New owner .. well will be in March 2017

I must admit, if it was me, I really wouldn't worry about what reg it had on it! Mind you I got mine on the 1st February. No way, was I going to wait another month! Decisions, decisions.

    Parkers running a GT86

That's fine, mentioning the club, more than happy for you to do so. If it's any help, my car still doesn't use any oil between services and it's over 93K miles now. Now it's run in, enjoy!

Yes, I had dynamat put in the door panels too, against the outer skin which I guess also helps. I was hoping you can see it in this pic, but you can't! Untitled by Lauren Blighton, on Flickr And the crossover in the door panel: Untitled by Lauren Blighton, on Flickr I also went for an amp working on three channels, one for the amp and the other two for the front speakers. My rear speakers are disconneceted as they are well totally useless.

You also may want to consider changing the stock head unit as there are no pre-outs for an amp on the stock one and well, it's not very good. Ditto the shocking front speakers. In the end I went the whole hog and removed all the stock components was there as nothing worth keeping.

Also, think about putting tweeters in the door panel: Untitled by Lauren Blighton, on Flickr Much better than in the more compromised position on top of the dash.

  7. Changing the fuel filter is quite an involved job as you have to take out the rear seats and the filter is of course in the tank. Then you have to be mindful of not creating any air locks as otherwise the fuel will not draw from one side of the tank. It's not worth doing at four years old, the service schedule for changing it is not until 80K miles.

    GT86 MY 17

Paul, are you talking about the exhaust manifold? We are talking about the inlet manifold here.

Reducing engine oil temperatures on track

That's why you have a thermostat on the sandwich plate. I have that setup with a 19 row cooler on my AE86.

Reducing engine oil temperatures on track

Seems more sensible to fit an oil to air cooler, with a rad up front and oil lines taken off the sandwich plate. Tried and tested etc. 19 row ought to be plenty.
  11. It's all in the service book, but take care reading it, for stuff that is applicable to the GT86. Service is every 10K miles or every year whatever comes sooner. Odd numbers i.e., 10, 30, 50K etc are intermediate services. Even numbers are full services. Every 20K the diff oil needs to be changed. At 60K that is when the spark plugs need doing and the most expensive of all is at 80k when the fuel filter is changed.

Uhhh... my rear view mirror glass fell out?

This seems to have happened to a few people. It is odd. But yes, warranty claim won't be a problem!

Passenger side footwell to the transmission tunnel. I have mine in my glovebox. It fits, just.
  14. Cruise control on following trucks at around 56 mph will see you over 50mpg.

Reducing engine oil temperatures on track

A lower opening thermostat will make no differnece at all. Likely an oil cooler is your best bet. I've seen mine up to 125C (the only time I measured it on a 35C day at Donington), but I keep my sessions to 10 minutes. I get though that after four laps or so, the tyres tend to stabilise and you can play, so I understand the point of doing longer sessions. As Jeff said, an oil cooler is the only way, or just ease off on the straights, but it will still be around 120C or so.
  16. You'll be fine. Sport mode in normal driving. If there's a lot of snow, turn everything off as otherwise you'll get nowhere. Hope you picked it up okay. All the snow is gone now though.

    Harrop/Eaton S/C

Well, if you're going over 125C then I'd want an oil cooler. You can't replicate track conditions on the road, so you can only gauge what the oil temp is on track really, because it is just not possible to drive hard like you would on track. I've seen 125C on track on a hot day too 35C. I just lifted off on the straights a bit to help cool it down. I kept my sessions to around ten minutes. That helps.

    Hi from Cheltenham

Welcome aboard, Adam. Nice! But those 19's do look a bit much, so don't blame you for swopping them to something a bit more suitable. There's a growing scene in the Gloucester/Cheltenham area, so look out for meets in the social events section.

    Midlands newbie...

Welcome Chris, I think I may have seen your car before due to my time with MR2's and IMOC. I know Barry's car. The good news is, I think he spent more time polishing it than driving it, but it's a clean machine. Bet you can't wait!

    ITB's Anyone?

Indepedent throttle body. This means one throttle body per cylinder. Rather than just one throttle for all four cylinders as is the case for our engine. Back in the old days when cars ran on carbs people (like me) used to fit twin 48DHLA Dellortos or DCOE Webber's. A good power increase was normally the result. If you look at an E36/E46 M3 you see they have individual throttle bodies. That's pretty cool, I do look forward to hearing the cost. I'm expecting north of £2K.

New GT86 owner - sort of!

Just a rough guess, Joe. It could be just you!

New GT86 owner - sort of!

Don't forget the BRZ had different spring rates compared to the GT86, so you want another GT86 to compare with. My guess is that in the revised model, they've made the spring rates more like the BRZ.

    Adjustable rear control arms

This is what I've done for three years having had three or four alignments done. Yes they are a PITA to adjust, but really once set, it's fine.

New GT86 owner - sort of!

No worries. My best guess is the new model will understeer more, or oversteer less, depending upon your viewpoint. I am interested to see how I find the new car in terms of it's handling and whether the extra apparent chassis rigidity makes a difference. I suspect that it will be more about reducing NVH over anything else, but we shall see.
