road setting and then work it from there. I would love to come down in July for this, Dave, but the end of July will coincide with me being in Japan. If you could let me know dates costs, though that would be useful just in case you do do it say the first week in August and I might be able to make it.
-
Interesting. Dave is running 6kg front 6kg rear. I'm running 5kg front and 6kg rear. Good idea about really just trying it static at various settings to build up a feel for it. I'll have a go at that, see what I think. I think that with my slightly softer springs, it seems alright in respect of cornering and braking at the front end.
-
Keith, Dave. I was speaking to Rob last night and he said that you guys were having problems on the handling circuit as it was deemed that your suspension was too stiff. Rob mentioned that they said that Dave's was difficult on the limit was it was skipping over bumps on the rear I can only presume. I would just be interested to hear your thoughts on this and perhaps comments the instructors made. I'm guessing the feeling was the rear was too stiff. In terms of your setting have you tried running the rear proportionately softer? I am currently running the same front and rear, it does mean the rear is quite stiff and it will oversteer easily, though I admit, I like that as there is better control, but it is more edgy. I feel like geting the car to handle well is not a problem, but I am still playing with it, trying to get the best ride quality and damping compromise.

£2 per kilo = £32.60. Donated.

They drive on the left in Australia/New Zealand. Less money to buy will mean a lower spec to a degree. You need to understand what import duty/VAT is added too. It varies. If you want to buy a GT in Norway it's hideously expensive due to very high import taxes due to emissions. So there are countries where buying a GT86 is way more than it is in the UK. All GT's are built in Gunma, Japan, James.
