On the way apparently. I'm hoping to get them fitted for my 30K service, only a 1000miles to go now.

It's the professional way. Always reverse in. It's when people go in forwards and reverse out that the incidents happen IME. -
Road Hawk HD - Dash cam test

At least it records when you haven't got your seat belt on! Also can't believe you don't reverse onto your drive! Shocked! -
All thermostats on oil coolers open at 80C. 80C is the operating temperature of the engine. So the idea is that it keeps the oil temperature as close to 80C as it can. I fitted an oil cooler on my AE86, it's a huge 19 row. On track we still got the oil temperature up to 97C, but I couldn't get it over that. Our measurement was taken off the cooler itself though, so likely higher than the actual oil temperature.

The thermostat on the oil cooler (more correctly the sandwich plate) opens at 80C. If the temp drops below 80C the thermostat shuts off the oil cooler.

I am interested, though I'd be looking at a weekend away of course which would be good. I'd need to bring Indy paws I think too. Just checked with the karting. If it's the outdoor track, yes, I'd be up for it.

I'm very interested to try this one as there is a part of me that wonders if a centrifugal supercharger may well be the option that suits my needs best. I've driven three turbos and the Abbey twin screw SC. My thinking is that a centrifugal blower will deliver characteristics more like a bigger capacity NA. I like lots of revs, so don't want to waft along on torque. I've been impressed by all the other forced induction cars I've tried so far. Ian's was my favourite I think as I really liked the delivery, it was very smooth and you still revved the engine well to make good progress.

If it's of any use, I was hitting 125C on track in 30C at Donny last July. To be fair I just backed off a bit on the straights and it would drop a good 5C a bit more if you really eased it off and then go back up to 125C. Interestingly it didn't seem to get hotter than that, it's almost like it levelled off. So, for an NA, even on track I don't think it's really necessary, unless you were doing full length races which are not what trackdays are about of course. On the road I regularly see 100C, pretty common for motorway cruising.

Those temperatures, 81C is just normal operating temperature. 210F = nearly 100C which is well within limits. So I wouldn't say your temps were anyway high at all before. I am surprised that 20C difference would be even noticable. You'll need the cooler on track with the turbo, but I doubt it would be such an issue on the road.

Happy Birthday.

It's just how the Americans seem to always make more horsepower than UK equivalents. Bit of a long standing joke really. I can only summise that American horses must be smaller. Well, going fast in a straight line is not really my thing, but obviously some like it. I just think after driving Dave's car, it was more than fast enough really.
-
Yeah, those guys in the US always get more. I do wonder though at the point of 400bhp+ in a GT86.
-
I think it's a waste of time to go twin charging. The gains are fairly minimal and really it can only be worth doing if you wish to retain drivability if you have a huge turbo on it, that doesn't get going till high revs. Even then it's over complicated and expensive.

That was a summary of the pictures! There must be 200 of the engine rebuild! Oh and for those that haven't seen it, here's the car when it was on the road: These were taken at RRG Salford Quays at the GT86 launch in July 2012: They even sent a special guard from Toyota Japan to look after it. He did go over and have a good look at it! New and old:

The engine as left by Mr Tom. He completed this last February. Untitled by Lauren Blighton, on Flickr Tom has labelled some stuff, so I don't forget! Sounds good. I'm interested to see how a centrifugal supercharger performs compared with the twin screw.

I have a subscription to the old fashioned paper version. Guessing this is out in the next issue? Great stuff, at last the cars are getting into the readable magazines.

Pancreatic cancer. This kind of thing might be related to alcholism. He was 69, so not that young.

Trigger (Only Fools and Horses) dead. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-25762006 I reckon he had one of the best characters in the series. 'Alright Dave'.

He'll be immortalised forever for that scene!

It works! Well done, Rob. :+: (just need Alex to fix the smilies)

Yeah, I saw that. Didn't look his age either really, which made it more surprising initially.

Is the Cusco one carbon fibre, though or just wrapped? Description says it's layered. htweight aluminum shaft with carbon fiber.
