    My GT86 Progress Thread

Very stealth. One thing to consider is that if you have had the front windows tinted they will be illegal.

    Rusty crank pulley

I agree with you on that one. I seriously doubt a lightweight pulley would make any difference at all apart from not going rusty. My crank pulley is pretty rusty, but it doesn't really matter. I just don't worry about stuff like that.

CUSCO Parts - Orders & Requests!

Okay may be worth a punt then. I've never had an issue with kerbs and TSC coming back on. I don't mind the EBD, I've got used to it when trail braking. ABS I would keep on. Cheers for that.

CUSCO Parts - Orders & Requests!

Ah okay, Steve, that sounds more like it. Not sure I need the pedal dance thing though, quite happy with how it behaves when I just do the simple three second press. But I admit, I've not tried the pedal dance. It looks very easy to install. Any idea how much it is?

CUSCO Parts - Orders & Requests!

I just had a look at a video of the button that they have installed and you have to hold it in for three seconds to turn everything off. What's the point of that? Is it actually finished or are they still working it out? Really not clear from the FB page. The website is being updated.

CUSCO Parts - Orders & Requests!

Yep, that was what Mark was saying. If you want to have a go, be my guest. I'd happily pay for your time and materials.

Sounds good, but a lot of money to save me a 3 second button press!

That VSC canceller. Does it allow you to have everything off all the time without having to do it manually everytime you start the car by holding the traction button down for three seconds? If so how much is it? Just weighing up if it would be worth it to save me holding a button down for three seconds everytime I start the car.

£5 off a fill up at Shell

Sounds good, but I have found it (for years now) impossible to link the fill and go to my drivers club account, so I would still have to go in the shop anyway to get my points. I've emailed them to see if they can sort it out.

    Torque Dip

Well you could just smash out the cat, that is a way of doing it. You will need to remap to make the most out of it though. That cost is there whatever you do. I think the bigger gains on the aftermarket manifolds are where they have longer primary pipes as they don't have to allow for the length of the cat. Though it's cheap to smash the cat out (I have a manifold with primary cat you can buy if you want?) it's not having the knowledge of what the actual gains are that is the risk I guess. I expect you are bound to gain something though, but what is hard to say. The extra torque from an aftermarket manifold is far more useful on the road than it is on the track as it's the big mid range increase you notice the most. You don't really see that gain on the track so much as are in the higher rpm range more of the time.

    2016+ Aero Wheels

It's okay, the wheel is slightly different in it's design from the TRD version and obviously more cheaply made as it would have been quite some result to get forged TRD wheels on an Aero!

    2016+ Aero Wheels

It's not the SF2 though is it? It's not the forged wheel as shown in the picture, it's the cast stock Aero wheels that came when they changed from using the ultralights from OZ.

    Gearbox strength

Well it's up to you, Rich. You don't have to be hard on the brakes to heel and toe nor do you have to be rev match on downshifts. I do tend to use a lot of engine braking by doing this on approach to junctions. I'm not in a rush, but I do it anyway. Likewise coming up the box I never miss a gear even if it is only selected briefly. I guess all of these things mean that you are using the engine better in it's power range rather then dropping the rpm significantly by block shifting. You also always have better control with engine braking and being in a gear where you have access to power should you need it. The push/pull method of steering is seriously outdated and goes back to the road handbook of the 1930's when steering was unassisted and wheels were huge. Quite frankly it's simply downright dangerous for a number of reasons. One is the lack of feel, two you don't know where the wheels are pointing and thirdly you can't react quick enough. I agree observation is everything. I learnt during my racing instruction to look ahead and use my peripheral vision. Much better than moving your head around all the time.

    Gearbox strength

It's poor technique. Just because advanced driving organisations and the police teach it doesn't mean it's good. Remember how both tell you how to use the steering wheel? The better way is to go through all the gears, less issues with slipping clutches and wear on synchros if you go a gear at a time. It's much harder to rev match when going down more than one gear at a time. I learnt this when racing back in 2004 and would typically go from fourth to third and then to second, heel and toeing whilst in the braking zone for a corner. It's hard because you have to learn to do it quickly, but it's the way to do it.

    Torque Dip

I don't think Mark got as far as actual testing, so we don't know the results. It seems that most opt for an aftermarket manifold rather than decatting the original which does involve some fabrication. So I don't think it was popular enough to warrant taking further by the looks of it.

    2016+ Aero Wheels

I don't think they were. Was never an option. It would have been an expensive option too.

    Cropzys Red TRD

I've driven a couple of TRD's a few times and also the Aero which has the same wheel size and tyre setup. It's got more grip than the Primacy. The suspension is the same, so the handling is the same, just more grip really. The ride isn't really any different.

    Torque Dip

It really isn't a big issue. You only notice what an 'issue' it was when you change the manifold and get a big increase in mid-range torque. So what you don't know about, you don't miss really!

What would you add to the car?

No, they won't be better than stock over speedhumps. I'd say worse. Speedhumps are a nightmare. I just go slowly over them.
  21. She could just use the old colon and close bracket instead etc. Or change her contract so it's sorted?
  22. I'd say use Whats App or FB messenger.

    Gearbox strength

It's more because you are not in control of the car. Also when in neutral you use fuel, when slowing down in gear you do not.

    Gearbox strength

The best way to preserve synchros, is not only rev matching which I do along with heel and toeing (same thing) but to always change up or down one gear at a time. Never block shift, it's poor technique. Also never coast in neutral.

What front pipe and Manifold to have?

The Tuning Developments equal length manifold really is the best one to get. The primaries are long on it which is what gives a big increase in torque. I've gone from 125lb/ft at 3750rpm to 175lb/ft at the same rpm. Massive difference. Totally transforms the car. As others have probably said it will mate to any other system that has the same couplings as the stock system. You may though, want to consider their resonated system as well though. TD get their exhausts and manifolds made by JP Exhausts in Macclesfield. I used them for years before I got my GT86. JP make amazing quality exhausts and manifolds, their quality is second to none. You can still keep your second cat with TD's manifold and catback exhaust. That should keep it quiet enough. I just ditched the second cat as well so mine is a bit louder. Not an issue though.
