Wanted: A pair of standard GT86 wing side trims
Special K replied to ourphil's topic in Wanted GT86 / BRZ Cars and Parts
Faith can get all sorts of things off, and out of dark places, without damage... Sorry - Phil, in case you're confused - Faith is a qualified lady who delivers babies. ( She also shares hotel rooms with the weirdest GT86 drivers around, eats camels (hooves and all!), milks crocodiles and severely chastises those who think pink GT86 car lashes are not kewl..) Spec K -
Sarah - bung it up as a 'Meet' thread.... Spec K

Wanted: A pair of standard GT86 wing side trims
Special K replied to ourphil's topic in Wanted GT86 / BRZ Cars and Parts
Phil, I am about to take my (blue) ones off to replace with the BRZ ones - you're not far from me /Faith, who is the whizz at getting these off. Fancy a meetup and she can whip 'em off.... err, so to speak.... Spec K -
We ought to have some Forum embroidered badges for track gear / road bling, I reckon... perhaps a chat with Tony Fensport's missus..? I'll have a grey hoody please Rob - another first, I've never bought one of these ever. like trainers - are they smallish? if so I'll need a large.. Spec K

Yay! Sarah - I can make either Saturday.... would prefer 9th but am easy. 2nd is day after hospital op. so it will need extra red wine^w sustenance for me to recover my strength... Spec k

Is this not a sign of the times we live in? All the 'classic' cars mentioned are 'muscle'. These days we're into cotton-wooled eco hybrid gooners... .... little boxes (made of ticky-tacky) with no character, charisma or charm. And they all look just the same... Spec K

Steve - if you get yourself a 'passenger ticket' you can come on track tomorrow in mine... mind you I've got a lot of retuning to do, following their re-valve at Tein UK.... Spec K

This weekend will be my first 'noise test' at Blyton with the new AVO 3" system... I have to say I am quite taken with the sound, even though it has the 'big box' rear rather than the separate silencers I had on the H&S. There is definitely a scoobie 'burble' there at low revs.. then, when I really give it some beans it's awesome... local guinea pigs spontaneously abort and old ladies imitate Lynford Christie.... Keethos' GT86 Journey Back To Health + Mods
Special K replied to Keethos's topic in Projects & Builds
That's a real tale of woe, being whacked by an uninsured driver.... the lady sounds very, very lucky to get away with it, given the airbags went off.. Keethos, can you not ask her who the insurers are? And contact them direct? Spec K -
Steve, Sounds like map 3 needs 'tweaking'... there is no reason for pinking on a trailing throttle... ... unless you've been going for crap fuel, of course.... Don't wanna sell your CS Celica, do you..? Spec K

Good track pics, Will... you can make out Faith's "..white knuckles.." Spec K -
How about a 'tint' day combined with a 'simulator' day? They're both in the same area, aren't they? Spec K

Lauren - I would certainly think of uprating springs for (relatively) heavy wheels but I'm not sure I'd stiffen up dampers as well.. I would hedge my bets and go adjustable dampers, even if the car was solely for road use.. If I recall correctly you have downrated your front springs - is this because your Rays are relatively light? Spec K

Teg - 32 or 30 hot is fine... 32 cold will give you 35-36psi, which is Primacy pressure. Unless you are filling your tyres with nitrogen (Costco) you need to set them cold 3-4psi under what temp. you want to drive them at. Spec K

Forge - I am based in East London. I can get all four wheels into my car - just - but it leaves no room for jack/tools/etc. and my knees are up by my ears. Spec K

Interesting.... might join you.. Are either of you going up on Sunday and hotelling overnight? Spec K

I liked F1's, (made in Germany, the others are cr*p) both on road and track... 17" rims. They are sensitive to pressure, I found. My optimum was 28psi cold, 30-32psi hot.. I still have them on Rota Blitz 8" rims (for sale) as I am now using Team Dynamics 9" rims with Michelin Sport 3's for road and track. Agree with Lauren - if you want to use grippier tyres on road and track you need to think about upgrading your suspension. (Forge - I have a set of Rota Titans 17" x 9" with ADO8's (not R's) fitted if you want to try 'em. Biggest problem is transporting them...) Spec K

Had that been the only choice I would not have bought a GT86. I am really looking forward to giving the new 'box a workout next Saturday... be interested to get others opinions, as well.. I consciously went for the full-out Stage 2 version and the upchange is particularly fierce (as warned) when transmission fluid is cold.. it still lags on change between 4th/5th/6th but this is a emu programming issue which I don't think can be resolved until someone breaks the Toyo code.. they've been talking about this on the FT86 Forum.. With the modified transoil sump, transoil cooler and auxiliary pump the system now takes 6litres of fluid against the 4litres of the stock auto... the extra fluid is 'static' within the system until you flick the switch (only necessary on sustained trackday-type effort) and the heat dissipation by the fan-assisted cooler is awesome.. may consider using a thermo-sensor-couple-thingey for this to get rid of the dashboard switch, we'll see.. ... and the AVO 3" exhaust sound is, err, interesting... totally right foot dependant, can lull a baby to sleep or give it the screaming abjabs... The valve mods to the Tein rear dampers (and the 'matching' jig setup for the fronts) have changed the ride characteristics by a substantial margin. It is now comparably stiff, so I need to do a lot of rework on settings - probably start with Pitman's road setup and get both Adrian's and Mark's feedback at Millbrook end of the month. All good fun.... Spec K

I agree it allows you to play with the chassis, Lauren.... but why? Why would anyone want to play with the chassis when the limiting factor is the tyres? And one's personal skill (or lack of it), of course.. And learning the balance of the car on std. tyres is no yardstick to how it will handle/perform on different tyres.. it's comparing Mr. Whippy with Carte D'or.. And I don't agree that anyone can stick a turbo on and go faster in a straight line. Not without a 100% effective gearbox they can't... Spec K

Good for you! Pad/line upgrade is a good starter - I would suggest fluid upgrade at the same time.. oh, and look at a 'maser cylinder brace'.... makes a big difference, if braking is your forte... Standard tyres are, imho, the pits, despite protestations by the purists such a Lauren. Admittedly the car has been engineered - beautifully - around the Primacys and it is a joy to drive... for the numptys... ... but then we mature - up from silly tail-hanging around roundabouts at 30mph/ drifting to impress the 90-year-old flatulent female Fiat 500 driver behind - and strive to achieve what Todosan required in the first place - develop the car to our own character. You will review all sorts of silly nonsense on this - and in every - Forum. (Such as 'nitro'.... McEnroe comment..'you can not be serious!' ). Difference here, so far, is that no-one is trying to score points. And you'll get genuine feedback on what's good/bad. Except for polishes, afterwax, snowfoam, bling... --------> (... follow the arrow if that is your bag.. ) YMMV.. Spec K
