Recall issued on cars to have valve springs replaced 2012-2013
Lauren replied to Lauren's topic in Mechanical
Gary has been giving me updates. Reckons the timing chains look like new. He was impressed with the condition of what he saw of my engine saying it was a lot better than many others he had seen, which surprised me given my high mileage. Also my clutch still had a good amount of life in it, even after 126,000 miles. Impressive. Richard called today about the upcoming sprint season which is another story and said that Gary had done the work and my engine goes back in tomorrow. -

My car went in this morning. Got news later today that my engine is out and stripdown starts tomorrow. -
Nobody runs these as it's only a small upgrade to go to Street Advance with 5/5kg springs which is a good road setup. Most go for TEIN Flex A (rebuildable and hydropneumatic bumpstops) or Flex Z. So the answer is I don't know because I've never know anybody who runs these.

I had a remap from TD with a decat and catback and induction kit, it did make a difference, but nowhere near as much as it did when I went for a manifold as well. Is it worth doing? Yes, I think so if you're defintely not going for a manifold. But I would say get it done properly at somewhere like TD. Getting some half-arsed map isn't going to be worth it. Do it properly or not at all.

If it's any help, I had a similar incident though not as bad, needed a new front wing, no door damage and they managed to repair the dents in the wheel arch which were similar to your's. Was £2.7K for the repair. I went to Toyota and because it wasn't an approved repair place (and likely more expensive), I had to pay an extra £200 excess on top of my standard £400 excess.

Please post pics up as per selling rules. Just one thing, are you really selling second hand brake discs that have done 50K? -
Sorry to hear that, what a shame. Is the steering wheel still straight when going straight ahead? If it isn't your alignment has been knocked out and will need adjusting. It doesn't look like the rear whel was touched, but it could have been. If it tracks straight can't see why how it drives would be affected from that kind of impact as it looks cosmetic.

It's not about making me happy, it's about being helpful given anyone who buys your car will be bringing it over to the mainland. I'm looking out for members here, that's all.

It's not road tax, it's MOT and how long is left on it. Do you not have an MOT every 12 months? Ah, as you don't have an MOT as such in the IoM then the car will need an immediate MOT and I'm not clear as to whether it needs to registered on the mainland and get a UK plate. Maybe it's this kind of detail you need to include in your for sale post?
-
Please add pictures as per selling rules. If it's one of the cars due to the valve spring recall (pretty much guaranteed) then you may want to mention whether it's had the recall done yet. I would guess it hasn't. You should add the length of MOT and whether it's has a Toyota service history.

Looks like you've been busy! Will be interesting how you find the camber. That is quite a lot for a car that's used on the road. I run 2.5 degrees negative on the front and find my tyres wear evenly. Not sure if 3.2 degrees is going to wear the inside edge of your tyres. Two degrees on the rear is no problem though. I've got the SPL rear aluminium lower arms. They are a lovely bit of kit. Think only the adjuster is titanium.

I think you are going to have to wait for an EML before you can take it in again. The down pipe which comes up from the collector to the manifold is nowhere near the cam sensors. Plus it's wrapped. Can't see that being an issue.

I wonder if the fluid he is using is more susceptible to being hydroscopic? Mine has been in for 20K miles and 18 months and it's absolutely fine. Probably due a change soon though!

At 38K , your next service is a full service. I have to give ballpark figures. £300 for full service which will be your next one. 50K miles is an intermediate so say £200. Then your third is potentially going to be around the 60K mile mark around £600 which includes the spark plugs. That makes a total of £1100. This is based on average mileage of 10-12K a year. If you were only at say 50K miles in three years then your total would be around £700. So why not just pay for each service as you go?

Let's do something. I've met up with a few European friends before, in Belgium, Germany and Switzerland. If you have any cool events going on over there, do please let me know.
-
You can use anyone, but be aware if you want to keep your warranty you will need to use OEM service items and your mechanic will need to be a limited company.

Welcome aboard and enjoy your car. Look at the social meets and official events section, plenty going on.

I use Millers 5.1. Not had any problems with pedal feel if that's any help? 4-5 laps at a time though is all I do, so not sure how much that's a factor.

At last a new venue for the ever popular Jap2Jap meet which has moved from Chorley to Warrington. Easy access off the M62 and close to Manchester. There's normally a good mix of Japanese cars and various other things seem to turn up. Always good for a natter, let me know if you are interested. A number of us have been going to these meets for years. Let me know if you fancy it. 1. Lauren 2. 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10

The facelift certainly did bring some improvements, mainly in refinement than anything else. A bit nicer on the interior and dash too.

You'll be fine with the super res. Interestingly I have the EL manifold no cats and resonated cat back. I added a resonator where my straight through decat pipe was (replaces the second cat). The resonator has two silencers in it. Cannot believe how quiet it is, can't be much more than stock, so that's another way to do it. But even without the extra silencers I've just had added I would easily be under 95Db at 4000rpm. More like 90Db and it was pretty loud I thought before!
-
Bonjour Vincent. Tres bien! It's about time we had an international meet. Got to get all those on the mainland together.
-
Go with what you want it will make very little difference. Just remember a supercharger will make your exhaust louder. Consider those extra resonators that I got put on if you are losing the second cat as well.
-
Yes, I put one back on.

I think its a good point that changing the manifold may have an effect on inake sound. Interesting, even though my car from new had the sound generator plugged off!
