Pistonheads Sunday Service 2017 (Silverstone 29/10/17)
Lauren replied to TTR's topic in Social Meets
All five corners? Barely worth it! Whilst it's a lot of fun to race on, it's a bit meh for a track session. -
I've been twice in 2005 and 2006. It's a must do for any enthusiast. Very much worth three days there or so to get some laps in. It's definitely worth practicing on GT6 or whatever you have, made a massive difference to my learning curve as I knew where every crest went and could remember all the corners no problem. Think I did around a 1000 laps on the PS3 before I went (or was it a PS2? Can't remember). One thing to remember though is that you get charged for any stoppages you cause and also for lost track time and any damage to armco etc, so it can get very expensive, very quickly. It's the best track out there, but I would recommend you don't time your runs, unless you are recording (which they don't like) as it's just simply not worth the risk. There is inevitably a couple of bad accidents a day where cars get written off. You really must have your wits about you if you go on track there.

What circuit layout do they use on these days? -

Fair enough, but no way I'd do it. The trouble is if I went out in the advanced sessions, I'd bet there will be a load of billies in that session who massively overestimate their ability. Choices and all that, but rather you than me. Just do it properly and do a track day. It's for the same reason I don't go on track at events like Japfest, unless we have an allocated session for the club. -

I must admit, not doing the track session is sensible. There is no way I'd go on track with a load of billies who haven't got a clue what they are doing. If you want to go on track, do a track day. Much better option. -
Congrats. The head unit in the BRZ is even worse than the Toyota one. It's easy to change though. Lots of people have installed reversing cameras, so it's not a problem. My rear lights have had condensation in them. I admit, such things don't worry me, but you can get it repaired under warranty. There are loads of options for brake pads. I'm just about to try a set of Project Mu HC800's, have a search for the thread, 'brakes', plenty of info in there.

To be fair, I just always set my sat nav before I drive off. I don't do it on the move. But I may change my music selection on the move, which is much the same thing. But you could argue that changing a CD is worse, or is it? But then you're into the realms of whether pressing a button to change radio station on an ancient head unit is breaking the law, which would have the same effect as saying pressing my heated seat button, or checking my average mpg. Where does it end?
-
Nice! It's interesting that the seat trim looks to be the same as what we have on the zenki model GT86/BRZ, whereas Toyota have changed the alcantara to a perforated material with white stitching.
-
Surely just better to change to an aftermarket head unit with sat nav? The stock unit is poor anyway.
-
Defi gauges are lovely. What's the one on the right for? Oil pressure?

MFactory Final Drive Kits in stock at Tuning Developments for GT86 and BRZ
Lauren replied to Mike@TD.co.uk's topic in Tuning Developments
I tried Kev's car with the shorter final drive just on the road only for ten minutes. It made me think it wasn't worth it. I like doing Euro trips in my car, so high speed cruising is important, plus I do travel around a bit. I didn't think it offered enough to make me want to change it for the track as I sprint of course. So whilst I may lose out there, I didn't really like the shortened 1st and 2nd gear. The advantage of the shorter final drive seemed to decrease the faster you were going, though I didn't really get beyond the limits of third I admit.- 101 replies

RF = retractable roof. The problem with the RF will be buffeting with the roof section down I think and this comes through in the reviews. Many years ago I had an MR2 t-bar and the buffeting meant that I didn't remove the t-bar panels after a time. The MX5 I had around the same time (supplied by Mazdain 2004) was much better in terms of buffeting but that was a soft top of course. So that would be my reservations with the RF, unless you just drive with the roof up all the time.

I always say you learn more on a wet track day as it teaches you a lot about how the car feels and you focus in on it. It was kind of the best of both worlds as it dried out in the afternoon and this made a massive difference to the speeds you can carry. Twas a great track day. I just love Oulton.

Good work and looking good. We did a run out round the Peak District last summer, I suspect there will likely be another, keep an eye out on social meets.
-
I can't believe this cannot be sorted. Surely replacing all the reversing sensor stuff is not that difficult. Had mine on for 94K miles without issue. I'd go to a different dealer. Try Toyota.

Saying 'Sayounara' is like saying, I'm going but never coming back. Still good luck with the beemer. I've had my car four years now, if anything I just like it more.

Yes, absolutely Kev, was a good social and catch up. Let me know when you're oop north again.

Kev and Debbie are up from darn South, so we are looking to have some dinner in the Jolly Thresher in Lymm. https://www.jollythresher.co.uk/?doing_wp_cron=1487616504.0164821147918701171875 Jolly Thresher 229 Higher Lane, Lymm, Cheshire WA13 0RN. Table will be booked for 7pm. Everyone welcome, there will be some good banter I'm sure catching up with my racing rival and lots of car talk I hope! Hopefully this time there will be no singer with an evil girlfriend who stares at me throughout the night, but we'll see! Food is good enough and Indy paws will make an appearance. Please try and let me know by Wednesday so I can get the table booked. 1. Lauren 2. Mark 3. Indy 4. Debbie 5. Kev 6. Hoax 7. Mike 8.

Great work, Neal. If you could email it to: lauren@trackdayqueen.com that'd be great.

Good work! I still think if you have to have a square plate, 12x6" will look better as it's the same size as the JDM plate.
-
Audio stuff doesn't matter, so not a problem. Unless you think some banging tunes will help your times? So no mods that would have any impact on the performance of the car.
-
I reckon you most be one of very few with the carbon ones, they are just so expensive. I've got the plastic ones and they were enough.

Please post a price and pictures. No ebay links.

My brakes were screwed on track yesterday at Oulton. It was really quite worrying in the dry. I think my Stoptech pads after a bit over 30K miles are getting a bit thin and not coping with heat well. I had a good chat with Jeff about his Project Mu HC800's and it would seem they could be what I'm looking for, as I want a pad I can really modulate when trail braking and he reckoned they were good for that. £264 for a set, ordered this morning and a nearly new set of discs to go on that I bought from Rob about a year ago. This should help, I hope. I will feedback once they're on and fitted.

Maybe I could see beyond your loathing of Evans. Ah, I know what it was, I think you were saying it couldn't be TG without the threesome, all that stuff.
