Is this normal? Have others experienced this too?

You are joking! Every tramp in East London wears suede shoes.. we throw them out in September, they raid the bins or scavenge the landfill. Don't you throw out your suedes in the Autumn? Euuuck... perverse rural thinking... dog urine/faeces, puke on your shoes, water/methanol overfill.. how can you survive with such degradation..? Spec K -
How long do you plan to keep your 86/BRZ?

You had a 'classic mini' for 10 years? And they didn't commit you to a mental institution? This country's going to the dogs... Spec K -

Bloody sad day for me, Keith.... I offered them a ladder at the window, a five day break at Disney Paris and a grand spend... they declined, the ungrateful s*ds.... My advice to the future son-in-law? - if it flies, floats or f**cks, rent it... and Golf R's fly.... Spec K -

Rob - it's possible. I am a bit too ancient for this malarkey and the family concerns are causing greater distraction .... it's time I let some of the also-rans in with a chance, be interesting to see what a new owner could do in the car... and I've got a daughter's wedding to fund next year... ouch... Gregg - thanks for the head up on VW Macc. I am going personal lease. Two offers, 6 + 23 months at less than £280 per month, 3-door manual is less than £240... it's a steal for 4wd + 300bhp.. (I might even do the TSS in it... hahaha ) Spec K -

Gregg, Stan.... looks like we're on the same wavelength... need a daily drive.. Golf R 5-door auto... just waiting for a test drive, courtesy of a switched-on VW dealer (is there such a thing?)... .... dunno what to do with the GT86. Probably mothball it.. or I might put it on Pistonheads, see if anyone is keen to win the TSS f/i class next year in it.. or might continue with my development plans... Spec K -
To get the subject back on track - haha! - I am using both the baffled sump (extra capacity) and the Fensport oil cooler (extra capacity). The larger sump does not significantly reduce the oil temp (according to my Defi guage) as it is shielded from airflow by the undertray. I use Millers 0-30w Nanotech oil. I was worried about my oil temp on track (upwards of 125-130 degrees, temp taken in sump) but revised ducting to my cooler has made a significant difference and I now rarely see above 115. My cooler is mounted in front and to the right of the water/intercooler rads. I have declined to convert a fog light into a ducted airflow to the oil cooler, relying instead on a ducted intake behind the front grill. At 3000+rpm this results in a working oil pressure (Defi guage) of 3.5-4.2bar, taken at the filter. Drops to 1bar on tickover when hot. I have also installed a transmission oil cooler, as 'flash' temperatures in the auto box have reached 700 degrees C according to FT86 forum (gulp!). This has a separate radiator and electric pump mounted inside the rear bumper - I don't need it for road/Sprint but it is necessary for trackday use. Controlled by a switch on the dash and was part of the race upgraded auto box/torque converter I installed. Now that f/I is exceeding 300bhp - a 50% increase over standard - there can be little doubt that the standard cooling is approaching (or has gone beyond) its design limits. I would therefore recommend anyone looking to fit a turbo or screwpercharger to install an oil cooler kit. Spec K

The only car preferable to a GT86/BRZ, according to a will-respected aficionado who knows these things, is a GTR... Spec K

Lauren, does that not depend where you are in the power/torque curve? Is that not reliant on the revs/what gear you are using? Spec K -

Yes - I am told that both manual/auto in 'Euro' import run the 4.1 final drive and yes - it is merely gearbox ratios which are diferent. Mas - a 3.7 diff makes sense in certain ways. I have never (even at Spa) grabbed 6th for speed, merely for stability.. so a 3.7 could be perfect where one needs to use the five inter gears.. Silverstone might, possibly, be a circuit where 6th on a 4.1/ 4.67 would be usable.. not tried it, Ed (LFA) might be the guy who knows.. A high f/d can be as effective in five gears as a low f/d in six... I could have seriously used that at Croft, as could manuals, I suggest.. The compromise with a 3.7 is getaway off the line - but even the std car is smoking its tyres in first.. Is the way forward a seven-speed gearbox, I aks myself..? Any chance HKS can give us a 7-speed box/ duplex final drive? (Drool..) Spec K

Adam - looks a mean beast! Welcome! Gold with White.... why am I thinking seven dwarfs..? You may find 50mm lowering a bit excessive, depends on how your coilovers perform and how hard you like your ride.. (oooer, missus!). Be very inteesting to hear your feedback.. If you've got a custom exhaust manifold going on after second cat delete I would suggest you save yourself a bit of grief by considering an hfc in the midpipe - costs a few hundred quid and meets MOT emissions without loss of sound - and the thought police/tree huggers are gathering to make emissions a hanging offence within three years... Missed everyone at Gaydon. (What is a "Gay Don"? - all answers submitted on a £10 note get First Prize! A fiver..). Look forward to our Xmas bash for those who don't make Rockingham.. and there seems to be little socialising over the next few months, is it Ebola or have your Tesco shares cost the family fortune? Not even a blurry Grasshopper to look forward to.. hrrmph.. Spec K
