Could not drive past without saying yellow!

quick video walk round -
In 1 week my car went from this P1000358 by keelerad1, on Flickr To this photo by keelerad1, on Flickr photo2 by keelerad1, on Flickr photo3 by keelerad1, on Flickr Thinking I need to get a custom wrap made up in this pattern so I never even get tempted to waste time when I should be driving it, cleaning it

For probably 98% of the general public it might be true that brake callipers don't get that hot, but for people that want to paint them red I'd suggest the likelihood is they intend to get them well hot ! Alec
-
3 I think, makes me laugh to think what would happened if I'd used their caliper paint, see spec below from their website, brake calipers do not get that hot my Arse!! Suitable for use on brake calipers & brake drums Touch-dry in about 40-45 minutes. Through-dry 24 hours Maximum working temperature of around 80 degC (brake calipers do not actually get that hot) Alec

Some pictures of my scorched front calipers[emoji3] Need to get some better high temp paint, Halfrauds 300C engine lacquer obviously doesn't cut it

Reverse Camera Plug and Play Kit - £75
keelerad replied to GT86Jay's topic in For Sale GT86 / BRZ Parts
Jay's loom is specifically designed to plug into the standard Toyota head unit, he managed to source the right connector to plug straight into that. You could probably use one of Jays but you'd have to work out the pinouts and where to get a compatible connector from, assuming you head unit provides/requires the same power and input. No, I thought it was air con at first (esp as I drive with it on nearly all the time) but I have deliberately turned it off as a test and still seen it happen. No obvious cause (e.g. turning lights on) but never had any issues because of it, as soon as you push the loud pedal the engine picks up fine. Alec

Yep mine does it as well, sometimes sounds like it might stall, but never has. It gives you an excuse to blip the throttle a bit Alec

Good man. Someone who acted upon our post!
keelerad replied to Tim@Prestige's topic in Insurance Companies
it is in their own traders area Dave ! Hardly spam, though it would be nice to see an 86 example, but until someone insures with them they can't just make it up Alec -
There's me Mike and Rich (Riceburner) around Manchester as well Alec

I'm about to put on my 3rd set of fronts, (OEMs changed to EBC Yellow stuff at 22k). Having just checked the fronts (at 33k) they will need changing for the sprint at Rockingham (down to 2mm at leading edge) so have got about 11k out of the EBC yellow stuff But in that 11k, they did do : 120 laps (200 miles) at Oulton, this totally finished the rear pads at 27k and the next days trip to Angelsey via the scenic route wore through into the backing and shagged the rear disks (86 didn't go on track at Angelsey) a full track day at Croft (about 150 miles) TSS pre-season at Barkston Heath 3 TSS sprints (Blyton twice, plus Croft) 2 sessions at Lydden Hill and nearly all of my driving is fast A/B roads with lots of overtaking and braking, I hate motorways dual/carriageways I've been happy with the Yellow stuffs, no problems with lack of bite when cold on the road, but also no issues with fade even when super hot at Oulton (I had painted my calipers with 300 degree engine lacquer, after Oulton it was burnt black, and no its not dust!), so for me they suit my driving style on the Primacy tyres. I have Special K's OEM front disks to go on tomorrow as well (he stuck on a BBK), once I get my original disks off I'll measure them to see what they are down to after 33k miles Oh and I'm on the 3rd set on the back as well, but that is down to the cock up with trying the unvented cheapo rear disks after Angelsey and having a pad fall out so I had to get another set of pads as well as the OEM vented rears! Alec (hoping that tomorrow is going to have the sunshine my phone says there will be)

Public Service Announcement - Winter Tyres
keelerad replied to Rarerims.co.uk's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
If you stick to Summers and crash I'll say "he told you so!" Get yourself winters and enjoy your 86 all year round ! Alec (a convert) -
How long do you plan to keep your 86/BRZ?
keelerad replied to griffinnn's topic in GT86/BRZ General Chat
Can't think of anything that at around 25k new gives RWD fun ? With the move in the mainstream to 3 cylinder turbo engines as well in normal cars, why would you possibly want to change away from a proper manual NA RWD sports coupe with great steering/handling that (just about) has 4 seats? Only thing I'd change would be to make the top end delivery a bit peakier (like a VVLTI or VTEC engine) Alec -

If your thinking of using poverty spec rear disks, don't !
keelerad replied to keelerad's topic in Mechanical
Yeah they were obviously thinner, but I made the ass-u-me assumption that if they worked on the Japanese G-spec model, they'd work on mine (not knowing that the Japanese model has different spec rear calipers) As there are numerous traders on e-bay selling theses disks for UK cars, thought I should fess up to being a dick and warn others (I didn't realise they were solids when I ordered them, but on checking the ad it did state they were) , as I was lucky enough to get away with it without having an accident and I don't want anyone else who's not as lucky as me to put them on and not be as lucky The correct ventilated disks are on order from RRG Macc, so will be up and running again in a day or so Alec (stupid but Lucky and public spirited) -
Having bought a set of poverty spec (solid rather than ventilated) rear disks (£55) from e-bay I discovered that once your pads get worn a bit they are not such a good idea I presume that the calipers on the Japanese version that uses these must be slightly different, as I had a pad fall out on Sunday and had to drive home 12 miles on engine braking and hand brake alone (hmm pushing that brake pedal and having it go to the bulkhead, I was very lucky it happened at low speed) Now waiting for the correct spec ventilated disks to arrive at RRG so I can get back on the road You have been warned I'm going to drop a message to the seller on e-bay if they are still selling them to warn them Alec

The solids were 10mm Alec -
Yes but that was before you got it all shiny, now you'll drive it less as you'll be worried I have a name for this "Sennaitis" Alec I do admit it does look lovely and Rob did a cracking job, but it'll put you off actually driving it. What you need is 2 86's one to polish and keep in an air conditioned garage on carpet tiles to look at and take photos of (GJOB) one to have fun in by driving it loads and not caring about the dirt

I fitted new pads when the disks went on in July so only a few thousand miles Alec -
All your doing is creating an excuse to not drive it cause you'll be worried it will get dirty again ! Wear your swirls and dirt with Pride Alec (Pigpen) Keeler
