But he's taking his car on track, Rob.
-
Much better bet I would say.
-
Just take it on track as is, Ross. Get your confidence back. Or as other's have said have the throttle sensitivity adjusted. I had to re-calibrate my right foot to increase my foot's sensitivity after the remap, but now I've done that, it's fine. Sounds like to me you haven't really had a proper play with it yet. I'd say wait before going and changing things. It may not be what you want in the longer term.
-
See what Rob says, he runs much the same power as you.

Well, most circuits have noisy days and let's not forget that F1 cars only race at Silverstone. But your PH day will not be a noisy day. Yep, it does give you a headache. Some circuits like Croft and Goodwood are a bit too restrictive though and that is because of the NIMBY's. Best way forward is to ensure you are well within all circuit noise limits, then you don't have to worry. Doing the standard at the track 3/4 rpm test I tend get 90dB. Loud enough, but not too loud.

Grip in a straightline is not the same as grip in the corners. For example, I tried two tyres. Firstly the Contisport Contact 5's which had really good grip off the line and in a straight line when accelerating. They were better than the V105's in that respect. But when it came to lateral grip the situation was reversed. Spinning wheels in a straight line is easy to control, but I preferred the better lateral grip of the V105's. Also remember it's harder to get the heat into big wide tyres than it is skinnier ones. I'll bet Rob prefers the skinnier tyres because of the better feel you get and the better response of pulling the sidewall to the rim a bit as it sharpens things up noticably.

I admit, I haven't tried the current F1's though in a way I have, driving Keith's turbo GT on track with 245's. F1s tend to be soft on the sidewall and don't tend to take track abuse well. Great for the road though, probably.

Having had the misfortune to endure those with exhausts reaching 110dB going past me whilst I've been stuck on the pitlane all day, I'm all for enforcing reasonable noise limits on track. When exhausts are that loud it actually hurts.

It's an interesting debate. I tried 225/45/17's on my 8" rims. I found there was some difference in grip, but it was the sidewalls moving around that I really didn't like. I've been in Kev's car with 235's on sticky Direzzas on track and well, it re-arranged my kidneys with the grip levels. It was hugely more grippy than mine, but I didn't like it at all as that's all it was. Whilst it was obviously quicker, Kev admitted that it wasn't as much fun. Rob was running 235's IIRC with his Sprintex. Manufacturers commonly seem to stick on the widest tyre on the narrowest rim it seems.
-
Good, I'm glad it's not just me. I like handling over grip and you can still go fast enough, it's just more fun.
-
Isn't a 255 just a bit wide on a 8.5" rim? I'm sure you can fit it, but you're going to get some sidewall flex with that. I would have said 235 as a maximum ideally. I'm starting to feel relatively under tyred with a 215 on an 8" rim!

You will get black flagged at Silverstone if your exhaust is too loud. I've worked at tracks long enough to know they are always strict about such things.

Welcome aboard. One of the first with the new revision on the club I think! I've used the DAB in courtesy cars I've had, from what I remember it's a matter of selecting the right source for DAB which is different from FM. Sorry not much help, bit I've managed it in all the courtesy cars I've had from Toyota with DAB and it will be the same unit.

My remap filled in the torque curve so the mid range was better which made the overal rev range I can use larger. So it didn't feel 'less quick' in anyway, it was quicker for sure. That was the biggest gain which was the torque in the mid-range really. I've got a 2nd decat, overpipe and system with an induction kit if that helps.

It's just a bigger brake pedal on top of the original to aid heel and toeing. Though the stock setup works beautifully well for heel and toeing I find. Or it's for left foot braking too.

Buying a supercharged gt86 with no experience of modified cars

For Toyota, RRG Macclesfield is where everybody goes and for for good reason. For remaps and tuning, Tuning Developments in Warrington. Again, highly recommended. Edit, just seen Ross's response! -
Not sure if it works but the B5392 from Broken Cross in Macc, which crosses the A34 and comes out at the Yellow Broom near Jodrell Bank is a tight and twisty road. It's normally quiet.

Yes, this was Jonathan's car originally which he had from new. He did fit high quality components but removed pretty much all of them except the HKS kit before selling them on. ST coilovers are a bit on the cheap side, though I can't really comment as I haven't tried them myself. The current owner has of course also added the Rota wheels. As others' have said, you are running on the edge it would seem of what the engine can take realistically. How you get on is just a matter of how it goes. You could detune it a bit and reduce the power output to around 280bhp which would be safer on the rods. It will cost you a monkey most likely to do this. All these things depend upon how it's been driven of course. I don't think there are any major reliabiity problems with the HKS kit. -
It seems to have sort of gone from way too loud to a little too quiet. This is my dilemma. I'm very happy with how my car sounds but know that changing the manifold will mean I will have to mess around trying to find a good solution to keep the noise at bay. I know there is something to gain in the mid-range from the right manifold, even if the top end figures are not going to be significantly higher. I already though seem to do better on peak power than many with a manifold even though I'm still on the stock one. I am aware of course that peak power is not the whole story.
-
Get out of here! That's approximately 2.5%, nobody can notice that! You'll notice significant increases in the torque in the mid range, but then we are talking 20-30lb/ft.
-
Great stuff, we all go there for a reason. I've been using RRG Macc for about 14 years now!
-
It'll be shite. I've driven a GT86 with this size tyre on track. Not good.
-
Big sidewalls, will flex a fair bit. As other's have said, get a different tyre in a better size. It seems like PS4's are the latest must have for some reason.
-
I've never heard of this problem before. Was this after you'd had it apart to fit speakers or something?
-
To be fair, you should get a lot more than 20K miles out of stock discs and pads. I got 37K out of my first set.
