    Essex Mini-meet.

Yep, a good meet... a few from the 'dark side' turned up but, hey, we can hack it... a bit of holy water helps... Well done Musketeer for organising it (was this an ego trip to bask in admiring looks at his yellow peril?). Sorry I had to shoot off.... err, well more like saunter off but at least the Yaris I was in has won a TSS round.. you don't just get any courtesy car from Fensport! I still fancy the idea of doing a treasure hunt around the Essex/Herts/Suffolk area.... Spec K

The Grim Reaper camce for me last night and I beat him off with the vacuum cleaner. Talk about Dyson with death... My daughter asked me for a pet spider for her birthday, so to the local pet shop and they were £70 !! Blow this, I thought, I can get one cheaper off the web.. I was at an ATM yesterday when a little old lady asked if I could check her balance, so I pushed her over.. I start a new job in Seoul next week. I thought it was a good Korea move.. Statistically 6 out of seven dwarfs are not Happy. My neighbour knocked on my door at 2.30 this morning. Can you believe it - 2.30am!! Luckily I was still up playing my bagpipes.. Paddy says "Mick, I'm t'inking of buying a Labrador". "Blow dat" says Mick "have you seen how many of dere owners go blind?" The wife was counting all the 5ps and 10ps out on the kitchen table when she suddenly got very angry and started shouting and crying for no reason. I thought to myself "she's going through the change.." When I was in the pub I heard a couple of plonkers saying that thety wouldn't feel safe on an aircraft if they knew the pilkot was a woman. What a pair of sexists - I mean, it's not as if she'd have to reverse the thing... Murphy says to Paddy "What'ya talking into an envelope for?" "I'm sending a voicemail, ya thick eejit!" Just got back from my mate's funeral - he died after being hit on the head with a tennis ball. It was a lovely service.. Finally... A teddy bear is working on a building site, comes back from his tea break to find that his pick has been stolen. The bear is angry and reports the theft to the foreman. The foreman grins at the bear and says "oh, I forgot to tell you.. "... today's the day the teddy bears have their picks nicked.."

New To The Forum - Colchester (Essex) Way

Hi James Good to see another guy in this neck of the woods... the only way is Essex !! Har har.... Get your name down for TSS at Snetterton, 29th March. Nice easy intro to your local track with a sprint, great bunch of guys (apart fom the other GT86ers, who are nutters of course..). See the 2015 TSS thread on 'Events'. You should have no problem at Donington with noise but if you're concerned there's a mobile phone app, I'm told... or get Adrian to measure it when you're up there.. Meet up soon. Spec K

Nikndel - Twigman confirms that they can reprogram the ECU for a new key (£310). See above. But Lauren's right - Rich at RRG is the guy to speak with.. Spec K

    MY 86 HAS BEEN FOUND!!!!

Twigman - if the ECU is reprogrammed the 'old' key is useless to start it, as it's the fob that transmits the signal. Yes, you may lose your valuables - if you leave them in the car - but you won't lose the car.. Spec K

Avo Turbo 2015 New specs and prices

Yep, that's about the size of it.. we also enjoy autoblip on changing down. I admit I prefer using it in manual mode, especially on track but the changes are equally quick whichever mode you drive in. And, if in sport mode with drive engaged the box will autochange down under heavy braking. Much nicer to override it with the paddles, though.. I have also fitted the 4.67 diff ratio - the auto box has different ratios to the manual, your 6th gear is the auto's 5th, so the car is still good for 80mph at 3000rpm in top. Spec K

    Interesting read

Stan, I think there is a mobile phone app which does a db meter's job.... Also, if anyone is considering an f/i upgrade for optimal track use I would suggest thinking carefully about a new exhaust system - better to go 3inch than 2.5inch is my personal view.. Spec K

Avo Turbo 2015 New specs and prices

Tareim - the standard torque converter is rated to approx. 260bhp and, like the standard clutch, is not up to a boosted output. In order to take advantage of the dizzy heights that 300+bhp can achieve you need to consider an upgrade - the people who know a thing or two about this are SSP Performance in Houston, Texas. It is not only the torque converter that needs upgrading - you need a modified valve body assembly to upgrade the transmission oil pressures required. And, if you're considering serious track usage - like wot I do - a transmisison oil cooler is worth considering. SSP do three versions - street, street/track and drag - on a part-exchange basis. Torque converter is about $1200, valve body assembly is about $1400 and the oil cooler kit is $1200 6 I have fitted the street/track option, with oil cooler. Be warned - this is an aggressive upgrade and needs getting used to, it changes gear astonishingly quickly (0.2secs) and gives you a jolt up the a*se, the street version is less aggressive, so you're welcome to try my car before committing to it. Fesport imported/fitted the whole lot for me - to overcome the problem of being without the car whilst the old stuff was stripped out and sent to the USA I bought a second hand box and used that for p/x bits. You might be able to do a deal with Adrian on my second hand bits..? www.sspperformance.com Spec K

Stoptech Brake upgrade at fantastic prices

I used Stoptech rotors all last season - front and rear - with KSport 8-pot calipers front, std calipers rear - fitted Ferodo DS2500 pads. Had to replace the front rotors after 8000 miles, worn out. Pads were 2/3rds worn. Spec K

    Rav4 2.2 DCI Invincible Review

Interesting.... but way beyond my "additional car" budget, alas... I've been viewing second hand Kia Sedona's and Hyundai Santa Fe's during the past few days. I'm looking for a daily drive (rather than use the GT86 which is racking up the mileage) which will double up as a soon-to-be- two grandkids safety barge ... plus there's the possibility that I might use a trailer to take my car to/from TSS and other trackdays, so I need a boot to take the bits.. That requires a 1500kg tow rating... so a 2.4l diesel would be about right... add the TDI tuning box and it takes it to another level.. heh.. Spec K

    If I get another GT86....

I don't have the facility to track it online and I don't have an extra security key, so mine must be a Cat 6, Rob. Twigman - the way/places the tracker units are fitted makes locating/removing 6 a whole days work! Mine is buried in the chassis but I don't know exactly where, it took Andy four hours to fit it, hence the £200-odd.. if I was a car thief and could identify a tracked car I would look for one without, rather than try and nick one with... As for identifying which cars are fitted with them I don't know how they do that. The units are asleep, emitting no signals, until woken by a coded transmission from the security firm. Mind you, it's a bit of a giveaway if you put a sticker in the window.. Tareim - I've had no problem with battery life at all that can be attributed to the tracker. There have been reports that the GT86 as standard has a limited battery life but I think that's down to the onboard alarm. Spec K

Nigel - will Mr. Smith throw in a set of Aircraft-Carrier specification ear muffs? You will most definitely need then with your S/C sequential gearbox.... did you see/listen to the Britcar/GPRM footage at Brands GP... ? I recommend you learn sign language between welding sessions. You will definitely need it.. ... or you could always fit an uprated auto box and get the same result.... Spec K

    MY 86 HAS BEEN FOUND!!!!

Ian - brilliant! I am really, really pleased for you. So -what now? Are you going to drive it home, get a tracker fitted and treat it as a lesson? Hmm..... may I recommend? Get that car into a Toyo dealer asap and have *everything* checked. That means suspension, brakes, steering, fluids changed, full valet... keep records of cost, 'cos when the police catch the little scrote who nicked it - which they will - you can demand damages. (You'll never get them unless he was a drunken millionaire but once you know his name you can hound him for decades if necessary. Keep him off the white powder..) Spec K

    If I get another GT86....

I trawled the market... Cobra seemed the best vfm for my needs. And I have 0% false alarms - that weren't self-inflicted.. Rob - I don't think it's £400 for the car device if you steer clear of your venal Toyo dealer - an accredited Cobra fitter (in Southend) fitted mine for £200, I think it was.. mind you that was 2 years ago.. I've got his contact details if anyone wants it...? (Hmmmm.... mebbe a 'group purchase'??) My annual renewal was £160 gross I think... that's without screwing your car insurer for a discount... Cobra can be contacted on 0844 239 0032 (that's admin, not 24hr security) Spec K

    If I get another GT86....

I know that some of you may think it a waste of money... but a vehicle 'tracker' is a must-have for me... I've got a Cobra unit in my car. I keep forgetting to tell them to put it into 'garage mode' when I take it up to Fensport/Toyo dealer for a bit of work - as soon as it's hoisted on their ramp I get a call asking if it's been knicked... very reassuring..
